Fast way to pick up prerequisites if your not worried about GPA
I did like the fact that it can be completed in 5 weeks. I DO NOT like the fact that the tests holds so much weight on the grades and if you are going to keep it that way then extra credit should be allowed. Even USC SanDiego does this for the students as they also place a heavy grade weight on tests. It is nearly impossible to get an A in your program (I never did) and I had a straight 4.0 in all sciences before taking your classes and graduated summa cumm laude from my BS program it was the tests that prevented me from achieving this, I was always at an 89. something right on the edge but if I had been able to do some extra credit ... which would have actually helped me learn something.. test do nothing to teach you they just evaluate what you already know. I think you have some good instructors and the 5 week accelerated classes helps us who are in need of picking up some prerequisites quickly but you are also screwing us by placing such heavy grade weight on the test and if your going to do that let it be untimed and open book or and if not allow extra credit.
Response from SCU, Accelerated Science CoursesMar 13, 2024
Thank you for sending us this comprehensive feedback about your experience. While our courses are indeed rigorous especially given their accelerated nature, the goal is to accurately assess learning by providing various assignments and lower-stakes exams. In our most recent course revision, we intentionally reworked our exams to count for only 40% of a student's overall grade in a course in order to reduce anxiety around high-stakes testing and provide more opportunities to demonstrate learning in the course. While we do sometimes provide extra credit opportunities, we only do so when those assignments are offered to all students. With all of that being said, I am sorry you were not able to have enough of an opportunity to demonstrate what you had learned and were left unsatisfied as a result.
