Cool concept but bad execution
Cool concept but bad execution. I have never had a pleasant experience on Rover, mainly due to their horrible sitters. Here's the thing, you can't rate the sitters until after your pet has stayed with them, which I believe does not give you the full view of what the sitter can be like. Recently, I contacted a sitter in Brooklyn that sounded great through "verified reviews". She responded to my messages promptly in the beginning of our conversations and I felt confident I finally found a reliable person. The day we set up a meet & greet, it started to down pour 30 minutes prior to our meet time. I sent her a message asking if we could reschedule, since I figured neither of us would have fun walking around with my wet dog in the rain. She responded right away that it was no problem to reschedule, and then never responded to me again.... I contacted Rover (three times, the first two messages I sent them they did not respond to) and they told me that their sitters are "independent contractors" and they have no real control over what they do.... that line sounds scary, like 'we're not liable for what they do to you or your pet'. I also had a different sitter that was super communicative prior to my pet's stay, and then became MIA while she had my dog in her care. Fortunately, in that situation, the sitter just sucked at paying attention to my dog and worked all day, so she "didn't have time to respond to my texts." The situation could have been worse, but still not acceptable in my book. Rover's biggest competition are the traditional pet sitting companies, especially the ones that come to your home to walk/feed, or bring your pet to their homes. I have to say, although those pet sitting companies are usually a bit more expensive, they ALWAYS come through professionally... they respond to requests, communicate, they're bonded/insured, and ALWAYS keep me updated without me asking. Rover leaves much to be desired and if they really want to compete, they need to take more responsibility for their sitters and fire the bad ones.

Hi Kat, We are so sorry to hear that this was your experience. We expect a high level of service and care from the sitters on Rover and it sounds like these sitters fell short—please know that this is not the typical Rover experience.
