outstand bills are 14 minths old
I have bills from an accident in October 2023, it's now December 2024 and all the help desk can tell me is "it's in process, will be in a future batch". Solidarity is TERRIBLE at paying these bills on time.

Too much money, can’t afford it

Solidarity was an alternative that we thought would make a difference . However my wife has had many issues on the phone for hours trying to find out when our bills from July ,August and September of 2022 would be paid, in VAIN! They are always processing however never getting our claims paid which are ALWAYS accumulating interest on our credit card. It is shameful because they advertise very well yet don't follow through with their end of the contract, like a good Christian should . Planning on getting a lawyer to enforce this process, it is sad it has to come to this. Mark Mangam.

We have been with Solidarity for 5 years. It started out great. But for the last 3 years, the reimbursement and processing has slowed down considerably. I am not provided straight answers as it seems no one ever knows when items will be reimbursed once items are processed. The monthly charge is now way too much to deal with the admin issues. While they promote themselves as having providers that work with them and bill directly, I have yet to deal with a company that is willing to bill Solidarity directly.

After using Solidarity for about two years for a family member, that member changed to a job that included insurance. We left the plan, but made sure to do so once the next insurance was signed up for so that we wouldn't have a gap in coverage. We cancelled Solidarity before the next charge was posted, but were charged for that next month anyway. We were told that we did not give enough notice, but the cancellation policy stated that members can cancel at any time (they prefer but can't require substantial notice). This is appropriate since it is a cost sharing service, not insurance -- it is voluntary, and you aren't contractually obligated to continue contributing, you legally can stop donating (because it's officially a donation, not a payment) any time you wish. As with any other nonprofit, they can't take money from you just because they have your credit card number and you "donated" last month. I was already having some misgivings about Solidarity as this is a Catholic sharing service, and the policy became more and more narrow in what the admin believed that meant, setting up policies that were connected more in some ways with what secularists would consider bad behavior rather than anything from the Catechism. They have every right to do that, it's their organization, but it's never really been a "Catholic" thing to say you have to "live a healthy lifestyle" -- in fact, you could argue most Catholic saints did not. Catholic ethics would certainly mean the share plan wouldn't pay for contraceptives used for contraception, but noting you can't "abuse" food seems like an excuse to keep fat people out of the pool. Most disappointing, though, is the seeming dishonesty in communications following our cancellation. Solidarity emailed me a copy of the very short cancellation policy, but left out the part about sharing being voluntary. A rep called me not to resolve the issue but to misrepresent that policy again and then, when it became clear i knew the actual language made the charge illegal, to attempt to guilt me into dropping my request for the charge to be refunded. They refused to remove the illegal charge (the card company adjudicated in our favor and removed it). It's not a Catholic value to hide the truth in disputes. To be clear, we used Solidarity in order to be responsible and be able to pay bills if we needed to; even though we are a low income family, as Catholics it is important to us to try to do the right thing and we hoped Solidarity would be a good fit in helping us do tht. Our young and healthy family member never, thankfully, needed to use Solidarity in the two years we paid into the pool. We paid the company $4000 in total, and the billing tells us that of that about $1800 went to admin costs and about $2200 to pay the medical bills of other members. So the company itself got plenty from us for its overhead, and it's frustrating they felt the need to steal $90 from us after we'd cancelled our account and then dissemble and obfuscate when we requested they return it. Hopefully this was just a blip and the organization has improved (date approx.)

Lisa, our system shows that the cancellation form was sent twice and was not received back in time according to the member guidelines. Solidarity is voluntary; however, members must agree to the guidelines to join. Page 10, section C shows what you agreed to when it comes to canceling your membership.

After going through all the enrollment process, I found out that the organization would not pay for anything related to a connective tissue condition that I have that could potentially cause about anything. A high percentage of the population has the same thing, but they or their doctors are just not as diligent to look for all conditions. And generally there is no need because it might not ever cause and problems and even if it did there would be no way of proving it. So that means that even though I don't have any more chance of having problems than most or many others in the population, I will still be excluded. Luckily for me, knowing that I may have this condition means I know what to do to prevent many future problems, so I feel I am going to be better off than most and at age 55, this proves to be true. So, I signed up with CHM instead.

The Ministry is constrained by finite resources—no matter how many Members we may have. Applicants who present active, pre-existing medical Needs as such immediate expenses may strain our giving beyond current capacity. We always suggest reading through the Guidelines before applying so you know what to expect from membership. We are pleased to hear that you have found an option that fits your needs.
