I feel like the App is amazing considering helping people have sitters near by your home is very convenient However my first experience was okay until my fur baby returned home from his stay at the sitter home. His bag of dog food had bites and scratch marks to the corners and bottom of his bag of food which was not pleasant looked as if mice have been biting on his bag of food. Also he was scratching allot as if he had something on him so now i will take him to get groomed asap. I feel like if prior people were honest about their prior experience prior to mine I could have been able to choose another sitter going off of ratings but this will probably be my first and last time using rover unfortunately

A message to pet owners and Rover.com
I’ve been a sitter on Rover for months now and have sat for dozens of families in multiple occasions. There are good parts and bad parts with both the owners I deal with and the company itself.
My message to Pet Owners:
Please understand that Rover takes 20% of our earnings. So while you think you may be paying too much, or that a sitter is charging too much, it’s because of Rovers greediness. I also chose to donate a portion of my earnings to charity which means I actually get 70% of what you pay. So if you pay $30 a night for a overnight sitting, i would only make $21. That’s not a lot considering you have to give this dog(s) a majority of your attention for 18-24 hours, sometimes longer. That’s less than $1 per hour. However if I don’t donate that extra 10% not only and I not able to give to charity but it also great decreases the amount of bookings I get. And if I charge more to cover that. The rate of bookings go down because “I charge too much”. Also please understand, Rover sitters are people too. They have a life, emergencies come up, they make mistakes, stuff happens. I understand you pay for a service and you expect to get it, that’s why ROVER.COM SHOULD COVER THESE MISHAPS. What are they taking that 20% for, if they can’t even provide refunds at the very least to customers whose dogs come back sickly or even dead. You as a pet owner need to clearly discuss what you want from the sitter during your meet and greet. If you choose to book with a sitter after reading bad reviews, having a bad experience at a meet and greet, then really that’s on you. Rover sitters should always provide what you ask of them, and if they’re a really good sitter, even more than that, but don’t expect a sitter to stay with your dog and keep their full attention on your dog 16-18 hours a day, when you don’t even do that yourself as a pet owner. Also please be understanding, that us sitters have fur babies of our own! The one and only time I ever left a pet longer than I discussed with the owner, was when my own pet had an emergency and had to be rushed to the animal hospital. I communicated with the owner exactly everything that happened, and apologized and said I would be there to take care of their pup as soon as we got out of the hospital. This is really all you can expect from the sitter. They can’t control emergencies anymore than you can. In the end, your dog will be fine if they are left a few hours longer than intended. I am NOT defending negligent sitters that leave dogs for 12+ hours a day. Just normal sitters, that simply have lives. Also, I have dealt with PLENTY of owners that NEGLECT to tell me that their dogs are aggressive, poorly trained, and dangerous. You have to communicate to a pet sitter that your dog isn’t potty trained, or that your dog bites, if they don’t take your dog then you just have to move on and find a sitter that will. You CAN NOT subject a sitter to that, without them knowing, and without their consent.
My message to Rover:
I understand you’re a business that has to make money, but taking 20% of every sitters earnings? THAT IS CRAZY GREEDY. You are taking money out of these hardworking people’s pockets. I personally go above and beyond to be accommodating to pets AND their owners & sometimes I BARELY make enough to cover the gas it takes to get to the pets house sometimes. What are you taking this percentage for if your not covering your sitters? You can’t take money from both parties for “fees” and then COMPLETELY REMOVE YOURSELF when something goes wrong. If a customer doesn’t have a pleasant experience, it is your responsibility to refund them. ESPECIALLY if they have proof of negligence, abuse, etc. You also need to protect your sitters or institute some kind of policy when we take an animal into our home and the animal ruins our property, harms us, or harms our own animals, because of the owners negligence. Your taking 20% of our earnings, the least you could do is protect us from harm & property damage. I have had multiple instances of owners telling me that their dog is not aggressive and a total sweetheart and then I spend the stay getting bit so hard it breaks the skin and leaves bruises. And for what? <$1 an hour? It’s not fair. I’ve had to deal with owners that tell me their dog is potty trained and then I spend my whole day cleaning up puddles of pee on my BRAND NEW HARDWOOD FLOORS, and throwing away comforters and sheets ( which are expensive) because the dog also had diarrhea, which the owner also neglected to tell me. Do you think the owner cared? Do you think the owner tried to replace it or give me any money for it? NO! Absolutely not, why would they if there’s no policy, or authority to tell them they have to. Now I’ve provided a hard days work, have been physically injured, my property destroyed, all for less than $1 an hour.

