Dissapointing
If you do get someone to respond, it is impossible to contact them, so disappointing.

The app is hard to use and slow to work. The sitters are slow to respond and often ghost the requester. Rover seems uninterested in improving because there have been little if any improvements in the last 5 years.

[FINAL UPDATE 7/15] Rover’s Trust & Safety team is now displaying a shocking lack of logical resolution and contradiction. While they issued a full 100% refund and acknowledged the sitter’s negligence regarding Charlie’s injury, Rover is now refusing to remove the provably false and retaliatory review left by that same sitter on my profile. According to Rover’s own Terms of Service (Section 4.1), they reserve the right to remove reviews that are "intentionally inaccurate or misleading." By issuing a full refund, Rover already validated that the sitter was at fault and lied about the incident. Yet, their support team claims they cannot remove the review because it represents the sitter's "personal experience." This is a blatant administrative failure. Rover protects dishonest sitters under the guise of "free speech" while penalizing responsible pet owners who pay a 20% commission. If you are an owner, be aware that even if you prove a sitter lied and get a full refund, Rover will still let that malicious review ruin your profile history. Truly disappointed. [UPDATE 6/28] Rover’s Trust & Safety team has officially resolved this case. While the initial email complaint process was frustrating and slow to respond, everything changed once the actual Safety Team stepped in. They took Charlie’s situation seriously, stated that appropriate actions have been taken based on their investigation, and processed a 100% full refund. I appreciate that Rover ultimately took accountability and handled this properly !! [UPDATE 6/18] Rover's social media team left a generic reply to this review telling me to call their hotline, but they have still NOT reached out to my registered email or given me a single update on my official ticket. They care more about looking responsive in public comments than actually investigating pet neglect behind the scenes. I am still waiting for a real human investigator to contact my email. ---------------------- Not recommended. Bad customer support and unsafe platform system. I am deeply disappointed with Rover’s system and their lack of responsiveness. I hired a sitter with good ratings and reviews on this platform, but she completely neglected my dog Charlie, leaving him covered in caked-on diarrhea until his bottom became severely inflamed with painful hot spots. Even worse, she actively hid his condition and didn't mention the diarrhea at all during the stay(7days). When I submitted a complaint to Rover's safety team with clear photo evidence, Rover remained completely unresponsive and slow to act. All I have received was a generic, robotic auto-reply. No one from Rover has assigned a real investigator, updated me on the progress, or even given me a timeline for this case. Having a 'high rating' on this app means nothing if Rover doesn't audit their sitters or protect pets when negligence happens. Do not trust their review system. This complete lack of professional communication and delayed response is unacceptable for a safety matter. I expect a prompt update from a live human agent regarding this.

The sitter and I changed the start time by 9 hours. The company refused to give me a refund. So you should know that your not allowed to change your time or you will not be compensated. This was about $50.00. Also I tried over and over to call customer service without being able to connect. I connected on line - probably though a bot and was told we don't refund for changed time. I will not use rover again

Hi Barbara, thank you so much for the review. We understand that the stay started 9 hours later than originally planned, however pet care providers charge by the number of nights that they're providing care, they do not charge by the number of hours that they are providing care. Unless the amount of nights changed, we are unable to provide a refund. Please don't hesitate to contact Rover Support if you have any additional questions. -JC

As a dog walker in the UK my experience of Rover is that it takes your money and gives you zero work. I get work through other sites though. I would never recommend Rover

I am a cat owner and sitter who has been left frustrated by the merger between Cat in a Flat and Rover. Rover is a dog brand and treats cats, their owners and sitters as second class to the dogs they clearly love. The app hounds you if you don't reply to someone within an hour. I was out for dinner with my partner last night and received a booking request. I obviously wasnt checking my phone, then 45 minutes later I get a push notification to my watch asking why I hadn't replied to the booking. The fees are higher as well, so cat sitters are paying more than they were on Cat in a Flat. The fees are often also hidden so they don't know the reality of what they're paying until they go to confirm a booking. Their 'Star Sitter' programme means that cat sitters who are close to your address don't actually show up as nearest to you - it's the people who have racked up lots of points with Rover (who usually charge more and have been on the app longer) who do, even if they live miles away. Giving serious consideration to leaving the app, it's made pet sitting a gameified experience and it's not why I went into cat sitting as a side job.

Othon
My dog became seriously ill during the boarding stay and required emergency veterinary treatment. Given that the symptoms began while she was under the sitter's care, I do not believe Rover has adequately considered its responsibility in this situation.
