Their fee is just ridiculous
My review is not about the site itself or the sitters. I always leave my dog with the same sitter as she is great and we trust her and most important, our dog loves her. Also the site is easy to use, no problems there. My review is about their fees. Rover is the site with the highest fees in the industry and they even lie about it. I sent an email questioning about their fee and the reply I got was: "The sitters set their own services and rates, Rover does not change their rates or advice them to increase them." "The service fee we charge is 15% on top of the booking value." Well, to start with this is not true. If you try to create a sitter profile on rover, you can see that they state the following: "You'll keep 85% of your earnings." So if you want to keep £20 per night, you need to put your price at £25 on their site. So you, as a client, is already paying 15% on your booking for their fee. The surprise is when you actually book it. On the top of the final fee, they charge you more 15% again! So they are charging 15% fee twice, once from the sitter and once from client. That is just bad and they try to lie to us when we contact support. Just a sneaky tactic that makes the service very expensive for clients. I would recommend booking your favourite sitter elsewhere as it will definitely be cheaper than Rover.

Hi Evandro, We're sorry to hear of your frustrations, though we do not double-charge a percentage to either the pet owner or care provider, and care providers have 100% sole discretion on their rates and services. Rover fees helps allow us to continue growing our 24/7 Trust & Safety support network for both sitters and owners, ensuring you, your earnings, and the dogs in your care are safe and secure. In addition to bringing you new clients, this standard fee helps us expand our services, offering you more opportunities like doggy day care and dog walking, and more sitter support including an updated Sitter Resource Center and Help Center.
