Well Rover took over doggy vacay. My dog sitter who is now with Rover because Rover took over everything from vacay did not take appropriate actions at a dog park and my dog bit a small dog. She switched phones so that what she text me wood not be seen by doggy vacay. Months later I am being sued. The girl did not make a report when she was supposed to. I called Rover who took over doggy vacay they gave me the run around and hung up on me 3 times. The girl that walks the dog doesn't want to take any responsibility either. I was told by Rover that these people are not really screened and they are just people who sign up to work for them. people if they do have insurance for the dogs they are very strict rules if they pay anything at all. Truly disappointed nothing was done right . everything was done so that no one had to pay for the incident. Meanwhile I will go to court. this woman skipped the little dog park and went to the big dog park so I will fight because she didn't do what was best for the interest of her dog is first safety was concerned.. But I'll never trust my dog with another person from Rover again. The service is terrible the woman that watched my dog as we talked for over an hour told me should call them they call me back. Of course Rover never did. Find another place it's not worth the risk here

BEWARE!!!
BEWARE! DO NOT USE this company! When the stuff hits the fan, you are on your own. I hired one of their cat sitters for a 2-week visit while I went on vacation. As soon as I got back 1 cat was vomiting and clearly sick. The other was seriously unhappy, agitated, and lost several pounds. I had to bring the sick cat to her regular doctor and subsequently to a 24 hour emergency hospital because it was the weekend. Total cost to me : almost $2,900.00. I complained to Rover.com that according to all the doctors who saw my cat, the cause of the severe kidney infection, 7% dehydration, and hypovolemic shock was that the cat had been eating RANCID food for a PROLONGED period of time. Rover.com denied the claim EVEN after I sent all the medical records and a strongly worded letter from my cat's vet regarding her condition. They just would NOT accept responsibility for hiring an incompetent and irresponsible cat sitter who most likely did not show up for the visits except at the beginning and at the end when I was about to return. Unless you have thousands of dollars to spare or don't care if your pet gets sick, DO NOT USE this company. Otherwise you will have the same experience as I had. Completely UNTRUSWORTHY!!!
Hide sight is 20/20 as they say. I just discovered while looking to write a review about this company that at the Better Business Bureau online site, Rover.com has 32 severely NEGATIVE reviews (33 including mine). Had I seen that before I hired their cat sitter, I would have my $2,900 to spend on myself and my cats would not have gone through this extremely unpleasant incident.
AUG 31 REPLY TO ROVER.com comment : Stop making a fool of me and anyone else who might actually believe you!!
My cat was NORMAL before your irresponsible agent neglected her duties resulting in my cat eating rancid food for an extended period of time.
As you saw in the medical records and the doctor's written letter :
- "off insulin for 1 whole year and IS considered IN REMISSION from diabetes. Her blood sugar showed NORMAL and NO sugar in her urine ( i.e. NOT diabetic)"
- kidney functions were normal the entire 2016 into 2017.
- "there is NO sound medical reason to connect previous diagnosis of diabetes and current kidney disease."
The ONLY reason I have not sued your company yet, is that the total damages to me is at a small claims court level.
So, stop spinning the story to your advantage by lying!!

Hi Desiree,
As pet parents ourselves, we know how scary and stressful having an ill pet can be, and we’re sorry you had to go through this. I hope that your cat is doing better now. Unfortunately pre-existing conditions are not covered by our insurance and I apologize for any confusion about that. If we can support you in any other way, please reach out, we’re available 24/7 at 888-453-7889.

