Beware: ShrubHub operates more like a bait-and-switch than a reputable business. They do not honor their guarantee, even when clearly in violation of their own terms. I spent nearly $700 on a ShrubHub design package in Aug 2025. Despite providing clear instructions about my yard’s difficult topography, the need for a retaining wall, and restrictions from a city walking path/easement, the designs I received completely ignored them. Not only was my yard magically flat, but the design had a gazebo and plantings on the city easement! The design was completely unusable. I immediately requested a refund (well within their advertised 30-day guarantee). However, after multiple emails, I’ve only received vague replies and no refund. I’ve filed a BBB complaint and a fraud claim with my bank.

I hired Shrubhub for a landscape design (Order #22157064). After paying $297 for the only package their wizard presented, they told me it didn’t actually cover my property’s square footage and demanded another $1,600 to continue. That was never disclosed up front — a clear bait-and-switch. The design process itself was just as bad: Their designer was cheap labor in the Philippines, barely spoke English and had zero familiarity with local plants species, but still ignored all my feedback. He admitted weeks later that no revisions had been implemented, even though I had submitted feedback multiple times. I was never notified when iterations were uploaded and only found them by manually checking. The designs were incomplete, off-brief, and unusable, like a child drew them. It looked terrible. Made no sense. Excessive, disorganized, messy, convoluted. When I escalated, they stopped responding and ignored my communications. Shrubhub refused to issue a refund despite repeated requests. I’ve since had to dispute the charges with my bank, who conducted an investigation and found beyond reasonable doubt that the service was not provided as advertised, and has since refunded me in full. This is a very sketchy and manipulative organization that should be shut down. Avoid this company. Their pricing practices are misleading, and their service is unprofessional.

I ordered a Rosie the Riveter Rose bush but received a climbing rose with really huge rosehips that someone just attached a Rosie the Riveter tag to. I am a youtuber with a number of roses in my garden so I knew the rose bush they sent was not what I initially ordered...I Never received a tracking number after reaching out twice about that (with no response) the plant arrives at my door but its not a Rosie the Riveter, I email them with my complaint which they ignored initially then I threatened to report them to the BBB and all of a sudden they start responding to every email I send only not with a refund or even trying to correct the problem by sending me the rose that I paid 150+ dollars they ask for photos which I sent just for them to tell me they are investigating (meanwhile the plant is dying) shrubhubs customer service is pitiful, the item purchased also pitiful and not to mention WRONG, PPL DO NOT DO BUSINESS with this company they are the absolute WORST! But I blame myself I only looked through the reviews on shrubhubs website which are clearly sorted through by them, leaving nothing but a handful of positive reviews. Unless you just have $$$ to throw away stay as far as you possibly can from shrubhub. They are a total scam!

After our initial meeting, it took weeks to hear back from my designer. The initial rendering appeared to have been generated by AI, or someone who didn't review the numerous photos I uploaded. I decided to not proceed with the revision process knowing how slow the response time would be, hence I requested a refund. They took weeks to respond to my refund request and ultimately said I was outside the refund period. Only proceed with Shrubhub if you're willing to be held hostage to their slow design process.

Horrible - now they refuse to answer any of my emails. Do not waste your money. Their website states “Talk to Our Design Expert’s Our design experts will remotely create a hardscape and landscape design with plants & materials that fit your climate zone.” The design I received lacked forethought in size and growth rate. The person who did this was not an expert as the design was functionally incorrect, nor did it follow the discussion we had with Emily. The plantings were poorly executed, and in many cases would have outgrown the area planted in. This is not what I expected of an expert. I think their website improperly describes the skills of the person executing the project. I wish I checked the BBB before giving them my hard-earned money! The reviews are frightening.

IT IS NOT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION LIKE THEY ADVERTISE!!! I HAVE LOST COUNT OF THE EMAILS AND PHONE CALLS TRYING TO GET BACK LESS THAN 300 DOLLARS!!! THEY ALSO DO A TON OF UPSELLING!!! THIS IS MY LASEST EMAIL HERE WE GO AGAIN... HOW CAN YOU SAY YOU DID YOUR JOB WHEN YOU DID NOT DO WHAT I MADE CLEAR IN MY REQUEST FOR SERVICE, ON THE PHONE AND IN THESE EMAILS. I DID NOT ASK FOR BEDS ALONG SIDES OF THE BACK YARD, THE SIDES OF THE HOUSE, OR THE BACK OF THE HOUSE. I ASKED FOR THE BACK FENCE!!! IF YOU TAKE THE CORNERS OUT OF THE EQUATION THAT LEAVES ABOUT 50 FEET. WHICH IS A SMALL FRACTION OF WHAT YOU PUT TOGETHER. I DO NOT WANT ANYTHING IN THE CENTER!! I MADE IT VERY CLEAR THIS WAS TO BE SMALL, SIMPLE, LOW COST... I AM FINISHED!! I AM BEYOND UNSATISFIED!!!! STOP!!! RESPONSE ON 12/23 Hello Stephanie, I hope this email finds you well. This is Celeste, a Shrubhub manager. I got notified that you've requested a refund. I am sorry that this has been your experience with us. I am attaching section 10 of our Terms & Conditions so you can understand better how our policies work. We only offer partial refunds for the 3D Custom Design. The refund amount is based on the number of hours we spent working on your project. Since we have provided a 2D Plan and around 16 3D Renderings, we have to pay our designer for the work they have put into your project. Unfortunately, it seems like this is not working for you, however, we'd love to provide you with a complimentary revision and make sure all of your notes are taken into consideration. On the other hand, if you want to proceed with the refund we can offer a 20% refund of the amount you have paid. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you are seeking revisions and I'd love to help you. Wishing you a beautiful day! Celeste Department Manager It is now Jan, 10TH, still no refund. Terrible experience. Just copied my 'idea' design and turned it into a 3D drawing. Didn't spread plants like I requested, didn't show Australian plants like I requested. Didn't come up with any new ideas. Refused to give me any refund.

The designer on the phone consultation was a condescending jerk. I originally signed up through an IG ad and sent in all my info. He then told me that the quote is only good for 3000 sq ft and would not cover the scope of my project. No problem. Was open to paying the up price, but then he went on to tell me repeatedly that it was on their website, on their mobile, that the project was only good for 3000 sq ft. He must've told me like 5-6 times, after I said I didn't see that. After reading all these other reviews I couldn't be happier that I avoided going any further with this company. Terrible experience, all because of the person on the phone.
