I greatly benefited from this…presentation on Autism Intervention.
I greatly benefited from this presenter’s discussion on Autism Intervention. Kelly Vess (MA, CCC, - SLP), described an Evideced-Based/Eclectic Approach to find the best Speech-Language strategies that best help children with autism. The greatest asset was to begin intervention for AU children between 18-24 mos. due to neuroplasity of brain. Building rapport with, ‘What is the child motivated by/Special interests. What is their favorite activities, books, toys, or songs, etc. And then, further explanation of augmentative core boards (Ex:’Lamp for Light’) with 84-icons. Starting with high-tech, pointing as SLP says the words on Sentence Strips. Presenter, stated that SLP should always add printed word to symbols/pictures. Keep symbols in same place so that child can do, motor-planning. Utilize a variety of pragmatic skills to give the child opportunities to comment, request or share information and to complete prompts. This was a powerful flow of information which provided a sequenced, comprehensive outline on Autism Intervention.

I registered and took a live online class. When I logged into SpeechPathology.com it said my membership had expired and none of my courses were listed, the exam wasn't listed, and my transcript was empty. I had taken 4 courses the day before and they were not listed. Thankfully, I downloaded the course certificates the day I took the courses. But I wasted 1.5 hours of my day and have nothing to show for it. Do better SpeechPathology. com!
