Horrible Experience with a Boarder that Ghosted Me
I left my dog, Caesar, with Bria for an overnight boarding. I picked him up and he had loose teeth that were not there before. Bria ghosted me and I still do not know what happened to Caesar. I was in the emergency all day the day I picked him up. He eventually had to get surgery to have five teeth removed. Almost a week later and I still DO NOT KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO CAESAR.

Do not trust the "Rover Guarantee!"
We left our happy/healthy three year old Boxer with sitters we'd used dozens of times over Thanksgiving. On Friday morning, November 28th, we received a text from the sitter that our dog had, "fallen from a planter box, and injured herself." She was now, "limping, and in extreme pain." Turns out, she had dislocated her right rear hip, and would require surgery. The dog spent the weekend at the hospital, and went into surgery Monday morning. The bill came to >$10K which we paid believing Rover would reimburse based on their policy. They denied the claim, and we are stuck with this bill in the midst of the holidays. The reason Rover gave for denial was, "hip dysplasia," a "pre-existing condition." She had never displayed signs, and had never been diagnosed with this condition even though she'd been seen by many professionals who signed her off as a happy/healthy dog. The only way we ever could have known would be to put her through x-rays just to look for this condition. We have video of her running and jumping taken a week before the incident, and now she is likely permanently disabled. The people we left her with are flabbergasted that Rover would not cover this, and the "Rover Guarantee" was the reason they became caregivers in the first place. They only went through the app to book stays. I implore you, do not use Rover believing they will cover an incident, they will not. We're now thinking about starting a GoFundMe to help cover some of these veterinary bills. I would not trust this company with a hamster as they will find any excuse to shirk their responsibilities.

DANGEROUS ROVER DOG SITTER - ABETTED BY ROVER
We just saved our dogs in the nick of time from what may have spelled their death in the hands of a Rover 'sitter'.
As soon as we realized how dangerous the conditions were, we contacted Rover; cancelled the reservation and booked a different sitter. Support from Rover, however, was 'abysmal to none'.
The first problem was their overseas phone banks.
I spoke to an agent in their 'complaint/help' department. It took FIVE spellings of my email before she found me. She kept telling me I 'had no account'. I kept telling her I had gotten 6 emails from Rover in just the last hour at that email
The problem was English was not her first language, but she didn't trouble herself to write the email as I spelled it. So she couldn't find the email address, and kept telling me.. 'You have no account'. FIVE TIMES. ..This while my dogs were still in a dangerous situation and I was back home on my computer, trying to cancel that booking, find another sitter, and retrieve the dogs.
FINALLY - after 5 frustrating tries - the lady spelled my email correctly and opened my account.
I told her about the dangerous situation a Rover sitter was putting my dog in, .. and that I needed to reserve through a different Rover sitter, I asked her to cancel the dangerous sitter and refund my payment I had made only hours before.
The Rover rep used the CROOKED sitters cancellation policy, as if this were a mere change of plans, rather than having discovered his dangerous-operation, and refunded me just 50% of what I paid for the reservation.
Additionally, I was denied the chance to post a review of the dangerous sitter on his page, using the cancellation as an excuse. He did spend time with my dogs and does still have my payment, but Rover is not letting me post a review. Could that be why ALL the Rover sitters have 5 star reviews? If there is a problem, does that get hidden from potential customers? Are bad reviews kept from seeing the light of day??
FAKE REVIEWS.
Besides that, ALL of the reviews that ARE posted on the dangerous sitter's page, are 5 Stars, but have the same 'English as a 2nd language' errors, suggesting he, Huijun, himself, (A native Mandarin speaker) or his relatives wrote them all. How is it possible? Does Rover have such inept oversight?
Over the last 5 days and multiple phone calls to Rover, I found a native English speaker who finally understood me, copied the details of the dangerous scenario that the sitter presented to my dogs and is reporting it. He said they will look into it and send me word.
Until I see the bad sitter removed, or my review of him posted, and an appropriate refund for my cancellation, I will maintain this 1 star review.

Is Rover.com really a professional organization?
Your first sitter dumped us without notice after we met with her and agreed to the terms. Your second one never met us in person, (We think he Mom does all the sitting, not her.), and our dog came home sick for a week. When we posted a negative review on hoer site, it never showed up. We are not sure how professional your organization really is.

Our sitter quit one day into our Thanksgiving trip and Rover was not helpful in finding a replacement option for our dog. It really impacted our trip and we ended up having to have a friend go get our dog. It was a terrible experience and I would never recommend rover to anyone.

I used rover 3 times but after the last pet sitter I want to warn everyone that I was left with a very shady sitter that took advantage of my generosity and extorted me for extra money. My pet was not taken care of finding the litter box full only hours after the sitter last visit.

My dog
My dog, Rhubarb, had unexpected surgery on her back leg less than one week before I needed to leave for a required work trip. Because of this, I needed temporary support from Rover for one evening on [date of booking, if you want to add it], and I booked Sev from approximately 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Prior to the booking, I provided very clear instructions to Sev regarding Rhubarb’s post-surgical care:
• Rhubarb must wear her cone at all times when left alone, as she will lick her incision site.
• This was emphasized multiple times, and I confirmed verbally before leaving.
• I also messaged her after leaving, asking if the cone was left on. I did not receive a response.
Sev completed the visit and left sometime after 8:00 PM. The following morning, Rhubarb’s primary full-time dog sitter arrived to pick her up. Upon arrival, she found:
• Rhubarb was not wearing her cone.
• Her incision site had been licked open.
• The surgical sutures had been completely compromised.
Because of this, Rhubarb had to be taken directly back to the veterinarian for an urgent evaluation. The vet confirmed that the incision had been reopened due to licking and required additional medical care, including new sutures.
This was an extremely distressing and unsafe outcome, especially given that the instructions regarding the cone were the most important part of Rhubarb’s post-operative care. Sev later stated that she had “forgotten” to put the cone back on Rhubarb before leaving her alone for the night.
To be fair and accurate, during the visit Sev did:
• Provide updates and photos
• Take Rhubarb on a walk
• Assist with bringing packages inside
However, the critical safety instruction—keeping the cone on to protect the surgical site—was not followed. As a result:
• Rhubarb experienced a medical complication
• She required additional veterinary treatment
• I incurred additional vet expenses
• My dog was left at risk of infection
I am submitting this report because the breach in care instructions directly caused harm to my dog, and I believe Rover should be aware of the full situation for safety and quality purposes. I am also requesting guidance on next steps regarding reimbursement and documentation for the veterinary visit.
