Refund assurances at signup, little support afterward
I joined Content Growth Engine hoping to overcome a problem I had struggled with for about a year: perfectionism that kept me making videos without finishing them. I wanted structure, accountability, and support to help me move forward.
The money-back guarantee was a major reason I enrolled. In promotional videos and during my one-on-one sales conversations, I was assured that the program would be refundable if it didn’t work. I signed up the very day I was laid off. I was vulnerable and looking for a way forward, and those assurances helped convince me to take what felt like a leap of faith.
I want to be fair: I have not been able to put the time and effort into the program that I originally intended. I take responsibility for that, and I cannot evaluate the results of fully completing it. What I can speak to is my experience with the sales process and the support afterward.
Since enrolling, I have received only two Discord messages from the team, and my emails have gone unanswered. When I reached out because I wanted to speak with someone about getting properly started, I was told there would be no refund. My attempts to continue the conversation have since been ignored.
That has been especially upsetting given the reassurance I received before paying. I believed I was joining a program that would support new creators through their difficulties. Instead, I have felt dismissed when asking for help.
It has now been two months, and I have not yet spoken to a coach. The feedback I received from the customer success manager was basic and largely amounted to telling me what I had done well. I needed specific, actionable guidance about what to improve and how to move forward.
The possibility of a monthly $1,000 charge is now hanging over me while I feel I am getting little value from the program. I have also been disappointed with the recommended editing tools. The Icahn method, as I experienced it, felt too close to reproducing other creators’ work for my comfort.
I recognize that some people have had positive experiences and benefited from the program. My experience has been different. What I hoped would help me move forward has become one of the biggest sources of stress in my life.
I feel embarrassed about joining under these circumstances, but I’m sharing my experience so someone in a similar position can make a more informed decision. Before enrolling, get the exact refund conditions and support commitments in writing. The gap between the reassurance I received during signup and the response afterward has left me feeling deeply let down.

I feel the same way about the one star…
I feel the same way about the one star reviews, however, i am man enough to give this guy 2 stars for effort. It seems that he plays on peoples emotions and asks them to interact, and then he slowly sites some overly inflated values for his software. then at the very end he springs on you, after you signed up for his "classes: that its 1000 USD per month and then says that he wouldnt give you access to his AI Assesment tools without listening to him again. So, its a hard sell and I wouldnt recommend him to other small businesses looking to grow on YouTube. I have experienced similar guys and i always stop following them.

We’ve carefully checked our records but were unable to find an account or any interaction that matches your details. We also want to clarify that we do not offer a $1,000-per-month program as described.
If you did interact with our team, please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can look into it personally and make things right.

Big promises, little detail
After attending the webinar and a 15 minute strategy call, I went into my 1 hour “demo call” expecting a demonstration of the actual program I’d be using. Instead, much of the conversation seemed focused on thinking bigger (was told wanting $5-$10k per month within 6 months was selling myself short... why not $30k, $40k?), not to overthink the decision, and to base my decision on what is possible. Even though I don't yet have a channel, and don't have a big ticket program to lead people to. I get how to dream big, but also understand being realistic :) After 15 minutes of this I asked for a demo and was shown a few presentation slides outlining what topics are covered during an onboarding call, the benefits of support & community, and some case studies - basically a condensed rehashing of Shane’s webinar. Even though I repeatedly asked, I never got a demo of how the Content Growth Engine actually works.
But before making an investment of nearly $10,000, I need to understand what I’m purchasing - not simply what the potential outcome might be.
Was told how often I’m supposed to meet with coaches & that they’d hold my hand throughout. But specific questions and concerns were dismissed or answered generally or vaguely - and then Ryan rushed to get off the call because he had 20 more calls that day. I’m not sure if he even runs a YT channel or is simply a sales guy who doesn’t actually KNOW the answers to my questions.
So I sent a follow up email asking for clarity on things like could I see an actual demo of the system? After being told the AI did the bulk of the script writing, pre-production AND post production, I’d asked what it specifically handles, and what I am expected to handle in terms of the production (beyond filming of course). I was told I’d have access to the AI system AFTER the 6 months of coaching is up, but I don’t know what that means or includes (since I never got a demo), so asked for clarity on that - what I have access to, and for how long, and what I lose access to - and if there is any additional cost associated. (During the call he told me there was no additional cost but that their goal is to upsell me later). Asked if there is any guarantee offered.
I received no reply to my email.
Apparently wanting to understand what I’m purchasing BEFORE I purchase it means I’m not a fit for them. Which is fine because I’m guessing if they’d answered my questions fully I’d have decided they are not for me. I’m not spending $10k on hope and a promise of a strategy.