Hi Elaina,
Feedback from sitters like you is an important part of maintaining a quality experience for all users and we really appreciate you taking the time to share this information.
Pet sitters and dog walkers are the cornerstone of our business. Without their passion, hard work, and devotion to providing amazing pet care, we wouldn't be here. We're here to provide ongoing support and to help each individual grow their business—and we’re in it for the long haul. These fees help us do that, along with facilitating Rover’s customer support, 24/7 trust and safety coverage, and important site maintenance and product improvements. They also help cover benefits for sitters, including the costs of processing payments and ongoing promotion of sitters on Rover. In short, these fees help us build our business so we can keep on building yours.
We appreciate your feedback and hear your concerns. If there is anything we can help clarify for you, don’t hesitate to reach out. Rover Support is available 24/7 at 888-453-7889.

I find it very hard to get someone to take çare of my dogs. In the past I have contacted people who never get back to me and just leave me hanging.
Good people are few and far between.
I have now found reliable pet sitters and hopefully they will continue to pet sit for me and I do not have to use this service.

If you like last minute cancellations, then use Rover!
(I am only giving 2 stars because we have had a few excellent experiences in the past.) I booked a sitter July of 2018 for our Thanksgiving cruise. On October 18, 2018, he canceled because he did not realize it was during the holiday. I was unable to find a comparable replacement and had to have a stranger come over and check on our dog during our trip. I was willing to let that slide even though I was very upset. On 10/1, I attempted to book a sitter for a trip this Thanksgiving. A sitter agreed and we had a nice interaction, but I didn't completely book. She reached out to me on 10/18 to inform me that she couldn't watch my dog after all. I was able to book one more sitter who promised me he would not cancel. I booked, paid and I was pleased. I started reaching out to him 2 days before our trip and heard NOTHING. I attempted contact again the next day and still nothing. Rover tried to reach him and we ultimately had to cancel. The Rover rep was very nice, and tried very hard to help me find someone who would meet our needs, but came up with no solution. I got an I'm so sorry and a $20 credit. The other sitters who were "available" did not match my criteria- no kids, no pets, yard and 1 client at a time-, or wanted at least $50 per day. Traveling with a family is stressful enough, and not having anyone to take care of my dog is completely unacceptable! This is not my fault, but our entire family is being penalized. The least they could do is find a sitter and pay the difference. "Each sitter is an independent contractor, blah blah blah..." does not change my view of this service or the way that it is conducted, and doesn't help with my situation. Thanks for ruining our holiday 2 years in a row Rover. Way to go. Unbelievable.

Hello Chelle,
We're so sorry to hear about your experiences. We weren't able to locate your profile, so we do apologize that we can't speak to the specifics regarding these instances, but we do want to address your concerns as best we can with the information provided. Rover is a neutral third party platform that exists for sitters to advertise their services, set their own prices, schedules, and more. It is also in place to allow owners to search for sitters who best fit their needs. Should an unforeseen circumstance cause a sitter to no longer be available for a booked stay, we will do our best to locate a new care provider within a similar price range. Around the holidays the selection of sitters is often limited as many sitters do have holiday rates, or are unavailable as they are also spending the time with their families. We know that this does not change your experience, and do apologize for any frustration caused by your recent interactions, but hope this helps to address your concerns. If you have any other questions please don't hesitate to reach out. Our support team is available 24/7 at 888-453-7889.
Best,
Billie H.

Buyer beware
We booked a dog sitter to visit our house 2 times during a long day away at 30 minutes per visit for a total of $68. The dog sitter was nice and prompt; however, only stayed at our house for a total of 15 minutes per visit. We have a very high energy dog who needs exercise and I had made that clear ahead of time. Please know that when you book through Rover you are booking with a sitter and they do not address issues like this. I reached out to the sitter who was extremely defensive and felt she had done a fine job. I won't use this service again.

I was very happy with dugbuddy that we used to use, but then rover bought dugbuddy and then it went south.
Seems impossible to reach any one working at rover, and now when my dog keeper want to change the booking there is no one at rover who can help her.

This place is alright with setting you up with a couple clients but unfortunately they take a fat portion of the pay. Probably will post my own ad on Craigslist! Thanks anyways

Hello Sam, thank you so much for your feedback. Fees on Rover are in place to help with facilitating Rover’s customer support, 24/7 trust and safety coverage, and important site maintenance and product improvements. They also help cover benefits for sitters, including the costs of processing payments and ongoing promotion of sitters on Rover. Megan is a great dog walker and very active in communication. But she did loose my only key to my apartment on my last day while I was out of town. She called me to talk through her options, see if I had a spare anywhere and if I would help her pay for a pop-a-lock. I told her I would love to help her but I am in Dallas and I will not be able to help her replace my key.
