My sitter ran the roads more than she did house sitting and taking care of my dogs. They were fed but left outside in the kennel for long hours and after dark. The sitter got in a wreck and was unable to care for the dogs. I had to arrange for a relative to take care of them from 2500 miles away. Thank God she came to their rescue! My trust in Rover isn’t good right now!

NEVER AGAIN…
UPDATE:
Rover has used their boilerplate reply template for negative reviews, just solidifying that their model seems to be that their clients and pets are dispensable commodities.
Original post:
This was our first and only time using Rover, not only because of the unfathomable issues with the sitter, but the lack of urgency in the response from Rover - advising that even in the most dire of situations, replacement of a sitter could take days, a luxury we did not have.
Our trip was to address a surgical issue for a family member fighting cancer, so leaving early to return home was not an option and this situation was far from helpful as we were navigating surgery and treatment hours from home.
Over the course of two days, this individual made zero effort to communicate with us, not a single photo, and the only sitter initiated conversation was to ask for the wifi password. Our inquires about our pups would go hours without response. The sitter was aware that we had exterior house cameras, which she swiftly disconnected on day one. Our neighbor was kind enough to reset the hub she had unplugged to ensure that our vessels, residence and vehicles were surveilled.
The exterior videos showed her climbing our grilling station to "see what was on the other side." She pulled out a 9 foot console fireplace to "plug in her playstation" and left it out for us to trip over, initially blaming the dog for moving it.
The final straw was when she left the second evening, leaving the dog door open and the boys sitting in the pitch dark. Thankfully another neighbor was able to go secure the door and make sure they were fed, watered, given some attention and left with lights on until she returned to the residence much later.
We had asked her to be gone by the time we returned home on the last day. We arrived to find her sleeping, the dogs alone in their pen area, clearly unhappy.
We believed this to be an outfit that carefully screened their people, but as they were quick to tell me, they are just the agent, that these are independent operators and Rover has no responsibility.

Very incompetent sitters
Very incompetent sitters, so called “star sitter” called me back within 20 minutes to take back my 3&5 months old puppies coz she can’t handle them, I contacted other sitters no one responded coz I put her real reviews how dirty n filthy her yard was, how she couldn’t handle my puppies, I think all these sitters are connected to each other that no one else responded me back, horrible service, i m glad I didn’t plan any trips yet it was all trial… I would never use n recommend sitters through the app.

They allowed stranger in my house
They allowed strangers in my house. After carefully selecting the right person (or what I thought was the right person) from their app she comes to my door step woth her partner who did not have his name on the profile, they both stayed at my house overnight even thought she was told her partner was not welcome as my dog does not like strange men but he stayed the night in my house regardless. Also during the day she did not house sit my dog and was out of the house for hours and came very late at night. If I pay for house sitting I expect the bloody sitter to be at home with my pet for more than an hour a day. And rover bands me because I told them verbally that they should not bring her partner in my house, in what universe if the person not on the profile allowed to stayed at your house I pay for the services of one person whoever they want to bring g to tag along with them for a free vacation at my house. What a joke of an app use other ones.

Faulted me for the Sitter Locking Himself Out, Provided no support to resolve
1 star is generous, only selected because 0 is not an option. Horrendous “support”. My sitter locked himself out of my flat after 11pm. My close contacts with a set of keys were already asleep. The sitter had the locked drilled and destroyed, and eventually the lock was replaced.
When I sought 24/7 support during the event, it was clear the rep was only concerned about the cost that would be associated with the sitters mistake saying that I’m accountable.
Disgusting. On my first trip away in years, hit with this worry at the beginning of my trip, all Rovers can do is tell me to cough of several hundred pounds for the mistake of a sitter they connected me with. Oh, and while the crisis was still ongoing, they said in chat they would help resolve the issue by end of day. 5 days later, absolutely no reply from their support team despite my follow-up. They’ve terminated what would have been a recurring cash flow as now that I’m free to travel again, I’ll use another service while informing everyone I can about this terrible and dangerous experience.
*update* In a rich turn of events, Rover responded to this review on Trustpilot having neglected my previous attempts to contact them through their 24/7 “support”. They advised me on this thread to contact their 24/7 support.
Beware.
