I do not recommend this company. Their prices go up a lot after the first year. They would not reimburse me for my cat's annual physical even though I pay the wellness premium. The wellness portion of the insurance isn't worth it. After paying the monthly premium every month for it, you might as well pay the vet for the visit. I canceled the insurance on both of my cats.

So far not even close to worth the cost. We had an incident with her eating a bunch of chocolate, and had emergency vet services that total almost $400. We got reimbursed for only $70. I thought emergencies was what this insurance was for. May be cancelling.

I got a completely unnacceptable…
I got a completely unnacceptable response from Spot Pet insurance that the reason for a 50% increase in my insurance cost has to do with the rising cost of medical care. That may make sense on the surface, but on deeper thought it is an absolute lie.
My plan is for 80% coverage after a $500 deductible and only covers $5,000 in care. Whether costs rise or not is immaterial. My plan did not change. I still have a $5000 cap, which means I have to spend $50 monthly (up from $36) $500 in deductibles and $6,250 to get a $5,000 reimbursement direct to my account. Not paid to my provider.
So nothing has changed, except I am now on the hook for $180 more in Premiums. Beware. And if you’re on it, just hop off after one year.

Hi Chance, thanks for giving us this feedback, and we hear your concerns. Premiums are based on the age of your pet, breed, plan, and location. We’d like the chance to clarify anything you may be frustrated about and encourage you to call our team at 1-800-905-1595 (M-F 8am-8pm, Sat 9am-5pm EST).

DO NOT WORK WITH SPOT PET INSURANCE
I signed up for Spot earlier this year as my dog was getting older, looking for coverage of anything that might happen in her elder years. The process to submit claims was easy, however everything after that was not.
I submitted a claim after my dog went to the ER. No response from Spot or action on the claim for 3 weeks. Finally, after the 3 weeks, they responded and this hit my deductable.
Fast forward a week, and my dog had a growth on her face that burst and a small tumor appeared. I submitted the claim for the doctors pre-surgery visit and was denied as a "preventative", not an accident or illness.
Then the surgery. She required emergency surgery to remove the tumor. 2 weeks after submitting the claim, I was notified of a denial based on a preexisting condition that didn't exist before.
Despite clearly outlining the timeline and providing notes from the Doctor, they still deny the claim.
What is the point of pet insurance if they are going to try to deny every claim you submit? DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

Quick to take your money for premiums
Quick to take your money for premiums, but slow claims processing. Submitted claim August 4th and additional info requested, so I submitted it on August 17th and no updates on the app or online platform. It still reflects “additional information needed”. I totally regret switching to Spot for my pets insurance needs!

**ONE STAR: YEARS OF PREMIUMS, ALMOST NO CLAIMS, AND SPOT WILL NOT COVER EMMA’S HOSPITAL STAY**
My experience with Spot Pet Insurance has been absolutely unacceptable.
We have been insured with Spot for years. During that time, we faithfully paid our premiums and barely, if ever, needed to use the insurance. I believed I was paying for protection in case Emma ever experienced a serious medical emergency.
That emergency finally happened.
Emma became critically ill and required emergency treatment, hospitalization, and intensive care. Her latest hospital stay is exactly the type of devastating situation I believed her insurance was supposed to help cover. Instead, Spot is refusing to cover the expenses as expected.
Even more disturbing, the plan I understood to have **unlimited annual coverage** is now being treated as though it has a **$2,500 annual maximum**. I have not received a clear explanation of how an unlimited policy became capped at $2,500, when this alleged change occurred, how I was notified, or whether Spot has any proof that I knowingly selected or agreed to this reduction in coverage.
How does a policy go from unlimited coverage to a $2,500 limit exactly when the insured pet becomes critically ill and the coverage is finally needed?
Every time I call Spot, I am passed around, given vague responses, or left with even more questions. No one seems willing or able to provide a direct, consistent explanation about why Emma’s latest hospital stay is not being covered or what happened to the coverage we believed we had.
There have also been significant communication barriers during these calls. Several representatives have struggled to clearly understand my questions or explain the complicated details of Emma’s policy in understandable English. This is not a minor customer-service matter. We are discussing disputed insurance coverage, policy changes, and thousands of dollars in critical veterinary care. Spot has a responsibility to provide representatives who can communicate clearly, accurately, and confidently about the policies customers are paying for.
Instead, I repeatedly end calls more confused than when they began.
After years of collecting our premiums and almost never having to pay significant claims for Emma, Spot is now refusing to provide the coverage when she needs it most. They were perfectly willing to accept our payments while Emma was healthy, but now that she is fighting for her life, the protection I believed she had appears to have vanished behind a $2,500 limit that no one can properly explain.
I should be focused on Emma’s recovery. I should not have to spend hours repeatedly calling an insurance company, being transferred from person to person, and begging for basic answers about a policy we have paid for over several years.
Pet owners purchase insurance and pay premiums year after year because they expect the company to be there during the worst moments of their animals’ lives. Insurance is supposed to provide peace of mind during an emergency. Spot has done the exact opposite.
This experience has caused confusion, additional financial hardship, countless unanswered questions, and enormous stress during an already devastating medical crisis.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Spot Pet Insurance. I strongly caution every pet owner to download every policy document, take screenshots of their coverage, save every email, document every phone call, and regularly verify that the coverage they are paying for has not somehow become a completely different plan.
Years of premiums should not result in mysteriously reduced coverage, representatives who cannot provide understandable answers, and a refusal to cover a hospital stay when a beloved pet is fighting for her life.
Until Spot provides real answers and conducts a fair review of Emma’s claims, I will continue sharing my honest experience so other pet owners can make an informed decision before trusting this company with their animals’ medical care.

Almost gave them 2 stars
Almost gave them 2 stars, but after my experience today, I couldn't.
We've been insuring our dog for years, and our premium has continued to slowly increase. We switched to SPOT a little over a year ago, and this time, it more than DOUBLED. Seriously?
We received no notice at our current address and only discovered the increase when we saw the charge on our credit card. When we called, we learned they still had our old address on file. The reason? Their website would not recognize our postal/ZIP code when we tried to update it. That's a problem with their system—not something we should be penalized for.
They also claim they sent us an email, but we have no record of receiving one.
To make matters worse, the customer service representative was rude and refused to let us speak with anyone else—a manager, supervisor, or anyone who could review the situation. His response was essentially that "nothing will change the situation."
So apparently, there is no escalation process and no one available to review a customer's concerns?
After being a customer for a year, this is extremely disappointing. We will be following up with a complaint to the appropriate Department of Insurance regarding the premium increase, notification, address-update issue, and how this matter was handled.
Had to edit to clarify some details. They also said my review was questionable and I had to verify who I was or the review would be deleted. This is probably how they get a lot of bad reviews taken down, because no one wants to put in their info.
