We were very unhappy with the service. Our dog didn't get taken out of house the entire time.

Property damage
My rating is based mostly because I found damage to my dining table and my bed which I believe there was an attempt to conceal the damage to my bed. It is 237$ for repair of bed and don't believe I can fix by table.

My wife and I had used Rover for a long…
My wife and I had used Rover for a long time with great results. However, YOU HAVE TO BEWARE OF POTENTIAL THEFT when you allow strangers to dog sit/dog walk at your house when you are away. Partly my fault, but I had $3,000 in an envelope buried at the bottom of my sock drawer (from horse bet winnings, I usually don't have that much cash on hand) that was stolen by a Rover dog sitter. I know this because the Rover sitter was the only person in our house on the weekend that it disappeared (we have 2 cameras on the interior of our house, unfortunately neither were in the room the cash was stolen in, plus a Ring doorbell camera). And the Rover sitter was a highly reviewed (over 100 5star reviews) dog sitter who we had previously used three times before. She was supposed to come to our house 3 times a day for 30 minute visits during the subject weekend to let our dogs out (but she stayed for 5 hours, according to our cameras, the day before we got back into town). And theft is NOT covered by Rover. So the only option I would have had is to file a police report concerning stolen CASH, which I know would go nowhere. I understand this is partly my fault for being too trusting. But the point is, if you are allowing a stranger into your home off of Rover while you are away, PLEASE make sure that any and all cash, jewelry and other valuables that could easily be stolen are locked away in a safe place. We don't do the in-house visits anymore because of this one bad experience, just the boarding at the sitter's house, and we have not had a bad experience on that end yet.

AVOID! Misleading app
I used Rover for the first time this month. I was traveling out of town and needed someone to watch my cat for 2 days/2 nights. For those unfamiliar with the app, there are many services you can book including "house sitting", "check ins", and "dog walking" to name a few. Unfortunately - my experience is that these designations mean VERY little to the sitters Rover employs.
I booked (and paid a much higher fee for) a sitter to HOUSE SIT my cat (months in advance of my trip), making very clear the expectations of how long my pet should be left alone. My cat is pretty social and is used to a lot of people, so I wanted to find someone willing to not leave her alone all day.
Now, a few days prior to my flight out, the sitter came over for a meet and greet with my cat. Unfortunately at this time she mentioned that she would actually barely be at home at all, dropping in a few times. In addition, she explained she did not plan on staying overnight. I was flabbergasted by this, and ended up just begging her to stay (which I really shouldn't have had to do, but it being so last minute I did not want to be without a sitter entirely).
Because of the Ring cameras in my home, it came to my attention that the sitter did leave my cat alone for longer than I had requested and although I cannot confirm this, I highly suspect she did not actually stay overnight as I had asked her to.
Overall, this was a very negative experience and I do not plan on using this app again. If I am booking a house sitting, and paying more for this service, why are sitters not planning on staying overnight? It appears the expectations set by the app are inconsistent. For this reason, I wouldn't trust finding a sitter on Rover in the future.

A bad experience
When looking for a cat sitter to make a series of 30min drop-in visits for my young and unusually social cat, I chose someone who, with >100 glowing reviews, seemed like a no-brainer. What actually happened was that this sitter visited for <10min each time, and logged that they were present for the full 30min. Without door sensors and cameras I never would have known. Were the basic caretaking tasks done? Yes. Was this a deceptive breach of trust? Also yes.
Rover has a convenient service, and I can't judge them on one bad experience. But if a pet sitter with this sort of behavior can have such a stellar reputation, something is wrong with their review system.

The app seems to have many bugs
The app seems to have many bugs. It’s very difficult to finally get to the “contact us” to request help. They advertise 24/7 support but there’s no number to call. I can’t find the rover sitter I previously hearted when I search for them by name. It’s very difficult to modify a request if you’ve selected the wrong service. Frequent “permission denied” links when you try to reply to a message.

The mechanism to interview sitters is…
The mechanism to interview sitters is awkward and outdated. There’s no ability to advertise a job then interview sitters. You must create a job THEN send it to ONE sitter, even if you really just want a meet and greet to see if you’re a good fit.
