Avoid rover.com at all costs
I was scheduled to drop off my dog to a sitter from rover.com. My wife and I were going to LA for my brother's wedding. We found a sitter on rover.com and scheduled a meet and greet to ensure the dog was comfortable with them. I reached out to her two days before the drop off but I did not receive a response. I sent a follow up email but still no response. I used the site to find and book a new sitter. I brought her to the sitter on Wednesday night. He met me outside and took her from me. I got a call 15 min later that he lost her. I turned around and headed back. I called my wife to come over. We searched from 8:15PM Wednesday until 3:00AM Thursday. We slept in my car until 5:45AM then continued searching. We called a Dog Search Team and got help from friends. We hung flyers, searched on foot and by car and set traps. We stopped around midnight and slept in the car. We woke at 6:00AM and continued searching. This experience was beyond horrible. We were tired, stressed and terrified. On Saturday around 3:00 PM we found our dog 3 miles from where she went missing. She had cuts and bruises. We missed the wedding. The initial sitter wasn't receiving messages because of an update rover.com did to their website. Rover.com was supposed to assist with finding our dog by providing us with flyers and people. They printed flyers but did not provide tape or a way to post them. Some flyers were printed smaller and 4 flyers were fit on an 8 1/2 x 11 piece of paper. Rover didn't pay the .80 to have them cut. The sitter that lost the dog helped us for the first 24 hours. After that he only did minimal work. I asked him to pick up flyers. He told me he was tied up for 2 hours. Rover only provided one person to help for an hour on the last day. I spoke to rover about reimbursing us for airfare, house rental, food and supplies to find our dog they denied the claim. I explained this happened because they updated their software and sitters weren't receiving alerts. They did not care. I lost approximately $2500 between airfare, house rental, supplies, food, vet bill, etc. I feel rover.com is responsible for what happened.
