Paid for the software back in 2016 but they now decided not to update the version anymore for people who have bought the software only if you subscribe! How ridiculous to not offer or find a way to just update the original software and not make old customers have to subscribe to still use it when they bought the software for life. I don't see how these companies think it's sustainable for freelancers to be able to pay for every software and thing they use on a monthly basis and still have money left to pay the bills. Wasn't happy with customer service as they did not have a solution for this and definitely won't be subscribing for the price that they are asking.
Response from SmartalbumsSep 5, 2023
Hello Raluca! The software purchase from 2016 would be for SmartAlbums 2, which was released in 2015 and has been officially retired since late 2019. This software version is much older and was built with outdated coding frameworks that are no longer up-to-date with modern standards. Due to this reason, we could no longer support SmartAlbums 2 because we needed to create a completely new application to include modern tools to help create a better SmartAlbums experience for our community. Making SmartAlbums an annual subscription helped us grow SmartAlbums and allowed us to build more tools to better the album creation workflow. We’re very happy with the support we’ve received from our community to help us accomplish that as well. We’ve offered various discounts over the past few years reserved only for SmartAlbums 2 customers to help transfer everyone to the newest version of SmartAlbums so they can access all of the latest tools we’ve created at a discounted rate. Although, this upgrade is optional and not required as SmartAlbums 2 purchases are still valid and will remain accessible forever. However, since SmartAlbums 2 is no longer supported by our engineers, we can not promise that this version of the software will continue to function optimally with newer machines or operating system versions. We hope this helps clarify! If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact us via email at [email protected], we're always happy to help!
