Complaint Letter Submitted to Sondermind Superviser at Sondermind Subject: Complaint Regarding Breach of Confidentiality and Unprofessional Conduct To whom it may concern, I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to bring a serious matter to your attention concerning the conduct of one of your therapists. I am a patient at Sondermind Therapy and recently received my first therapy session. In the course of our first session, I briefly explained to the therapist I had been a childhood victim of abuse by the hand of a family member some 40+ years ago. For the sake of explanation, this person has not been a part of my life for over 35 years, and neither have I seen or spoken with them in all these years. I know nothing about this person’s life, or even if they’re dead or alive. In fact, I only learned of this abuse 10 years ago when I began to have memories and flashbacks and then confided in my sister who shared she had the same experience. I have confided in many therapists over the years, and all of them have assured me there was absolutely no reason to report these past events unless I knew a child was in imminent danger or if I was still in imminent danger, which I am not. I am deeply disturbed by the recent actions of the therapist and her complete ignorance of reporting and confidentiality laws for her profession, and am now taking necessary action to seek your intervention. On Wednesday, July 27, 2023, during one my therapy session with the therapist, she breached my confidentiality by reporting sexual abuse that occurred 40 years ago to the police without seeking my consent or permission. As a result of her actions, the police showed up at my home, causing immense stress and re-traumatization for me and my children (who previously had no knowledge of my past trauma), who were present at the time, and who were startled and distressed by the sudden and unexpected visit from the authorities. The breach of confidentiality by the therapist has left me feeling violated, betrayed, and unable to trust the therapeutic process. Her actions have not only negatively impacted my mental well-being, (I cannot sleep, eat, am again having flashbacks and nightmares, and am deeply depressed) but also disrupted the sense of security and privacy within my family. **RESULT: Sondermind has done absolutely nothing to rectify the situation, despite numerous requests for a refund for the session (it’s the least I can hope for)…instead they denied my meager request, stating my session was ‘medically necessary’ Some of the therapists are very good, but I will never give another penny to this company. They are grossly negligent, irresponsible, dishonest, and do not care for their clients in the least. Stay away from Sondermind!!!

They’re billing wasnt straight forward and I got charged months and months later after sessions I had already paid for. Getting in touch with them is very difficult. They made anxiety more worse.

SonderMind definitely appears to be a scam ... there are numerous computer generated e-mails in the beginning that seem to go in circles ... then ... they say you are matched with a therapist ... then the information about the supposed therapist is super vague ... then when you try to get additional information ... you are presented with the demand for "all of your information plus insurance information ... plus payment in advance ... before you are even provided sufficient information about the therapist ... then ... you are informed that the "mystery therapist" "only communicates online" ... woooooo ... Scam City

Despite telling me the therapist was Medicare Certified and sessions would cost 25 dollars each the claims have been denied because Sondermind is billing in the therapist name and they are not Medicare Certified. SM told my therapist I needed to call my insurance and have them bill correctly-except that is not how insurance bills work-the provider bills the insurance, and they are-with the therapist's name and the NPI. There is no way to talk to billing-you call, you get a Care Coordinator, who can not answer billing questions so they transfer you which routes you back to the queue for a CAre Coordinator. Emails go unanswered. In this stressful time I'm on the hook for over 1200 dollars in therapy bills. Also issues with the video, during sessions you have to reconnect at least three times in an hour.

Sondermind customer service is so frustrating! They're supposed to help relieve stress and do the complete opposite. I'm still waiting for my last refund of 120 because they messed up not charging me the amount from the insurance. I've probably been on the phone with them like 6 times!!!

My therapist was over 45 minutes late for a session telling me she was busy with another client (we had an appointment?) then the next one she was over 10 minutes late so I decided to not go forward with her and left the call after waiting. I spoke to customer service about being charged a no show fee and was told that because I left within 15 minutes that there was nothing they could do because they have a 15 minute grace policy. I asked where this policy was stated about a 15 minute grace period because I tried looking for it and even customer support said it’s not outlined but it’s their policy so she wouldn’t budge. Also it is very difficult trying to get ahold of customer support. I went in thinking this service would be cheaper than in person and quickly realized I was paying about the same for an unprofessional therapist and terrible customer support. Avoid at all costs - not worth the time or money in my opinion.

I have been using this company for a year. My therapist is wonderful but the company itself is ridiculous. Their billing is very inconsistent. They have gone months not billing and then bill for 2 months at once and give you 3-5 days to pay it. Also, doesn't matter if you already have a scheduled appointment, they will send an email to your therapist to not do the session. Even if you pay before the due date, they won't allow sessions for 3 days after the payment. Doesn't seem to matter really about someone's mental health more about the money for the company (SONDERMIND). I will be quitting my therapy service with this company and looking for another one, which sucks because my therapist is great. Sondermind just adds extra stress to my already not-healthy mental state. It doesn't matter how many times you reach out to them it still is just the same garbage each time. DO BETTER!

Finally ready to start therapy. First appointment was ok, she was late but I thought we connected. Scheduled 8 follow up appointments and was promptly ghosted. She never showed up, never contacted me. Now I have to pay for the initial session for nothing. Worse than a scam. You’re messing with peoples mental health!