Be Prepared to Fight for the Moneyback Guarantee
If the program still comes with a money back guarantee, be prepared to fight hard for it.
Shane advertised this as a 'Double Moneyback Guarantee' at the free live training I attended. I enrolled in the $6,000 group program and attempted a faceless channel — they confirmed the guarantee still applied to faceless channels, and that it would just take more work.
I followed instructions consistently — completed all initial assignments, posted twice a week, used the ICAHN method and Holy Trifecta, implemented coach feedback throughout. After six months I had four subscribers and twelve watch hours. When I raised the money back guarantee, a new coach said I'd received bad advice and offered a three month extension with biweekly coaching calls, which I accepted. I implemented all his feedback throughout. At the end of that extension I had 39 subscribers — nowhere near meaningful monetization, even if not relying on AdSense.
Worth noting: if I understood correctly, the coach told me I was the one faceless channel in the program actually posting. The others weren't posting or getting results. There are faceless channels outside the program have succeeded, but apparently not in CGE (at least not yet)— information that would have been relevant before I enrolled.
They offered me an extension in exchange for a Trustpilot review, and gave me a few days to think about it. I ultimately declined. I later found out this practice violates Trustpilot's ToS.
When I requested my refund, the process took almost a month with no clear timeline given at any point. I was repeatedly told they were 'carefully reviewing my participation against the Results Guarantee'. I eventually informed them that I believed there was an attempt to avoid honoring the guarantee. I gave them a deadline to refund me or I would write a review that includes the non-refund and file a complaint with the Washington State Attorney General.
They responded quickly with an offer of a $4,000 “goodwill refund,” acknowledging I had “taken the coaching seriously, consistently implemented feedback, and remained engaged.” They said I didn't fully meet the criteria, but didn’t explain which criteria I failed to meet. I asked which criteria weren't met.
After around 44 hours of them not responding to that question, I then told them they could either send the 4K and I'd file an AG complaint regarding the remaining 2K, or send the full 6K and I wouldn't file. They refunded the full 6K, and still said I didn’t fully meet the criteria, but still didn’t explain that conclusion. I did not submit a complaint.
The coaches genuinely tried to help me during the program and were respectful through it. Had the decision-makers handled the refund process professionally — giving a clear timeline and processing it straightforwardly — I could see this being a four star review. The two star rating reflects the month of delays, the partial offer without justification, and the failure to ever explain which criteria I allegedly didn't meet — not the refund outcome itself. They ultimately did the right thing, but only after significant persistence on my part.
It looks like they updated the Results Guarantee to have more specific criteria. Be sure to follow these criteria closely. Hopefully this means that in future cases, they will more objectively assess against the criteria in a reasonable amount of time. Also, hopefully they are no longer advertising “double” moneyback guarantee, which is inconsistent with both the contract and the experience of getting a refund.
UPDATE - AUGUST 20, 2026 (RATING DECREASED FROM 2 TO 1 STAR DUE TO THE COMPANY'S RESPONSE): The company's claim below that their coaches told me a faceless channel disqualified me is factually contradicted by our written record. When they initially offered me a partial "goodwill refund," I explicitly asked them to state which criteria for the full refund I failed to meet, which they did not do.
They only issued the 100% refund after I stated I would file a complaint with the Attorney General. Furthermore, the version of the Results Guarantee they claim applied in my case did not state any such restriction. Their admission that they have since changed their terms to be more specific proves their original criteria were more vague than what they wanted to enforce.
Also, if they had told me that the guarantee doesn't apply to faceless channels because they are more difficult to monetize, I would not have spent 6k on the program to do one.
Also, another review posted in Jul/Aug 2026 mentions a non-answer in response to the moneyback guarantee.
As mentioned by both sides, I have my money back. I no longer have skin in the game, and I decline their offer for free access. I am stating these facts purely to inform potential future buyers.

