Not the best boarding experience!
The individual I employed to board my dog for 8 days thru Rover.com was not someone I would choose again if I knew what I know now. The area where the dogs were located was very messy, with junk around, a boggy grass area inundated with mosquitos which can't be good for the dogs nor us human beings was the only "open" area seen. The area where the dogs were present; approximately 9 dogs, was too small for the rambunctious dogs some of which belonged to the individual running the boarding facility. My dog is 13 years old and tentative around large dogs which were not seen until the day I picked him up. Several large German Shepards and a Pitbull, plus dogs kept in a screened in deck area and another kept on a front porch. The German Shepards and Pitbull were not under control, jumped into my truck until pulled away. When I went to greet my dog who was on leash held by "Cami", he held his head down and cringed when approached...that is not like my dog. He was better once in the cab of truck and wagged is tail and was happier. Once we left the area, my dog went to sleep on the ride home, again unlike my dog. When home he was little more like himself after exploring the area and being fed. It took a couple of days for him to return to his friendly personality and stop cringing everytime he was approached. He did have mosquito bits in his ears which were attended to and have healed. Do to the thickness of his coat, I did not locate any other mosquito bites. I am not implying my dog was abused in any such matter, but "something" happened. I was told by Cami that he did attempt an escape and ran toward the main road until caught. Again, not like my dog to run away when at home. Will I use Rover.com again, yes. I have met others who offer boarding. Will I ever leave my dog with Cami and her boarding facilities, no. I was not aware of the option to visit the boarding facility prior to using and I should have asked more questions...but when being bit by a constant swarm of mosquitoes I just wanted to leave immediately. Drop-off date was 4/22/2024, pick up date was 4/28/2024.
