The actual company is fine. My sitter was awful and left me scrambling while I was away. Rover was as helpful as could be i suppose. But the ai chat bot was super frustrating.

Luck of the Draw..
Life is like a box of chocolates applies to Rover. You "never" know what you will get! One sitter did not replenish food or change water the 10 days I was gone. She also did not change three litter boxes so my cats proceeded to poop on every 200 square inch of my tiled bathroom!! I couldn't breathe when I came home and saw it. I am a very OCD clean person. In contacting Rover they forced interaction between me and the Rover sitter whom I felt neglected my cats greatly. It was like a hoarding situation, but my house!! Now the next sitter was better. It's really just an advertising site for sitters. Rover stands behind their sitters ZERO percent. Be aware. I recommend cameras on areas pets are in especially food and water bowls.

I do not recommend working on this…
I do not recommend working on this platform as a sitter.
During a booking, I followed all instructions provided and did everything I could to resolve a difficult situation, including staying on-site for extended hours, making repeated attempts to recover the pet, contacting support multiple times, and following Rover’s guidance. I was told to call the police under certain circumstances, and that resulted in me receiving a citation while trying to handle the situation.
The dog did well during the meet and greet with its owners present. However, once I was the sole handler, the dog had very poor recall, would not allow safe approach, and ran anytime someone tried to get close. This made the situation extremely difficult to resolve alone, especially since the dog was not responding to anyone other than its owners.
Despite all of this, I received little practical support in real time. The owner was refunded, my account was permanently deactivated without a clear explanation, and I was not compensated for the time, travel, supplies, or money I spent trying to recover the dog.
If you choose to work on this app, protect yourself. Get detailed information about the pet’s behavior, recall, escape risks, and home safety before accepting any booking. In my experience, this platform does not put sitters first under any circumstances. Regardless of how much effort you put in or whether you follow instructions, when something goes wrong, the sitter is left to deal with the consequences alone.

Beware if you have pets staying in your house
Recently looked after a dog who caused £100 of damage by chewing things in the house. Sent evidence to Rover who say it's not covered so you look after cats and dogs at your own risk.

Hi Bonny, we’re sorry to hear about this experience. We understand how frustrating unexpected damage can be. Sitters on Rover are independent contractors, and while we do offer support through the Rover Guarantee, coverage is determined on a case-by-case basis. We hear your concerns and appreciate you sharing this feedback. -Brittney

Remove inactive or unresponsive profiles
It was very frustrating to reach out to over a dozen profiles that never even got back to me. Are these profiles no longer active or what?! I feel like Rover should do a better job sorting out these profiles and not include ones that haven't been active for months into the search. I also had profiles appear that weren't relevant. We were specifically looking to board our dog, but Rover kept showing us profiles of sitter who only did house sitter or drop ins. Also I wish you could filter and organize sitters by your preferences. For example filter by closest to farthest or most recently online or least recently online. The app feels very clunky and outdated. We did enjoy the chat feature and receiving photos and videos, but overall the app and site has a lot of room for improvement.

Really disappointing
Really disappointing! We are new to Rover and have started looking after a few dogs. Unfortunately one of the dogs got out from our property. My husband did get the dog back. He told Rover and the owner straight away. Our account was suspended for investigation and then opened back up. We assumed all was well and have been doing more meet ups and made a few bookings. Suddenly our account was cancelled today. We are not allowed to appeal. We have no way of apologising or communicating with the owners who had already booked. We have no idea why our account has been cancelled. The communication from Rover has been really poor. The owners of the dog who got out had been fine and was grateful for my husband’s open and honesty. They also said the dog had done it before but had failed to tell us before their stay. (Something we learnt from and have since checked with every other dog owner). We feel we have been treated really badly. We have had no negative reviews or complaints. Rover is supposed to do a two strike rule but this is our first strike. We do not feel that this sort of thing will lead to people using the app being open and honest. If people know that if a dog gets off the lead or gets out the property just once then you will get banned who is going to tell Rover? When actually incidents like this make you better as you learn and make sure it never happens again!! I feel that Rover need to improve their communication and if an account is still under review then communicate this as it would have meant we would have held off making any more bookings until we were sure we were clear.
