I would not recommend Rover for anyone looking for a reputable Pet Sitter. I only use the service one time and had a terrible experience with the sitter, who was highly rated on the app, not following the instructions I had given her for a very anxious dog. I have since heard from others that they had terrible experiences as well and that their negative reviews were deleted. The company wants to make it seem like everything is great when it’s really not.

My dog became sick while in the care of a Rover sitter. Customer service did not take my concerns seriously, which was extremely disappointing given the importance of pet safety.

Do not trust them
You might as well entrust your pet to a random person on the street. This company fails to provide any identity checks, they also refused to compensate me for the financial loss caused by their failure and negligence — putting my pet at real risk. Do not trust them.

I had issues with my Dogsitter and the service she provided. My dogs were left very stressed and there was property damage. I’m still navigating the situation while I was on vacation, when I got back, and still no resolution weeks later.

Hired a pet sitter
Hired a pet sitter. Person showed up to my house after I had left on my trip and proceeded to backout and cancel causing me to scramble to find help for 3 nights to watch my dogs. Ultimatly I had to end my vacation early and come home to take care of my dogs. Contacted Rover.com and no support from them. Do not trust this company!

Rover does not vet their sitters!
Rover does not vet their sitters!
I had a terrible experience with a sitter I booked on Rover. The booking was for four days, but I had to return early because the sitter was abusing my dog. I had to drive 13.5 hours back early after less than 48 hours of my dog with the sitter. I file a complaint Rover and they told me to write a review and they would conduct an investigation. The review I posted on their website is no where to be found and they have only responded once by email stating a person has been assigned to my complaint. Here is the review I posted.
Taylar is not a qualified dog sitter. She does not even know how to feed a dog, even with instructions. On the first day of Martin being at her apartment, she called me and we spoke on the phone for almost an hour about Martin adapting to the new environment. In our conversation about dog anxiety, she stated she had given dogs couch syrup in the past to make them sleepy. That triggered me to have a high amount of concern. I was not able to cancel my trip so I continued. But I knew I had to return back home as quickly as possible to be sure Martin was in a safe place. I drove 14 hours to my appointment, and slept only 4 hours after it was complete and began the 14-hour journey back home. Needless to say, I had put my life in danger during this process. I able to return early the next day. I called Taylar to let her know I was on my way to get Martin. She said she was not a home and would be there shortly. I arrived early and when she opened her door, I found Martin locked inside his crate covered in dog food and water. Martin was totally wet and in distress. Once outside her apartment, Martin went directly to find a place to use the restroom. It was clear that Martin had been locked in the crate the entire time. I had all daily food measured and separated for eat day. Kibble and homemade topper were included with clear instruction, with a mixing bowl and spoon. I appeared on the first day, she took 4 days of kibble and 2 days of topper and mixed it and put it inside the crate. Every dog owner knows you never feed a dog inside a crate. Her profile says she has a poodle. At no time was there ever a poodle at her place. It is all lies. I took pictures of everything. I have photos of here patio that has 10 feet portable retaining walls. She says she uses these from jumping over the patio walls. This is another dog prison she has to provide lovely care for your dog. We agreed to bring Martin one day earlier, of which I gave here 20 dollars for the change. She accepted it and provided the worst care I have ever seen. She is not a dog sitter and I will do everything in my power to make sure she is removed from Rover and any other dog sitting sites in Nevada. When I returned home and started to unpack everything, I learned she had kept the nice spoon I put into the bag for mixing his food. OMG poor care and she keeps what she likes. She talks nice the entire time but once you leave, the torture begins. I am not sure what she did, but Martin had stretch marks on his nose and his ears were very sensitive to touching, which he has never had before. Martin is a AKC Star Puppy recipient, and currently training for his Canine Good Citizen CGC certification. He is extremely friendly and socialized since the age of 3 months. I am currently in the process of getting a refund from Rover and appropriate actions be taken against her. I was told to complete this review to initiate the review process. Taylar is truly not a dog sitter, and doing this only for the purposes of getting income. Yes, dogs can't talk, but their behavior says a lot about how they were treated during a stay. If Taylar respond to your request, run and run fast. Dog sitting is for dog lovers only, and not easy cash opportunist. I never use Rover again. My one sitter in the past was in the Military and they moved out of state to a new duty station. They had kids and they all loved Martin. Please protect your dog and do not use her. You would be better off dropping them off at the animal shelter.
Please review the attached PDF document.
I have photos of terrible place I found when I returned and Rover is not interested in seeing any photos, nor have they attempted to respond to my request for a refund. Don't trust their ratings...it is all fake and a smoke screen. Give your family members and friends to watch your pet.

Rover did not move forward with my…
Rover declined my request to remove a misleading review that a sitter left on my dog’s profile, despite my providing clear documentation showing the review was not accurate or representative of the situation.
I was transparent upfront about my dog’s needs, and the sitter did not disclose important details about the environment in which my dog would be cared for. Nevertheless, Rover repeatedly denied my request without taking the full context into account.
Rover should evaluate review removal requests on a case-by-case basis, especially when supporting evidence is provided. Their refusal to do so raises concerns about fairness and accountability on the platform.
Based on this experience, I will not be using Rover again to book care for my dog.