Thank you, Joe, for sharing your experience and for recognizing the effort our coaching team put into supporting you.
Our review process is designed to be thorough so that every case is assessed fairly against the Results Guarantee terms.
While this meant taking additional time to carefully evaluate your participation, we did ultimately approve a full refund of $6,000 as a goodwill resolution.
Regarding your channel, you were one of the few participants who pursued a faceless approach.
As our coaches explained during your calls, faceless channels are not eligible because they tend to be more challenging, since they require extra effort to build audience connection. We respect that you followed this path consistently, even though traction was slower than expected.
Since you originally joined the program, a lot has changed, and we’ve continued to evolve our training, coaching, and support. At the time, faceless channels were not an approach we recommended for the Results Guarantee.
That said, we’ve since expanded our coaching expertise, and we now have a coach on our team who successfully runs a faceless channel and is able to coach clients pursuing that model.
We’ve also updated our Results Guarantee with clearer and more specific criteria, making the requirements easier to understand and allowing future cases to be evaluated more objectively and efficiently.
If this catches your attention, we’d be happy to offer you a 60-day goodwill access period at no cost so you can try the program again and see how the coaching and systems have evolved since you originally joined.
Just reach out to us directly at [email protected] so we can set this up for you.

Intense workload, burnout, and no $10k/month results
I was a full time college student and calisthenics athlete with multiple external commitments. The CGE coaches told me to create YouTube videos 1 to 3 times per week. I did not achieve the advertised $10k a month outcome.
During the webinar and sales process, I was told that many full time students and working individuals were making $10k/month or more within 6 months through YouTube. I was also told that reaching $10k/month within 3 to 4 months was highly likely if I followed the program.
The 1 on 1 monthly check in calls with a coach lasted 30 minutes, which was not enough time to address all my questions. Weekly group calls were 1 hour or more, but it was difficult to get personalized feedback due to the number of participants.
The coaching often emphasized experimenting and finding your own niche and style.
The coaching approach required a significant amount of self-directed experimentation within a recommended niche, rather than providing a fully structured step-by-step system, which made it difficult for a beginner to know exactly what to execute.
I extracted familiarity with online income systems, motivation to post content, and I became more comfortable with consistency under pressure.
I initially wanted to learn the full system of making money on YouTube before creating content. The offer creation module felt generalized, and I was unsure of next steps.
When asking for feedback on improving my videos, I received mostly general YouTube growth advice rather than specific guidance tailored to my situation or strengths.
My experience was that the program’s pace and coaching style were not well-aligned with my circumstances as an overwhelmed student, and there was strong emphasis on consistent output before I felt prepared.
Based on my experience, I strongly encourage future buyers to think carefully about whether you:
1. Enjoy creating YouTube videos
2. Are comfortable with slower-than-expected progress
3. Have enough time and energy to consistently execute while balancing other commitments
Based on my experience, students with limited time and multiple commitments should carefully consider whether the required level of consistency is realistic for their situation.
This review reflects my personal experience with the overall structure and fit of the program for my situation and is not a reflection of any individual coach.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us, Andrew.
I'm truly sorry that the program wasn't the right fit for you and that your experience didn't meet your expectations.
After reviewing your journey with us, we can see that you joined the program in September 2025 and completed your onboarding in October.
Throughout your time with us, you worked with multiple coaches, including Murray, Marta, and Tina, and received ongoing support through coaching sessions, assignment reviews, and implementation guidance.
On February 26, Marta reconnected with you for a 30-minute follow-up call to help you get back on track after a period of inactivity. On March 26, after another follow-up conversation, we provided you with a one-month extension so you could continue making progress.
On April 6, Tina reviewed your Muse assignment and invited you to book a follow-up coaching call, and on April 14, she shared two Holy Trifecta examples to help with implementation.
After you let us know your school workload had increased, we extended your access again on April 21 through May 10 so you could work through the program at a pace that better suited your circumstances. When your Trustpilot review changed from 3 stars to 1 star, our team continued reaching out on June 1, June 2, and June 3 by phone, SMS, email, and a follow-up call invitation because we genuinely wanted to better understand your concerns and see how we could improve your experience.
If we could have done a better job setting expectations around the level of commitment required or providing additional structure for someone just beginning their YouTube journey, we take full responsibility for that.
It genuinely disappoints us to know that you left feeling the program wasn't the right fit, because our goal is to help every student build a sustainable YouTube business while providing the guidance and support they need throughout the process.
We also appreciate the thoughtful feedback you shared with us regarding beginner guidance, coaching frequency, and expectation-setting, as feedback like yours helps us continue improving the experience for future students.
We'd still welcome the opportunity to continue the conversation and see if there's anything more we can do for you. Please feel free to reach out to us at [email protected] so we can discuss how we can best make this right.

Zero response from support over the entire 6 months
What went wrong is that you will get zero response from support regarding any issues you're having with the course or communication with coaches. I have already completed my 6 months and I did learn valuable things from the content but I would never buy again from an organization that offers this type of support for such a high ticket offer. I do not recommend.
Update: I wanted to add that they did offer me an extension to 'make up' for the lack of communication during the program. That was nice and I wanted to note that I received valuable information during the program and it did help my channel grow. I am hoping that they've fixed the previous communication problems that existed while I was in the program.

