I used to dog sit through dogvacay.com and when Rover bought dogvacay I didn't have a choice- either move to Rover or they would remove your profile. After moving over to Rover it's one issue after another... From my profile not transferring correctly, to unacceptable wait times for their robotic (not personal) customer service, to payments being delayed- I don't plan on using Rover for my dog sitting or walking services after I have completed my last 2 bookings that I made through Rover. & it's one of the worst companies I've dealt with. Definitely the worst customer service I have ever experienced! That's REALLY bad.

Not that reliable
I've tried using Rover/DOG VACA several times. THe first time I contacted many potential sitter who supposedly were free during my vacation period. About half never responded to my query. The other half were not free during my vacation period. Come to find out, they don't keep their calendar current.
The next time I tried to use this service (contacted someone my neighbors recommended as reliable), I tried to set up a meet and greet first. The potential sitter put me off for 2 weeks - out of town, vacation, etc. We set up a time to meet in 2 weeks. I emailed her through Rover 3 days before the meeting. No response. I called her the afternoon before our meeting and she said OK, we could keep the meet and greet appointment for the next morning. Well, you've guessed it by now I'm sure. One hour before the appointment, she calls and says she's "sick" and cancels. She says she will call me when she feels better to set-up another meeting. Crickets........... I'm still waiting, not. Someone this unreliable can't be trusted with my dog. How much vetting does Rover do? Do they monitor how fast and if their people respond to emails?

Hi Jane,
Thank you for letting us know about this. I’m so sorry that the sitters you contacted weren’t a good fit. Our sitter team works hard to review every sitter before their profiles are live on the site and we always want to know if there are any concerns about sitters. We’d love the opportunity to discuss your experience and follow up with the sitter. If you’d ever like help finding a reliable sitter, we’re also here for you 24/7. We want your next Rover stay to be great, so please reach out whenever is convenient for you.
All the best,

rover :( Bad Dog !!
To read all the negative reviews about rover sitters, customer service, ect. is just sickening! The fact that they don't vet potential sitters is horrifying! DOGVACAY did ! Sitting for a Cause does!! rover is bottom line($) focused. While the CEO sits in his ivory tower and does nothing about the abuse of other peoples animals. How would he feel if his dog, Caramel, was mistreated ? Well, that would be a different story wouldn't it ?!
rover has become like most start up companies. They made the big time, and now don't care. They lost touch with the people and what they want. RESPECTABLE, COMPASSIOANTE CARE FOR THEIR PETS !!
Many sitters are uneducated in dog care and do this for the $. It's very hard to find one that really cares for the dogs 1st, and then the $. Most of them have a million children running around and your dog will end up being low on the totem pole.
I am a former DOGVACAY host, nearly since the beginning of their launch. The merge has sickened me. I know of rovers past and that's why I never signed up with them. Even though they are a Seattle based company. I am a Seattleite, a real one ! Been here all my life.
DOGVACAY was compassionate, excellent sitter/customer support. I NEVER had an issue with them. There site was easy to use.
DOGVACAY'S CEO, Arron H. now has a seat on rovers board. I hope his heart breaks as he watches rover abuse this kind of business. He has joined the evil side !!!
Did anyone watch the Town Meeting with rover/DOGVACAY ? Did you see the difference in body language between the two CEO's ? I did!! To me it looked like an angel (DOGVACAY) sitting next to the devil(rover). At one point DOGVACAY was talking and then rover tapped his pen very loudly, several times, on the table. Who does that? Some who is passive aggressive to the opposing team. DOGVACAY was bright eyed, smiling, very positive. rover was, well, NOT !!!
Hey DOGVACAY Arron... do you really think he is your friend ? You'll find out you just made a deal with the devil !!!
Hey DOGVACAY Arron.....we all hope you decide to come out of the pit of hell and start up a new company!!!
As for me, no way am I merging with the devil !!
PEOPLE....there is another way. CONSIDER Sitting for a Cause. You'll find me there if you are in the Seattle area. I do this business for the love of the dogs. Not for the money ! We have a beautiful home environment and a strong client base. We do this right. Your dog will never escape from our care or eat a sock and die. We don't have children !! Your dog is 1st in our book !!!
DOGVACAY IS DEAD !!!
Lets move on !!