This was the worst experience I have ever had! We usually board our dog with a private sitter while on vacation.
This person has no business being a dog sitter. Her home is completely unfit for animals. The entire property is covered in trash and debris. The inside of her home is covered in trash, urine and dog feces. There was no air conditioning (it's in Las Vegas!!!). She had 10 dogs in a one bedroom one story apartment. When I dropped off my dog she was at the curb and seemed so nice. It was dark. We were in a hurry, I didn't think about it. I must have caught her off guard when I came to pick up because I came to the door and actually had to come inside to get my dog. The most horrific conditions I have ever seen in this place. My dog wreaks of urine, was completely dehydrated and seemed so traumatized. The sitter tells me during pick up that one of her dogs picked multiple fights with my dog. The crate that I brought is completely covered in urine. The sitter clearly left my dog in there for long periods of time without potty breaks. I had to beg for updates and received only a few out of focus photos during the 4 day stay. The sitter would not respond for hours. I am in shock and disbelief that this happened. Willow is resting peacefully now but I am traumatized and appalled that this person is watching dogs in those conditions. I am so disgusted. There aren't enough words. Customer service at rover.com is a joke. They won't do anything. There is no screening of their sitters. On top of everything she caught a mild case of kennel cough!!! DO NOT USE ROVER.COM

The first two visits/check ins/walks …
The first two visits/check ins/walks went fine. The third time I confirmed my dogs visit the day before and all was well . On the day of the visit I had to leave my dog home alone for 14 hours. The sitter never showed up. I didn't get a call, txt or email. Nothing. When I checked with her finally she said that she was out of town for unexpected emergency and she was sorry . I really would have appreciated if this was handled differently. Maybe notify me before you go out of town where there is no cell service? I don't know, just a thought.

injured dog/pet insurance not helpful
Our dog cut her leg on a piece of glass in the dog sitter's backyard. The glass cut through three of her ligaments, as well as part of the fourth. She had to have emergency surgery and vet care for 9 weeks to ensure she would be able to walk again. We filed a claim through Rover. They covered up to 30 days of medical care, for which we were very grateful but then became overly critical of the vet notes. This led them to refuse to cover part of the medical costs, saying we did not adhere to the vet's care instructions, and perhaps the extra stiches were not related to the original injury. Our dog is a young border collie cattle dog. Being a pet service, it appeared they were looking for an excuse to deny whatever they could for their bottom line. Had we not used Rover, our dog never would have been injured and we would not be paying over $1,000 to make sure she will be able to walk again. It's not that we weren't grateful for what they did cover. In the end, it comes down to principle. They appeared to be looking for outs and monetary shortcuts. We were very close to the end of the treatment coverage period and had they not done this it would have left a different impression with our family. As such, they have lost our faith and our business and in light of this we would not recommend them.

Hi Molly,
As pet parents ourselves, we know how scary and stressful having an injured pet can be, and we’re so sorry you and Chloe had to go through this. It appears that we were able to provide reimbursement for all treatment related to the injury Chloe received while in the sitter's care, however the third-party insurance included with Rover bookings doesn't cover injuries that occur outside of a Rover stay. We sincerely apologize for any confusion about that.
We greatly value your feedback and are available 24/7 if you have any additional questions.

Terrible customer service!!!
We booked a dog sitter a week in advance with rover.com, 36 hours before we were supposed to leave we get an email stating that they were canceling our reservation with the sitter we had picked and had gone to their house to check them out. The email said that their reservation guarantee department would be in contact with us shortly. Now, here we are 4 hours before we are supposed to leave and still no word from them. BTW, they didn't have any problem charging my credit card right away....to the representative that replied to this review;the sitter didn't cancel the reservation you guys canceled it, the sitter actually contacted us and wanted to know why we canceled our reservation when we told him that you guys canceled it with us he was shocked, we used him without your involvement and had no problems at all. Your companies lack of follow up with us puts you in the minus 5 star category but unfortunately that is not an option.

