We used Rover for the first time and we are very disappointed. Our dog loves everyone and is very easy going. When we picked her up we noticed her shaking but thought nothing of it except for excited to see us. Once home she did not get back to being herself for almost a week. One problem was fleas and scratching a lot. We feel like she was left outside a lot or locked up in a crate. Rover did listen to us but I am very hesitant of ever using them again. Another concern is that the sitters can have several dogs and Rover does not require proof of shots

Poisoned dog has now died after an excruciating two and a half months
This is an update. My sweet two and a half year old dog, Mufasa, has now died. The "Trust & Safety" employees at A Place for Rover, Inc., a.k.a. Rover.com, have neither trust nor safety as a paramount concern or they would not promote the misleading business practices of Rover.com. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG WITH A STRANGER who has not been meaningfully screened. You cannot trust anything Rover.com publishes about its dog-sitters according to the company's own Terms of Service admissions. Rover.com admits in its Terms of Service that they do not require background checks and conduct no screening or checks other than to make sure sitter profiles LOOK GOOD whether true or not. Read the Terms of Service very carefully at rovercom/tos/ and you will see that you will leave your pet in the hands of a complete unknown if you use a Rover.com sitter.

I would not give Rover.com a single …
I would not give Rover.com a single star if I could give zero...Here is my rover.com experience or Nightmare. Both dogs almost died from no food or water. Being left outside in sub freezing temperatures even though they are inside dogs. Then they decide to steal my wife's Camaro convertible for a joy ride Rover says they will refund my money...what a joke. What about the damage to my car and my dog's being abused?? I also think they were selling drugs here...I know they were using drugs because they left some here after my neighbors kicked their sorry asses out of here. Moral to the story...DO NOT BELIEVE ALL THE GREAT 5 Star reviews at rover.co!! Your Pet could be dead before you get back from your vacation. I feel terrible that I put my pets through this experience. AWFUL!!! Spread the word!!!!

Tick problem I should have known before leaving my dogs...
I normally do not like to leave bad reviews, but after contacting Rover.com and the dog boarder, I have no option. I don't want anyone to go through what we went through. We had our dogs stay with the boarder for two days at the end of November. When we picked them up, they were covered in ticks. In 20 years of living in Arizona, we have never experienced a problem like this. After contacting the boarder, she told me she had a problem with ticks before. We have contacted Rover and the boarder and asked them to provide us with receipts/documentation to show that she has treated the yard and home. We won't be taking our dogs back, but want to make sure this doesn't happen again. We have spent over $1,000 between vet bills, medications, treatments, pesticides and doctor bills - none of which is covered by Rovers insurance policy. Treatment takes months to completely take care of the problem. Rover never followed up to make sure she has treated her yard, and neither did she. She verbally told me she had, but never provided documentation, which would have been easy to do had she really done it. I strongly suggest that prior to leaving your dogs with any boarder, you should confirm whether they have ever had a case of ticks, and if so, provide evidence that the surroundings have been treated (this should show multiple application of pesticides over a 6 month period to prevent reinfestation). Rover said there is nothing they can do. I disagree.

I used Rover one time the person I chose walked my dog once when it was time to pay she said to go thru VENMO. Having not used the service before I said fine. When I contacted her again she did not return emails, texts calls and still had my key. I contacted Rover and told them what happened and I was going to have to have my locks changed they could not reach her either but bc I didn’t know better and paid thru Venmo Rover will not cover having my lock changed bad business practice and I will never recommend them. Awful

Don't Do It!
After being a sitter and client with Rover for 3 years, I cancelled my account. I had 5 star reviews from over 29 clients. One client tried to lie about me and after a horrible ordeal with her drama and lies I gave her a full refund. She said her neighbor would watch her pitbull mix in her 300 s.f. studio. (Not kidding). Low and behold her neighbor decides he/she cannot watch the dog. Next thing I know Rover is calling me 5 days after I issued the refund, telling me the owner claims I got her dog sick and that the dog infested Nutmeg seed! (Not kidding). Im not sure where the dog found nutmeg seed, 5 days have passed. Also did not walk through a nutmeg field! Lol. Rover didn't care that I had over 29 five star reviews or that I had been a client and sitter for over three years. They let this first time customer review me even though I watched her dog for one day and the dog spent weeks with some mystery neighbor! I was furious. Rover would not remove this review from my public profile, and I could not reply to the post. I started using Wag! and I'm so much happier. It's a shame that Rover can't get their protocols right. They "act" like they aim to protect animals, but they just don't care to solve anything and ignore the facts. They don't care for anyone but themselves. I will never use this company again.

Not safe for your pet and insurance offer is false
I got a phone call the third day of the service when I never got a message that my dog was aggressive telling me the dog bite the sitter. Batman has been between 10 to 12 times each year in care of petsmart and everybody knows him as a playing, lovely dog, and he never has been aggresive, non aggressive behavior was notified to me in the two days he stay with the sitter until they let me know about the bite. Neither workers at home when it has been required, exterminator, etc have has problem to get in the home even been the dog is alone. When I dropped the dog I was told the brother of a person in the house had 2 German Shepherds and this person would like to see Batman behavior with them. When we picked up Batman there were other dogs including a German Shepherd I wasn’t notified will be there. Now all this is affecting me and my dog because I decided to try Rover again. Who knows if the other dog was aggressive with Batman and when the sitter tried to split them is when she got bite?, of course, even been the other dog they won’t tell it was the dog of the person in the house to the authorities to been able to get medical care. They will accused my dog and I didn’t have any peace of mind as the web page says. Even the insurance says literally in the web page says “this coverage is valid for injuries to the sitter or dog walker’s resident pet(s) as a direct results of contact with the pet owner’s pet”, now Rover is telling I am not cover and the family of the sitter is calling me for medical expenses. Where was the piece of mind???. Again, I can proof my dog is not aggressive with supoenas of several pets mart workers, neighbors, people that has worked at my house, etc. am living this headache for trusting this non organized company that can’t insurer the pet safe and I will let know everybody my case. By the way, rover is doing a false offer when indicate the insurance cover the sitter injuries by the pet owner pet and I will take that and see if rover.com can now just clean their hands

We’re sorry to hear about this experience, and we understand how scary it must be to deal with a situation like this. I hope that your dog sitter is doing okay and that Batman is too. Unfortunately sitter injuries are not covered under our reimbursement program. If you have further questions, please contact Rover Support 24/7 at 888-727-1140.

IF YOUR PET IS HURT WHILE IN THE CARE OF A ROVER SITTER
I normally don't leave bad comments but I think that people should know that if their pet is hurt while in the care of a Rover sitter they will require you to cover the first $250 of the pet hospital bill. The sitter is not held responsible for any of your pets injuries.
My dog was attacked by another dog the sitter was also keeping. The attack left my dog needing stitches and a drain in her throat area to include taking antibiotic twice a day and pain medication every 8 hrs. Good thing I was on vacation already. I'm sharing my experience so that pet owners know what they are signing up for if their pet is hurt while in the care of a Rover sitter.

Hi Tanisha,
As pet parents ourselves, we completely understand how scary it is to see your pet injured and we hope that your dog is doing okay now. The third-party insurance company we work with has set a $250 minimum requirement to process an insurance claim, however we completely understand your frustration about this. If you need any further assistance we’re available 24/7 at 888-727-1140.
