The lady I used ended up being a horrible communicator. She did not update me about my dog like she should have & did not answer my messages for over 24 or a couple times over 48 hours. My dog was not eating well & they gave him none of his doggy treats. They did not walk him even once over 11 days & no trips to the dog park which was very close by. I will never use her again. I was desperate to find someone as my normal Rover sitter was gone on vacation. I feel like this sitter probably has other bad reviews but they aren’t posted for some reason. They have a lot of pets & too many that they were babysitting. I really feel like they are doing it purely for the money & don’t care about other people’s pets. I just wanted to get my little guy picked up & back home. So it’s not like I could complain to her before I picked him up. He definitely has some PTSD from being over there & also he lost weight.

Too many unreliable pet sitters are on…
Too many unreliable pet sitters are on Rover
When I used Rover before the pandemic started, I found good sitters who were responsible and knew how to handle dogs.
When the pandemic started, we moved and since then, I have tried 4 sitters from Rover and 3 of them should never be pet sitters at all. My guess is that people started to work from home and thought this was an easy side hustle.
Rover does not vet its sitters and will accept anyone. One sitter was a woman in her late seventies or eighties, living alone with 2 dogs of her own. I saw that when she stood up quickly, she felt faint and needed at least 15 minutes to recover. She was sitting for upto 6 or 7 dogs at a time including her own.
One woman left my dog who is not crate trained, alone at her home, in her dog’s crate, and went away with her family and her own dog for a few hours. She admitted herself that she came back when she saw on the camera that my dog was biting the cage and was going crazy. She was probably afraid that I would notice the blood on my dog’s gums.
Another sitter complained that my dog sniffed all over his house and “missed you too much”. That was the reason he gave for not wanting to sit for her a second time. He was okay with coming to my house twice a day to walk her. It occurred to me that he didn’t want my dog because she couldn’t stay crated.
All these people send beautiful photos and write gushing texts to the pet parents. In reality, my guess is that only a few will tolerate having other people’s pets roaming all over their pristine homes. People prefer Rover because they don’t want their pets in cages or crates and think that their pets are spending the time in another home. The sitters want to give this impression but I know that this is far from true.
Every time my dog came back with diarrhea. The only time this didn’t happen was the last time with Priscilla and Jedediah. I have heard of sitters on Rover who have lost the dogs they were supposed to be looking after. I am not surprised as most of them seem to be thoroughly unprofessional and irresponsible.
Rover’s insurance means nothing to me if my dog is injured or lost. And I have heard that, like AirBnB, Uber, etc., it’s very difficult to actually get any compensation from Rover if things go wrong. And money will never compensate for a hurt or lost pet.

We are so sorry that this was your experience!
All sitters on Rover must pass a background check before they can start to promote their business. To ensure that sitters meet our community standards, we hand review each profile and offer educational resources to help them succeed. Please see this link for more info (http://bit.ly/3363Snu).
Rover’s top priorities are the safety of our stays and the professionalism of our sitters. When we hear any report of the contrary, our Trust & Safety and Support teams are here to address concerns and take swift action to ensure our stays are as successful as possible. If you have concerns about a service providers care, please make sure you reach out to 888-727-1140.
In order to ensure a successful stay, we highly recommend that sitters conduct Meet & Greets prior to bookings, especially with first-time boarders. This is a great opportunity to ask questions to inform care and assess if the stay is a good fit. Please see this link for more info http://bit.ly/2m7fU04
Most pets experience diarrhea during times of stress and upheaval; including when changing households or missing their people. Unfortunately, pets don't always understand that you will be coming back for them and this is just a vacation! An upset tummy often follows this transition, and if your pet is especially prone we suggest warning your sitter this is a typical habit with your pet.
The Rover Guarantee is in place to assist in those rare times something goes wrong during your booking. Covering accidents and injuries for your pet should anything go wrong is part of how we ensure safety on our platform. We hope you never need to become familiar with it's terms, but you can review them if you would like here: https://www.rover.com/rover-guarantee/
If you have any further concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out to our 24/7 Support Team any time at 1-888-453-7889.

I am a new Rover customer and had a very discouraging experience. The provider never answered her door to receive my dog on the scheduled date. I knocked and rang the bell for 15 minutes before giving up and heading home. I had contractors in the house all day and had to sit in my back yard with the dog for the full day because the dog sitter "over slept" her alarm. I sent a message to Rover.com about the experience and wanting to make certain I wasn't charged for the day. I never heard from them. I'm not certain I will use this service again.

No transparency
My sitter is awesome, no doubt about it. Now, the Rover site is not transparent at all.
Holiday rates are being applied to bookings date ranges that include a holiday date, even if services aren't being provided on the holiday. And the page does not says that to you. I requested a sitter for 14 days and only the last day was in a holiday and because of that only day, my entire booking of 14 days was charged as holiday. Even my sitter was surprised to learned about this. This is not transparency at all.

Our team received your feedback and we’re sorry about any difficulties. Holiday dates are determined by Rover to make sure that sitters are paid fairly during peak times of the year, however your service provider can alter the stay's price at their own choosing as they set their own rates. Next time you’re looking for assistance, feel free to give our Rover Support team a call at 888-453-7889 and we’d be happy to help.

Three different Rover & Boarding experiences
I had so far three different experiences with Rover.
1) First one was good although I thought overnight boarding was a bit too steep. But it was nearby where I live and for the convenience sake, I went with it. It turned out okay...still quite expensive for only 2 night stay.
2) Second, as I was preparing to move across the town, I was looking for a boarding for a week. I went 25 miles away from the home location just to do the 'meet and greet' and the Rover was nice and friendly and after seeing my pup, she accepted to take care of him. So I went ahead and paid and was getting to have my pup ready. But she messaged me back saying she was not comfortable with my pup, a second thought (for the size of my pup... 90lbs....he is way larger than she can handle...) and wanted to refund the money in full. I accepted and went to look for another boarding place.
3) So after the above 2) episode, I got busy screening many and exchanging messages, I then came to select one Rover located 25+ miles away from my old home location but I figured, after the move, 25+ miles will only be 10 miles from the new place.
I messaged her to see if she would want to do the 'meet & greet' but she claimed she has read the profile of my pup and that was enough and was excited to take in my pup for a week. I paid in full obviously and dropped him off in the afternoon at her place and, only a few hours later, I get a phone call saying my pup bit her fiance. However, no skin was broken therefore no blood when I asked. But she wanted me to pick up my pup right away. Then she said I could pick him up on next day by 10 am. She then claims she does not know how to process the refund that I need to to Rover.com and ask... When I told her I already PAID and you GOT the money from me, you will need to process the refund back to me. She said she will find out how and will let me know. Roughly 24 hours later, I got her message through Rover.com stating she is keeping almost all of it except she will only refund 2-night worth from my pre-paid payment.
In a nutshell, I felt cheated on and tricked on and I suspect she might be doing this often enough that she would come up with some excuses why she cannot take care of some pups and will refuse to give the money back to the pup owner. I have never had this type of experience ever before. This did put bad taste in my mouth. I will NOT even consider this Rover. If I can block it, I would.
In the meantime, I was able to locate another sitter/boarder and she was far less expensive and never found anyone that dedicated with doing all the right things with the pups; going to off-leash parks all over with 4-5 dogs at a time. She is the on and only that I am going to trust with my pup.
I count my blessing everyday.
