Given its ten minute pay-to-pitch…
Given its ten minute pay-to-pitch structure @ $35 a pop, I'd say it's a waste of time and money. Ten minutes is simply inadequate; you can't possibly hit more than the highlights of your project - only to be criticized by the exec/agent/manager for not providing enough details. It's frustrating and annoying and that's just for starters. For example, I've gotten great coverage (unpaid) on most, if not all, of projects yet the pitch feedback often cites a failure to not mention X or Y in that extremely abbreviated time frame. On top of that, a given individual often imagines what was pitched, rather than actually listening and/or taking decent notes. And I believe a lot of the people being pitched are out of work themselves, trying to make ends meet. I'm left thinking 'who's more desperate - the writers or the execs/agents/managers who participate?'
