My pets deserved better. Rover failed at every step.
I trusted Rover to care for my pets while I was away, and instead I came home to one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve ever had with a pet care service.
I booked five scheduled visits with a sitter. Before the booking, we met in person and clearly agreed on the visit times and exactly what would be done during each visit. None of those expectations were met.
The sitter arrived more than two hours late to every scheduled feeding. When you’re caring for animals, feeding times aren’t optional. They’re important. Despite that, Rover considered this acceptable.
The sitter also failed to complete basic agreed-upon tasks. Wet food was left sitting on paper plates on my floor for over 24 hours instead of being cleaned up after each visit. Used litter waste was tied in a bag and left inside my apartment instead of being taken outside as we had discussed.
The most unbelievable part happened before the job was even finished. We still had one scheduled visit remaining, yet I received a message saying my house keys and key fob had been returned to the lockbox. The problem? The key fob is required to enter my building. By locking everything away early, the sitter made it impossible to complete the final visit without accessing the lockbox again. I never authorized my keys to be returned early.
When I contacted Rover, I expected accountability. Instead, I got delays, canned responses, and offers of account credit instead of actually addressing what happened. A credit is meaningless when the issue is the welfare of my pets and the complete lack of professionalism shown throughout this booking.
After days of getting nowhere, I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Even then, Rover’s response ignored many of the issues I raised and focused on offering compensation instead of acknowledging the failures in service or explaining how this would be prevented in the future.
Rover markets itself as a trusted platform for pet care. My experience was anything but trustworthy. If sitters can repeatedly arrive hours late, fail to perform agreed-upon care, abandon basic cleaning responsibilities, return access keys before services are complete, and Rover still refuses to meaningfully address the situation, then pet owners should think carefully before trusting this platform.
My pets deserved reliable care. I deserved the service I paid for. We received neither. I will never use Rover again, and I cannot recommend them to anyone who expects dependable care for their animals.

I’m a dog sitter and I still haven’t…
I’m a dog sitter and I still haven’t been paid for a booking that finished last Saturday, so I just wanted to check why.
I spoke to Renabel, but I only kept getting generic answers saying that payments are available for withdrawal “two days after you have successfully completed the service with the pet.” I repeatedly explained that the service was successfully completed last Saturday, and I’m actually looking after the same dog again tomorrow, but I still couldn’t get a clear answer.
I was then told I could contact the service phone number, but no one answered the phone.
I genuinely don’t usually have the energy, or can’t be bothered, to leave bad reviews and normally just forget about it, but this has been frustrating and unhelpful.
At this point, I feel like I’d have been better off talking to a wall than expecting any actual advice or support from Rover Support/Renabel.

Rover banned my account and suspended…
Rover banned my account and suspended my sitter, claiming my review and booking to be false, just because we are next-door neighbors. This app has terrible customer service, no way to get ahold of anyone to restore either of our accounts. My neighbor has always watched my dog when I go out for the weekend and she just started using Rover so I hired her through the app as she just started her Dinner Rover sitting service, and then Rover banned us both which is unfair and frustrating because now I can't even access other sitters if she is not available when my dog needs to be watched. Shame on you Rover and your terrible treatment of customers and sitters, I guess I'll have to try Wag or some other app that hopefully respects their customers and sitters. Awful customer service that we cannot even get ahold of anyone to resolve and our emails go untesponded to.

THIS CORPORATION STINKS. THANK GOD THEIR SITTERS DON'T EMULATE THE CORPORATION'S VALUES.
My sitter gets ONE HUNDRED stars. But the way the Rover corporation handled my inquiry asking them to cover the cost of extra flea meds when my dog, who has received topical prescription flea meds every three months her entire life and remained FLEA-FREE for more than 15.5 years, "coincidentally" came home from her boarder's with fleas, was unprofessional, upsetting, and, quite frankly, cheap. I now know that Rover is run by the same kinds of people who run Uber (and that is NOT a compliment) and that this corporation will do everything possible to take absolutely no responsibility for unexpected events that happen while a pet is being boarded through their organization. They are there to take our money. Period. After that, Adios! I now know what to expect from the Rover corporation: NOTHING. Thank God my sitter's sense of responsibility and character is exponentially greater than that of the moneygrabbers who run this company. (BTW, have some respect for your customers: [1] You're an American company who only provides customer service via the Philippines? That is just plain RUDE. [2] You tell your reps to tell your customers that pet-owners are required to make a $250 "contribution" toward the cost of unexpected events that take place while our pets are being boarded? A "Contribution" is voluntary. This is NOT voluntary. If another dog attacks my dog while under a Rover sitter's care, Rover makes it MANDATORY that I pay the first $250 toward her vet bills. That is not a "contribution." That is a DEDUCTIBLE. [3] Take a listen to how chewy.com deals with its customers. You might learn how to treat your pet parents with some decency and respect. I doubt it, but it's worth a shot.)
