We were able to connect with a great sitter who did an excellent job for us. However, the app itself leaves something to be desired. I often had a hard time getting back to my messages if there was not a new message to click on. Trying to put in an accurate ask is kind of hard too, because you have to go through their pre-set request list. Overall, it was great to have a sitter who could come to our home and I'm so glad the service is available, but the app needs a little work.

Don't think the app is the easiest to use. Wish it had a standard inbox that you could see all messages in, sometimes it's hard to find unread messages.
Also annoying that you can't see the final fee inclusive of Rover fee before sending the booking request.

The site is difficult to navigate
The site is difficult to navigate and a lot of sitters either don’t respond or take a long time to do so. When you are looking at specific dates time is critical

I tried using rover on my iPad and laptop. Didn't work. Finally I used the app on my cell phone. That worked. I'm not that person who has my cell phone in my hand all day. That was annoying to have to communicate only through an app. My dog sitter was awesome though!

No responses or not timely responses
No responses or not timely responses. Right on Rover was not consistent with what they told me and Services said they did overnights when in fact they did not.

Less happy talk, more refinement needed
Let's be clear; this is a rating of Rover as a service, not a rating of the sitter who kept my dog for a partial daycare day. This rating of Rover is based on a fairly frustrating couple of years of using their platform.
1. I don't like the fact that I have to pick a specific date for services in order to view what sitters are in my area. With a sensitive dog like I have, I do not pre-plan events without knowing that I have a good sitter to leave her with. So, if I'm hoping to take a weekend vacation, I will tailor those dates to when the best sitter is available. Therefore I want to be able to search all sitters in my area, regardless of date, and choose a sitter based on their compatibility with my dog. When one searches by different dates, different sitters will come up depending of course on their availability. So I am never sure if I have really checked out all sitters in my area to find the best one for my dog.
2. Rover's interface is not the easiest to use. I have been searching for sitters and doing meet and greets for a couple of years. I just figured out that to schedule a meet and greet, you have to actually book a service first. Again, Rover has this backwards. I want to be able to schedule a meet and greet before ever bothering to book a service. And again, with a sensitive dog, I don't want to book and then have to cancel if a meet and greet doesn't go well.
3. Rover shows some sitters in my area as available for specific dates until I click through to contact them and discover that they are not accepting new clients. I don't like having to remember to check that first before reading their whole profile to see if they are a fit. If Rover is going to allow sitters to be available exclusively to repeat clients, then they need a separate section of the site for this purpose. I don't want to read about a sitter and get my hopes up only to find that they are not really available for the date that I made up to start with just to be able to do the search.
4. I was just reminded, due to a comment on one of Rover's Facebook ads, that the state of North Carolina requires anyone who boards dogs in their home to have a state license to do so. I have done meet and greets with a number of sitters and not one of them has ever offered to show me their license, or mentioned it in their profile, meaning most of them are probably at best unaware they need to get this credential. Rover should take responsibility for knowing what credentials sitters need at the state level in all states where it operates, and inform the sitters when they sign up.
5. Again because I have a sensitive dog, she needs to be eased into new situations. However Rover's pricing models for sitters don't accommodate the fact that it may be too long for many dogs to be left for an entire day in a new environment. I have no choice but to pay for a full daycare day to test the waters even though I am only leaving my dog for 2-3 hours to start with. Most group dog daycares that are run as standalone businesses have half day rates. Ideally for my dog I should do this several times before leaving her for a full day. This is too expensive but I have no choice if I find a good sitter and want to take my dog there again.
6. Most of my criticisms above are based on one fundamental fact which is that Rover to date has not put any effort or money into asking for user feedback, thinking critically about the user's online experience, or any updating or improvement to their original platform model which has some serious flaws.

Sitters bring their own pets??
I put out several request for housesitting with my 5 cats. and half of them got back to me about having their dog coming with them on the overnight! This is ludicrous