Thank you for taking the time to share this.
I am deeply sorry that the program wasn't the right fit and that you didn't get the experience you deserved. We checked in our systems and you had 8 meetings with our team from September till December. Sep 11th, Sep 30th, Oct 1st, Oct 8th, Oct 22nd, Dec 5th, Dec 9th, Dec 16th.
If we have missing something we take full responsibility for that because we take pride in delivering great results to all our students.
It genuinely upsets me to know we let you down, as we want nothing more than to see every student thrive. While we have since fixed those communication delays, I want to make sure we make things right for you personally.
Please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can discuss how I can best make this up to you. I wish you the absolute best moving forward.
EDIT April 17th: We agreed with the customer to the 2 months of additional coaching free of charge to make up for the experience they had. We already had 2 coaching sessions and they had best video this year with 6.4k views!

Great training content, but very disorganized coaching experience
I joined the Content Growth Engine program by Shane Hummus with high expectations because I really admire Shane’s YouTube content. His videos are excellent and the training material itself is genuinely valuable. The recorded lessons were clear, practical, and very well done.
However, my experience with the coaching side of the program was disappointing and very disorganized.
One of the biggest challenges was the platform setup. The program uses multiple places at the same time: the course content is hosted in one platform, discussions happen in Discord, there are private channels, and other conversations happen in separate spaces. It created a lot of friction just to find information or participate.
Compared with other coaching programs I’ve taken, this felt unnecessarily complicated. I often wondered why everything wasn’t kept in one place using a platform like Kajabi, Skool, or something similar with perhaps a single community space. Instead, it felt like constant friction just to access content, recordings, and conversations.
The Discord itself was very difficult to navigate. There were many channels and spaces, and it was often unclear where discussions were happening. It made the program feel scattered instead of structured.
The coaching calls were another challenge. None of the calls I attended were with Shane Hummus himself. They were run by coaches whose experience I did not know, and some did not appear to have established YouTube channels or proven results. Personally, I expected coaches with stronger hands-on experience growing channels.
Many of the calls were also scheduled after 6 p.m., which made them difficult for me to attend.
When recordings were provided, they were not well organized. The recordings were placed together without clear categorization by topic, and they were not easily downloadable. Again, it created unnecessary friction when trying to learn from past sessions.
To be fair, the course content itself is very strong. The training videos are clear and useful, and there is real value there. If someone were purchasing only the course material, I believe it would be worthwhile.
However, the full program costs around $6,000, and at that price I expected a much higher level of organization, structure, and experienced coaching.
When I eventually requested a refund (which the program advertises), communication became difficult. After a call with someone from the team we initially agreed to try continuing with a new coach, but I ultimately felt I had lost trust in the program. After multiple messages and emails without resolution, I eventually had to go through my bank to recover the payment.
Overall, I still think Shane Hummus creates excellent educational content, and I respect the value of the training videos.
But based on my experience, the coaching program itself did not meet the level of professionalism and organization I expected for the price.
I’m sharing this review simply to help others make a well-informed decision before investing. I do hope the program improves because the core training itself is good.
Response from Content Growth EngineMay 18, 2026
Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough review, and for acknowledging that Shane’s program is clear, practical, and genuinely valuable. We’re grateful you said that, and we don’t take it lightly.
I’m also sincerely sorry that the coaching side of the experience felt disorganized and frustrating. We reviewed your journey on our end and our records show you enrolled on January 25, 2026, attended 4 calls with our team and received feedback on your Niche 2.0 and Viral Video Assignment. Ultimately, you requested to cancel on February 25.
It genuinely upsets me to hear that you left feeling you couldn’t trust the process, because our mission is to: to give you step by step process on how to grow and monetize your YouTube channel.
We took action on this feedback:
- We made the community only in Skool and the engagement almost doubled with an average of 20 new client wins per week.
- In Discord we remove everthing that was not a dedicated coaching channel with each client.
- We changed the times of the group coaching calls to cover mornings, afternoons, evenings and even Europe times.
- Hired 4 coaches which each of them has generated more than 100m organic views and let go of the team members with less experience. All of our clients are going to get the premium experience now.
- We also hired a dedicated billing support person to make the process of communication around payments smoother.
Please reach out to us at [email protected] so we can look at the full thread with you and work toward how we can make it right for you.
