Designs were awful. communication was even worse

Purchased "3d Design Package - Back Yard" ($237) then upsold "30 Day Design Revisions" ($87) and "2D Satellite Design" ($77). During initial design consultation, I was informed I would need to ugprade to their "VIP 3D Design Package" due to the size of my back yard. Not only was this not clearly disclosed before purchase, but I was only asking for a small portion of the yard to be designed! It became clear to me that ShrubHub was just looking for opportunities to upsell, so I asked for a full refund since I was within the 30 day window for that. They said someone would have to call me back and I've been getting the run around today via email and chat trying to get a manager approval for what should be a simple task. Check the number of complaints at the Better Business Bureau -- do yourself a favor and steer clear of ShrubHub! I came to find out that ShrubHub is just "a communications platform for enabling connections between Users and Designers". In other words, they are just outsourcing your project! Quote: "ShrubHub does not have control over the quality, timing, legality, failure to provide, or any other aspect whatsoever of any work provided by Designers, nor of the integrity, responsibility or any of the actions or omissions..."

I would rate it lower if I could. This service is horrible. I paid for a design and unlimited 30 day revisions. I had my design call, when I goy my design back a week later it was clear the designer did not listen to anything I said. I have been trying since then to reach my design consultant Dave, who responded to my email saying I had to use the portal to set up a new call. There is no place on the portal to do so. I finally found a customer service number and spoke to someone. That individual informed me that in order to speak to someone I needed to purchase another upgrade package. So how do I communicate my revision requests I asked. You need to use the chat feature. I tried that, it is unmanned. So I was told to leave a chat and Dave will get back to me. I asked when, I was told be assured he will respond. What if I am not on line when he chooses to respond, I inquired, well if you leave the chat for an extended period of time we will terminate the chat. This is absurd. I told the person on the phone to refund my money, again tell Dave that on the chat....So I am in a doom loop. I am going to charge back my credit card and start writing more reviews. I do not buy their glorious reviews and when i dug deeper I found many poor reviews. They seem to be a good reputation management firm, but customer service is absent. This is a case of technology being used in place of service. It doesn't work.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with ShrubHub and feel compelled to share my story to help others avoid the same frustration. I initially purchased their landscape design services, spending a total of $1,458. Unfortunately, what I received was far from what was promised and utterly unusable. ### Ignored Instructions From the beginning, I was clear about my requirements. I wanted a pergola placed in the center of the yard with a concrete pad underneath to accommodate a hot tub. I also specified that no excavation could take place due to the proximity of my house to neighboring properties—there simply wasn't room for machinery to pass through either side. Despite my explicit instructions, the design completely ignored these constraints. Even worse, the satellite imagery they used was outdated and inaccurate, failing to show the close proximity of neighboring houses, which is a crucial detail. ### Incomplete and Useless Plans The plans provided were a mess. They lacked basic, essential details like measurements, wiring diagrams for light fixtures, and a proper irrigation plan that included the types of sprinkler heads. The 3D renderings didn't account for the fact that no excavation could take place and failed to consider existing structures like the air conditioning condenser unit on the back of the house, which cannot be moved. These glaring omissions mean that the plans are not just flawed—they are entirely unusable. No contractor could implement them, making the entire package a waste of money. ### Unfair Refund Policy I reached out to ShrubHub within their 30-day refund policy, fully complying with their terms and conditions. Despite this, my request for a refund was unjustly refused. I asked for an RMA (Return Authorization) number, as required by their policy, but was denied without valid reasoning. Their refusal to honor their own money-back guarantee is not just frustrating—it’s unethical. ### Conclusion In summary, I received absolutely no value from ShrubHub’s services. The designs were incomplete, ignored key constraints, and failed to meet even the most basic standards of usability. The company’s refusal to issue a refund, despite my compliance with their terms, has left me feeling cheated. I urge anyone considering their services to think twice. Based on my experience, ShrubHub is not a company that stands behind its work or its promises. I would not recommend them to anyone and will be taking further steps to recover my funds.

I left a review, but of course it was not published by Shub Hub. Their guarantee is NOT given. It took 41 days to receive a shrub that is deliverable in 7-10 days.

They run deceptive and fraudulent business practices. First of all, their 30 day satisfaction guarantee runs from the day you purchase the package, not from the day you actually receive any service. It’ll take you couple of weeks before you get to have your initial call with the project manager to discuss scope of your project. From there it’ll be almost a month before you see a first draft. Here is what went wrong with our project. Project manager seemed to be more focused on upselling us for their services during our call than paying attention to what we needed / wanted to get done. She then proceeded to charge my credit card they kept on file without my permission. After our call I emailed her immediately and told her to refund my card for lighting package as we didn’t have electricity in our backyard no way to get it there. She of course disregarded my request. 3.5 weeks later we got our first draft. Areas that were already landscaped and I told her we would not be changing were completely redesigned despite the fact I didn’t even provide measurements for them. What I did provide was measurements for the lawn area that we wanted redesigned into seating area surrounded by flower beds and a water feature. That was left untouched. I immediately recognized that the project manager completely disregarded my written instructions about the project and also disregarded everything she was told during our call. At that moment I wanted nothing more to do with this company. I emailed her my feedback and request for a full refund. She again, ignored my request and replied she could do revisions. What revisions? We’d have to redo everything. I wasn’t going to spend months going back and forth with them. Called and talked to “customer service” twice and requested refund. Nothing happened. Emailed project manager again. Nothing happened except the same “we can do revisions”. Called my credit card company and disputed all charges. They’re nothing but scammers. Their backyard “package” advertised for under $300 is a lie. They’ll upcharge you left and right before they’ll send you any proposal and then will refuse to refund you even if they didn’t deliver anything you asked for. Someone should start class action suit and run them out of business. Based on BBB complaints I read, I’m not the only one having the same experience.
