Do your research before finding a reliable babysitter
Babysitter wasn't reliable enough for my standards. To complacent, not enough communication, lack of enthusiasm for my pet. Was mainly in it for the money. And Rover rated her five star 🌟. That what I base my decision on when selecting Heather. How she got five star is besides me!!

Disappointed
When I arrived to pick Eli up, Catecha asked me to come in, and she showed me the back of Eli's neck where there was a gash. At that time, I did not see the other gashes that were also on the back of his neck because her hand was covering them. In total, there were four gashes. Catecha stated that Eli must have injured himself trying to get out of a crate, which made no sense, especially since the instructions I sent her clearly stated that he does not get crated. He has NEVER been crated. I also told her this verbally, to which she responded, "no problem." When I asked her why he was crated, she said that she had to so she could sleep. As far as concerns prior to leaving him there, Catecha has in her profile that she only has one dog, a Cane Corso. When we arrived, I learned that she actually has TWO Can Corsos. Eli was taken to the vet who’s said that he believed the injuries happened from rough-housing that became aggressive. During Eli’s time there, Catecha did not send any photos or updates. I had to reach out to her to see how he was doing. Catecha seemed like a nice person but may have taken on too much.

We had to board our Yorkie, Charlie, while we waited for our new home to be completed. Charlie has a history of pancreatitis, so we made the sitter well aware of this at drop-off. We emphasized that it was vital he eat only the food we provided. The sitter initially seemed conscientious and agreed to feed Charlie separately.
Unfortunately, the sitter was not careful regarding his young son. A few days before pickup, the sitter called to say Charlie seemed very sick. When I arrived to pick him up, the sitter admitted that his son had been eating pepperoni on the couch with Charlie and that the dog "may" have eaten some. Given his state, it was obvious he had.
We rushed Charlie to the vet. He was having a severe pancreatitis flare-up and had to be hospitalized for several days. At one point, the vet wasn't sure he would make it and asked if we wanted to end his suffering. We chose to give him one more day, and thankfully, that decision saved his life.
We contacted Rover immediately. Initially, they assured us the bills would be covered. However, after weeks of paperwork and back-and-forth, they denied the claim, stating it was a "pre-existing condition." Even though we warned the sitter, documented the condition in the app, and the flare-up was directly caused by the sitter’s negligence (the pepperoni), Rover refused to pay because the vet couldn't "prove" the cause beyond a shadow of a doubt.
The vet bill was over $2,000, which we paid in full.
If you have a pet with special medical needs or diet restrictions, avoid Rover at all costs. I spent hours submitting paperwork only to be told that nothing would be covered, despite their initial assurances. This is typical corporate protectionism where profit is prioritized over pet safety. Use Rover at your own financial risk and your pet's health risk.

Hi there, thank you for sharing this and for taking the time to explain what Charlie went through. We’re so sorry to hear how serious and frightening this situation was, and we’re relieved to know he pulled through. Claims decisions are based on veterinary documentation, but there is an appeal option if you believe the determination on your claim was incorrect or if there’s additional information to review. Our Trust and Safety team would be happy to discuss that process with you and can be reached 24/7 at (888) 727 - 1140. -Brittney

No more ROVER for us!
We had a person housesitting for our two dogs and three cats for a week. She left the dogs alone for 14 1/2 hours one day. She did not scoop the litter box and left us with 5 pounds of dirty litter. She set the house alarm off twice and had to be asked four times to put the alarm on when she walked the dogs. I will not be using Rover again. I realized it makes more sense to use a service where everybody’s “job“ is taking care of the animals. Not someone who has another job, who was just supplementing their income. It was a very bad experience, and Rover did not seem to care.

Rover Dog Loss
My son and daughter-in-law vetted Rovers’ sitters prior to leaving their two treasured dogs for a babymoon in Hawaii. They left Christmas Eve and on Christmas morning, less than 24 hours later, they learn the Rover sitter lost their two dogs. The sitters were able to find one of their dogs but their 10 pound dachshund was gone. My son and daughter-in-law flew back from Hawaii and spent the next days scouring the area for their lost pet. Not only have they lost thousands of dollars with the change of travel (car rental and house both nonrefundable) from what was supposed to be a babymoon during this high risk pregnancy, and now they no longer have their treasured Apollo due to the negligence of someone Rover promised they could trust! They are heartbroken and we are all worried about what effect this loss is going to have on what is already a high risk pregnancy.
