Rover is a good resource for pet sitters but when there are issues, do not expect them to do much about it. Also, while they have a lot of people and their calendars show availability, more than half of the ones I reach out to are not available or simply never respond. If you use Rover, you better start looking months in advance and if you have issues, good luck getting any resolution from Rover. I had a house sitter actually decide to leave in the middle of my pet sitting and refused to come back. I had to hire a friend at great expense since I was about 13 hours away on vacation and all Rover did was simply refund my unused booking. Even though I had to pay a lot more to get an emergency sitter there, they refused to do anything about it. The incident was in December 2024 but they do not allow me to go back to that date so I went back as far as they would show.

Not great. Difficult to use. High 3rd party rates. Wag is much better.

I appreciate the service provided by Rover and the sitters I have gotten through them. On the business side though, I do not like that they require payment in advance to confirm and hold an appointment. If you want to be certain you have a sitter five months from now, Rover takes your money and holds onto it before ultimately paying the sitter at the end of the time they actually sat. I could see taking their fee and putting a hold on the balance, but just riding along on other's money is a hidden money maker for them that I do not like.

Rover should allow for ratings & reviews for sitters even before boarding, to vet further the employees they provide. I wasted my time and energy on a no show greet and meet that the potential sitter initiated. I also reached out to her via phone and she still didn’t respond. Waited over 30 mins where we agreed to do the meet and greet. If a sitter can’t follow through with a meet & greet she initiates and not even respond when you reach out to her, how are you suppose to trust she will take good care of your dog? How can Rover offer dog care takers like this? The person who flaked on me had 5.0 stars and 3 strong reviews. Suspect that most of the sitters they offer have high reviews. Rover does nothing about this except advises to go with sitters that have a lot of good reviews and repeat clients. The thing is, most those clients tend to be on the higher end of pricing. What about those that need more “economical” options? I say, “economical” because $52\day relatively isn’t that economical either. Rover needs to find a way to make these potential sitters more accountable e.g., offer to lower star rating even for booking requests for instances like mine (not just for people who already boarded), allow for reviews even prior to boarding if a person requests his/her service and a meet and greet is in progress…

I love my sitter. I hate all the extra fees on the app this year. Why extra fees now?

The chat feature is unbearable! Sometimes sitting for nearly 10 minutes between responses

They have lovely pet sitters but the web site really wasn’t user friendly to me. I didn’t understand the numbers by the pictures but I thought price for sitting but not for hours per day or anything. Then I chose someone near and was told it was too far away. Which was NOT true. I ended up with my pick. Plus I was offered two people very far from me? Confusing and couldn’t contact sitter until payment went through?

The online setup process could have been clearer and easier to set up. The person I used was great. Couldn't have asked for a better result from her.
