Beware of this service! Though a majority of people seem to have been lucky much to my surprise. I have been on Rover for about 3 months and have only had very bad experiences. I have had sitters cancel on me again and again without any consequence to them. Having to cancel engagements or rearranging everything last minute. Hours and hours of searching and discussions and payments and reimbursements. It’s been a literal nightmare that I do not wish on anyone.

Unfortunately lost trust
Unfortunately, We had a very bad experience this time. Our Caregiver / home sitter left our poor dog alone 8 out of the 14 days. ( security system confirmed ) She was gone from 14-24 hours. The instructions were for her to live at our house. Feed and potty our dog every 4 hours during the day. We had used Theresa 3 times before through Rover and felt comfortable. Now we have lost trust.

There's no button option to a dog…
There's no button option to a dog sitter give a refund to the client.
Due medical issues I had to cancel a booking made in the previous day and I was still charged for a day.
The sitter is interested in give me a full refund but she has to get in touch with Rover to do so,
Something that supposed to be simple and now I won't have my refund because I can't ask someone to take time to deal with it.
I have been using the app for a while but this time I am very disappointed.

Failure to Apply Clear Cancellation Policy
My experience with Rover support was extremely frustrating and disappointing, and it clearly exposed a lack of proper training in how their own policies should be applied.
I submitted a booking request and canceled it about 5 minutes later, on the same day, five days before the service had started. Rover’s cancellation policy is very clear: when a booking is canceled before it begins — especially under a same-day policy — it qualifies for a full refund. There is no gray area or interpretation needed here.
The sitter, Charlotte, was completely understanding and agreed with the cancellation immediately. She canceled the booking right away, and there was no dispute or disagreement between us.
Despite this, Rover support — specifically a representative named Cherish — repeatedly insisted that sitters are independent contractors and that I should resolve the issue directly with the sitter. This argument was irrelevant to the situation. The sitter had already canceled the booking and had nothing to do with the charges. At that point, the matter was clearly a Rover billing and policy enforcement issue, not a contractor or sitter dispute.
Instead of applying the policy as written, support attempted to deflect responsibility by redirecting me to a third party who was no longer involved. I had to explain Rover’s own policy multiple times and insist on a refund that should have been automatic.
This strongly suggests a lack of adequate training for support representatives. When policies are clear and both parties agree, support should enforce them consistently — not hide behind contractor classifications to avoid resolving a platform-level issue.
This experience seriously damaged my trust in Rover. A platform like this should stand behind its policies and take responsibility for its billing systems. Customers should not be forced to argue, escalate, or chase sitters to receive a refund that is explicitly guaranteed.
I expected professionalism and proper policy knowledge. Instead, I felt pressured and ignored, as if following Rover’s own rules was optional.
I hope Rover reviews how refund cases are handled and improves support training, because this experience felt far more focused on avoiding responsibility than on doing what is right.

Rover takes 20% but does nothing
You take 20% of what I pay my sitter but you don’t do 20% of the work. That’s predatory and gross.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback regarding our services fees. For owners, the Rover booking fee is an 11% fee finalized at checkout based on the options and preferences selected for the booking, including dates, number of pets, duration, and any add-ons or discounts. For sitters and walkers, Rover applies a 20% service fee per booking, which means they take home 80% of their earnings. Our fees support 24/7 customer service, trust and safety, site maintenance, and sitter benefits, including payment processing and promotions. They also fund our Rover Guarantee for peace of mind. We value your feedback—please contact Rover Support at 888-453-7889 if you have any further questions. -Lexie

Worst Service
Taya bailed early saying she found a substitute to watch our dog. The substitute, Elle, came over, did not feed our dog and left her at our house alone. We had to have a neighbor rescue her. Will never use Rover again.
