At this point it feels like Spot would rather push families toward putting their pets down than help them afford treatment! Our pet insurance premium jumped from $270 to $450/month and when I called for help a supervisor said it could go to $560. More than double. After years of paying for coverage this is how loyal customers with aging pets are treated? Outrageous. Spot please explain how you justify this!

If I could give negative stars I would
If I could give negative stars I would. I’m not one to give reviews but with this fradulant insurance I will. They are terrible with communication as well as being understating. I called to cancel my pets insurance due to them not covering anything at all meanwhile i’m paying 65 dollars a month! The lady on the phone made me feel like a terrible person and asked 3 times if i’m sure I wanted to do this to my dog. Also used my dogs very sad diagnosis against me to keep this insurance ( they don’t even cover her diagnosis). Very upset, wasted money

They don't check emails or call for records.
I am requesting urgent reconsideration of Baloo’s $734.27 claim #8726744 for his September 15, 2026 emergency visit to VEG San Ramon. The claim was denied under code 20 because Spot reportedly could not obtain his medical records.
This appears to be a processing error. I forwarded VEG’s complete clinical record and itemized invoice to records @customer.spotpet.com on October 4 and sent both again that same day in response to Spot’s request. Spot Customer Service confirmed on October 7 that the information had been forwarded to its claims department. The payment receipt and itemized invoice were also submitted in September.
NO ONE FROM EITHER THE VET OE THE INSURANCE CALLED ME TO COMPLETE OR HELP FACILITATE THIS CLAIM.
IT WAS DENIED FIE LACK OF PAPERWORK 👀
.....
Please address the following promptly:
Spot: Confirm that the October 4 clinical records and itemized invoice were received and indexed to claim #8726744, and explain why the claim was denied for missing records.
Spot: Reopen and reprocess the claim without requiring a new submission, and provide a timeline for a revised determination.
VEG: Confirm whether you received a records request from Spot and resend the complete clinical record directly to both Spot addresses, copying us, if needed.
It is frustrating to receive a denial for documents we already provided multiple times. Please coordinate directly and confirm receipt and next steps within two business days.

We're sorry hear that you had a frustrating experience, and this is not the experience we aim to provide. Our team does reach out directly to veterinary clinics to request medical records, and we follow up multiple times to help ensure we get what’s needed. Unfortunately, if we don’t receive a response after repeated attempts, we may reach out to the pet parent as an additional option to help move the claim forward and avoid further delays in processing. We understand your frustration and if there’s anything we can do to make things right, our team is here to help at 1-800-905-1595 (M–F 8am–8pm, Sat 9am–5pm EST)

Don't make the mistake of hiring Spot…
Don't make the mistake of hiring Spot Pet Insurance. I have been religiously paying my monthly insurance fee for more than a year, trusting that they would support my pet's health when necessary. The reality is totally different: they are a complete scam.
I have submitted two formal claims, attaching absolutely all required documentation, including detailed receipts and records provided directly by the veterinary clinic. However, they find any excuse to deny the refund.
The worst of all is the lack of transparency and administrative hygiene. Instead of giving a detailed and reasonable explanation of why it doesn't cover the event, they just send automatic responses simply saying "claim denied under code X, you don't qualify," leaving you blindly for no clear reason.
My last claim was for a veterinary bill of $1,800, and again they denied it completely despite sending exactly what they asked me for. The only thing they serve is to charge month by month; when the time comes to fulfill their part of the contract, they turn their backs on you.
Save your money and look for a serious company. Spot Pet Insurance only seeks to keep your money without offering any real support to your pet.

....and it gets worse
....and it gets worse. Not only did you never contact me to tell me you were sending a check, but you sent almost $4500 to a bank account number that has been closed for 4 years. I talked to your "help staff" and asked for a supervisor..."no one was available to talk to me" and no one called back when I left my phone number. So now what? You sent the money to a closed account and no one is available to send me a corrected check.
Everyone, save your premium money....this isn't a company you want to do business with!

Denied my claim as "permanently pre-existing," save your money
I paid Spot $63.62 every month for my dog Benito (Whoodle) on their $10,000/80%/$250 plan with Gold Wellness. When I actually needed to use the insurance for a skin and growth condition, they denied the claim, calling it pre-existing. I appealed, and on October 6th they denied the appeal too, classifying the condition as permanently pre-existing. No path forward, no option to revisit, just a flat denial after months of collecting my premiums.
I escalated by email the same day. Nothing came of it.
The whole point of pet insurance is peace of mind that your pet will be covered when something comes up. Spot was happy to take my money every month, but when it came time to actually pay out, they found a reason not to. Labeling a condition "permanently pre-existing" means they will never cover it, no matter how long you stay enrolled.
I cancelled and switched to Embrace, which costs less ($55.71/mo) and has a policy that reclassifies pre-existing conditions after 12 months symptom free. That is how a reasonable insurance company operates.
If you are shopping for pet insurance, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. Spot will collect your premiums reliably. Paying claims is another story.
Response from Spot Pet InsuranceOct 15, 2026
Hi there, we understand the frustration when claims are denied. We do our best to be transparent regarding our Pre- existing conditions policy. Much like other providers, our plans don’t cover conditions showing signs before your coverage starts, as documented by your vet. For further assistance, please call our team at 1-800-905-1595 (M-F 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm EST).

Terrible coverage if you have a rescue…
Terrible coverage if you have a rescue animal! Spot covers absolutely nothing. Apparently everything is considered pre-existing even though you have no history on the animal! I do not recommend!! As you can see from their response, it says it all. An ear infection that wasn't pre existing was denied. Vaccines were denied and some tiny payout on 2 of them. When the cost of the vaccine was different. Just do your research before signing up with them if you don't have a puppy. These guys deny everything.

Hi Shireen, We're sorry hear that you had a frustrating experience, and this is not the experience we aim to provide. We do our best to be transparent regarding our need for medical records. All claim decisions are based on your pet’s medical records and the signs/symptoms that are noted in those records. Much like other providers, our plans don’t cover conditions showing signs before your coverage starts, as documented by your vet. If you need further assistance, please give our customer service team a call at 1-800-905-1595 (M-F 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm EST).