MY DOG WAS DEAD 19MIN AFTER I LEFT HER
MY DOG WAS DEAD 19 MINUTES AFTER I DROPPED HER OFF. I received a message from the sitter that my dog had escaped from her harness and was on the run. A few minutes later I received a message from a women who found my dead dog in the street, moved her to the grass on the side and called my phone number from her collar. I picked my dogs broken body off the street corner, took her to my vet, and missed my flight to CA for a graduation and engagement party.
I decided to try Rover.com because my dog was afraid of boarding kennels since my other dog died. She was fine when she used to be boarded with her brother. I thought this would be a less stressful situation for her. Now she is dead.
If you are a dog owner: Realize being a “dog lover” is not an adequate qualification to watch you precious pet. Leave the safety, care and security of your pets to professionals. Or be prepared to live with the guilt and grief that may result by your decision to use a service like Rover.com.
If you are an in home pet sitter : Be prepared to be unintentionally responsible for the insurmountable grief you may cause if something happens to the pet in your care. Because you really are not qualified for that responsibility.
If you are Rover.com “support” staff: Sending an email expressing condolences is appreciated. When in that email you offer to cover “financial burdens” then keep your promise. I replied that I had to pay a change fee for my airline ticket and 24.00 for cremation. Then to be told that NO they really didn’t mean any financial burden, because the fact that this tragedy caused me to miss my flight was not covered. They would cover the cremation charge. Six days later I am still receiving daily emails requesting more detailed information on my receipt I attached.
You contributed to my grief by the constant emails. A daily reminder that my decision to use your service resulted in my dog dying. I now feel harassed by the interrogation over the cremation charges. FOR 24.00!!! Disgraceful.

DO NOT USE!
DO NOT USE!
Within only a few hours my dog got loose from the sitter and was lost for over 12 hrs in pouring rain and 40 degree temperatures.
I miraculously found him myself the next morning.
AWFUL COMPANY

Hard and confusing to use site
Hard and confusing to use site. I have a pet sitting need other than what is listed as choices. I don't understand this. Not happy with my first time using this site.

My dog was abused
I left my sweet dog in the care of some random through this website, only to find that my dog was given to me wet as he had bathed him multiple times without my consent. I have absolutely no idea what this disgusting human did but my dog ended up having a fever and a severe eye infection in both eyes the next day which costed me hundreds of dollars in vet fees. My dog may or may not lose his eye sight at the age of four ages old because of the mistreatment he received during his four day stay. I am absolutely disgusted that this person is allowed to look after other peoples dogs while he essentially abuses them. I am now in the process of requesting that he is banned, that these people are properly vetted if they are to look after other peoples dogs and to obtain a full refund in both sitter payment and vet fees.
My heart is absolutely broken.

Hi Zara,
We are so sorry to hear that this was your experience. As dog lovers ourselves, we expect the highest level of care from the sitters who offer services through Rover, and it sounds like that bar was missed this time around. Our Trust & Safety team is currently investigating this situation and remains available to answer any questions you may have—please do not hesitate to let the team members you have been speaking with know.
All the best,

Will never use Rover again
I will never use Rover again after my recent experience with them. I booked a weekend stay at a sitter’s apartment through Rover while I went away for a wedding, and my dog had a suspected anaphylactic reaction to something on a walk with the sitter. She was taken to an emergency vet hospital and Rover put down a $1,500 deposit for any care needed there. I was on a flight and unavailable, by the time i got updated the vet hospital had already run up an insane bill in testing and interventions without my consent. My dog was kept over night and released to a new sitter because I was concerned as to what she was exposed to under the care of the sitter. Rover then said this was all my responsibility because allergies were considered a pre-existing condition. This had never happened to my dog before. Rover’s customer service was terrible to deal with, and I was left with the total vet bill, full of testing that I never would have consented for. Looking out for other conservative pet owners, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
Response from Rover.com | Pet SittingApr 18, 2017
Hi Jamie,
We’re so glad to learn Rue recovered from her allergic reaction and sincerely sorry to have caused additional frustration. Pet safety is always our top priority, and in this specific case, veterinary care was needed immediately. Because Rue’s illness was not a direct cause of the care provided by your sitter, it unfortunately isn’t covered by insurance. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our Trust & Safety team.
Take care,
Kate