Hi Tim,
Thank you for sharing your feedback and I’m so sorry to hear about your experience. I understand how frustrating it can be to have a sitter cancel at the last minute, and I want you to know that this is not the typical Rover experience. I’m not able to location your account, so I hope that you were able to find a replacement sitter, but if you need anything else, feel free to give us a call 24/7 at 888-453-7889.
All the best,

Disturbing and Dishonest
Please see the “one-star” posts of “tjs” dated July 6, 2017 and July 10, 2017. Rover’s latest claim is that the “dog sitter” got to choose whether to merge Dogvacay reviews to Rover when Dogvacay merged with Rover. So, in other words, the dog sitters could exclude “poor” Dogvacay reviews from their Rover listing, even if they were a Rover sitter and a Dogvacay sitter simultaneously, which was the case with our sitter. After having enough of Rover’s lies and false claims about posting our review, we requested our boarding cost be refunded due to the fact that we couldn’t trust that all reviews were posted when we booked our sitter and that Rover excluded our Dogvacay review so that other pet parents could not be alerted to our negative experience with Rover’s sitter. Interestingly, Rover was willing to refund 50% of our boarding cost rather than living up to their own claim (see Rover response to our July 6, 2017 post) of “Honest, verified reviews that reflect real experiences are an integral part of what makes Rover a place pet parents trust”. Really? Trust? The fact that Rover would choose to refund 50% of our charges rather than to do the right thing by posting a review that was previously posted on Dogvacay for a dual Rover/Dogvacay sitter should speak volumes to you about Rover’s integrity and honesty. If the two companies merged, one’s expectation would be that the reviews merged with it, not an it’s-up-to-the-sitter scenario. The fact that our Dogvacay sitter was already a Rover sitter prior to the merge, and our review existed on Dogvacay, makes this even more disturbing and dishonest. Rover’s final response to our request to post the review was “we cannot force the sitter to merge that profile (Dogvacay) with the active Rover one”. Clearly Rover can merge that profile’s reviews, they just choose not to. As stated in our earlier post, we would suggest you be very cautious in putting too much credibility in the completeness of pet boarding reviews at Rover. We also filed a claim with the BBB regarding this deceptive and fraudulent practice. For what it is worth, the review that Rover refused to transfer from Dogvacay read as follows: Gay mentioned she was doing this as a business that allowed her to work at home. We were in a bind as our dog's usual sitter was traveling and unavailable. While Gay did send one obligatory photo on each of the first four days of our trip (but without any comments), she failed to respond to our two texts asking her how our dog was doing. We then called her on the fifth day to inquire. She said he was doing fine, but all he wanted to do was sleep (which, we had told her should be expected). Then, to our complete surprise, she said her "husband was betting that our dog wouldn't last until the end of our vacation" and she chuckled! Can you imagine how this made us feel? Not only did she say this in the beginning of the call, but she later repeated it. How is one supposed to respond to such an awful and insensitive comment about our beloved dog? What dog sitter would say this to a dog parent, especially when we were 3,000 miles away? At pick-up, when walking to our car, she told us we should think about putting him to sleep permanently! She followed that up by saying “he will eventually lose his eyesight and hearing”. We never felt comfortable about our dog's stay for our entire time away, and this caused us much anxiety during our trip. We don’t believe she is a good fit for seniors with some special needs. We will not be using her again, as we want someone who doesn't do this strictly as a business but really loves and has a passion for animals of all ages and abilities. (Gay is in the Chatsworth, CA, 91311 zip code area)

I booked my dog to stay with Sabrina in …
I booked my dog to stay with Sabrina in homestead florida. When i arrived at her residence she was outside on the gravel road to meet me so i could find the place. I told her i needed to see where he would be spending the day. She said okay and walked me over to an RV. The ad said that she lived in a house not an RV. She said go ahead and open the door and take a look inside. Inside was filthy the tile floor looks like it hadn't been mopped in a month. There was a bed that folds out from the wall the sheet on this bed was Once Upon a Time White now it is so dirty that the middle is dark grey and brown and only the edges are white from people's dirty bodies laying on the bed. At this point i told her Tootie would not be staying. I wrote a review on rover.com on Sabrina's name basically saying the same thing I'm saying here. Since Tootie didnt stay rover.com took it off. Which makes no sense the reason he didnt stay was unacceptable conditions. I guess rover.com is trying to protect its good name by removing the reviews they dont like what a way to run a business.Needless to say i wont use their dishonest site again.
