The representative working with Texas Tactical Guns and range, Jonathan Wen, was very professional and efficient in answering all of our questions and concerns. We were able to seamlessly place an order and pay via online invoice. The overall experience was fast, efficient and convenient. Hopefully the shipping will be just as quick!

First night on patrol
First time using the Aurora Black. I am a Deputy that patrols mostly rural areas but there is also plenty of cities and villages in my areas. So there is places with no ambiance light and places with normal urban light from street lamps, houses, and traffic. Conveniently the first night with it, we had a situation where a guy ran away from a scene and we had to canvas the area for him. First I used the optic in a dark woods with little ambiance, no moon and few stars. It was hard to see without white light (my illuminator hasn't arrived yet). My solution was to stand a distance from my peers while they used white light and I took advantage of their light castings. Where it really shined for this call, was my ability to coast my squad, stop, and scan all of the area yards without using spot lights or take downs. The color setting works very well on residential areas. I am looking forward to getting the illuminator kit so I can use this in zero ambient settings (which are very likely were im at). This thing works very well for LE. App has more potential, I would like to see that developed to also cast the audio to your phone when using the connect feature.

A proven piece of equipment
I got the first generation of Aurora cameras through their Kickstarter campaign in the summer of 2018, so I was among the early adopters.
The camera is on a custom mount, atop a Ruger 10/22T rifle, positioned on a Picatinny rail behind a Monstrum Tactical 2-7x scope.
The scope has an adjustable objective lens which is essential when using the 940 nm compact illuminator, which is mounted on the left side of the rifle's foreend for use in total darkness.
The longer wavelength light source makes it necessary to have a scope with an adjustable objective since the focal point for visible light and 940 nm infrared are different. What looks sharp in visible light will be out of focus at 940 nm.
Prior to this I was using an electronic scope that turned out to be unreliable, had short battery life, and had a delay in the image, plus a slow frame rate of around 15 to 20 fps, that made it difficult to get a precise shot on targets that tend to shift around.
There's no perceptible delay with the Aurora, and there's a frame rate of 60 fps. So moving targets aren't a problem.
This combination of the Monstrum scope and SiOnyx Aurora has proven to be an excellent optical match. The image of the scope needs just one click of the camera's digital zoom to fill the frame, which means the image remains sharp.
Battery life is more than an hour, which isn't particularly long. But the Aurora "boots up" in two seconds. So it's turned on only when needed. Spare batteries are inexpensive.
Operationally the Aurora has turned out to be effective and reliable, allowing me to see and remove invasive quite a few feral hogs that were destroying portions of a local farm and damaging private property.
