My puppy went missing while under the sitter’s care. The most heartbreaking part was discovering that the sitter had no idea he was even missing—I had to be the one to tell her. Thankfully, a kind stranger found him on the road and brought him to safety. Even now, after 10 days, the case filed regarding this incident remains unresolved.

Concerns Regarding Rover’s Vetting Policies, Review Transparency and Support Response
I experienced an extremely disappointing sitter experience that left my pets traumatized and subsequently contacted Rover, in addition to leaving a review for the sitter on the platform.
I received a response from a Rover representative whose “suggestions” came across as implying that responsibility for the situation somehow fell on me, or that I had not taken every reasonable step to secure the best possible sitter. In reality, the opposite is true.
Before booking, I researched well over 50 “verified” sitters, contacted multiple candidates, and arranged an in-home meet-and-greet that lasted approximately three hours. During that meeting, I thoroughly reviewed detailed care instructions for both pets. As outlined in my review, I also emailed written instructions, texted additional information and photos, and left two printed copies in the home for easy reference.
There is also a serious concern that I intentionally left out of my public review but feel should be addressed directly with Rover. During our conversation upon returning home, the sitter disclosed that he had received a negative review on his very first Rover booking. However, his profile displayed only 5-star reviews. Naturally, this raised concerns regarding transparency within Rover’s review system, as this information would have significantly influenced our decision-making process and allowed us to ask more informed questions beforehand.
I understand the representative’s response was likely based on a standardized template; however, given the seriousness of the issues we experienced, the response felt dismissive and further reinforced my concerns regarding Rover’s vetting process, review transparency, and customer support practices.
When I raised additional concerns, the representative explained that, in an effort to promote honest reviews and protect community privacy, Rover aggregates star ratings and does not share individual ratings for specific bookings. According to the representative, this policy is intended to maintain a fair environment while protecting customer confidentiality.
However, I contested that even a single 1-star review should materially affect an aggregate rating. Presenting a sitter as maintaining a perfect 5.0 rating despite a prior negative review is, in my opinion, both misleading and lacking in transparency. Additionally, I believe prior negative reviews should be available for prospective customers to evaluate so they can make informed decisions for themselves.
The representative ultimately stated that my concerns would be formally documented, but no further action would be taken.
Unfortunately, this experience has left me with very little confidence in the platform, to the point that I am now exploring alternative companies for future pet care services.

Rover sends endless emails
The sitter was awesome. As soon as I returned, Rover wouldn’t stop emailing me about referrals, and reviews. I wished they would eliminate these emails.

First time using Rover and sitter did…
First time using Rover and sitter did terrible job caring for my dogs. Left dogs alone for 9 hours when instructed not to do that. She left bed she slept in filthy. I posted my review and then I got call and harassed bc I had video cameras in my home to record sitter so she wasn’t happy about that. But yet my account got closed and I got no compensation for poor quality of care I paid for!

The worst sitter
The worst sitter. I signed up for "House Sitting" my dogs were alone most of the time. My neighbor had to step in. My dogs were fed to early so the sitter could leave and found by my neighbor with no water in their bowls.

Don't Use Rover
Did a meet and greet with the last Rover that I had to ensure our dogs got along before booking. During my dogs stay, she had at least 4 dogs staying with her that she had not disclosed to me. Greated a bad environment for my dog. When I reported it to Rover they did nothing. Would not use this service again.

Hi Emily, thank you for sharing this feedback. We're sorry this was your experience. While some sitters do book multiple dogs at once, and others only take on one dog at a time, this is something that should be explained to a pet owner at the time of booking. We'd like another chance to look into this for you and ensure the proper coaching happens for this sitter. Please don't hesitate to reach out to our Trust and Safety team at (888) 727-1140. -Brittney

Cat sitters are not important for Rover :(
Since Cat in a Flat merged with Rover, the platform has become extremely disappointing for cat sitters. Since moving to Rover, I haven’t received a single request despite having experience, availability, and positive reviews.
It feels like cat sitters have been completely overlooked in favour of dog services, and the app no longer supports smaller pet care providers the way Cat in a Flat did. The merger has made it much harder to connect with clients, and overall visibility for cat sitters seems nonexistent.
Very frustrating experience and a huge step backwards compared to the original platform.

Hi Eva, thanks for reaching out to share this feedback. This isn't the experience we want for cat sitters on Rover, and we are actively looking into ways we can improve. If you have any additional feedback, questions, or simply would like to ensure that your profile is live and viewable, Rover Support is available 24/7 at (888) 453 - 7889. -Brittney
