After going through the entire process in order to even sign up for Rover, ONLY THEN do they notify you that there is either a $25 or $35 charge for them to do a background check and that you are responsible for it.

Hi Alyssa,
We appreciate the shared feedback. All background checks are conducted by Checkr, an industry-leading third party. The background check fee goes directly to the processing by Checkr. In order to list services, all sitters must have a full background check.

No standards or accountability for sitters, enables scammers
We booked a doggy day care service with Rover. Our sitter ghosted us last second. We drove to the address she gave us to drop off our dog at the agreed-upon time, only to realize that address didn't exist. She would not pick up her phone. I had travel plans and my boyfriend needed to be at work, and we were left scrambling to figure out what to do with our dog last second. Eventually Rover refunded me, but they did not cancel the booking, meaning our "sitter" still profited. Rover did not hold her accountable in any way. She and other "sitters" may do this regularly on this app, basically making money from scamming people. This app enables people to easily to this with no repercussions. I would be extremely weary to trust their sitters. I'm not sure what qualifications, if any, people need to have to register as sitters. Our day was messed up and hectic, but it could honestly go much worse if the "sitter" had more nefarious intentions. I would strongly advise against using Rover, as they do not have any standards or accountability for their sitters.

Hi Kelly,
I am sorry to hear about this experience and want you to know that this is far from ordinary. Anytime a sitter doesn't provide care; a full refund is offered. Sitters are not compensated for care not provided. Anytime a stay is canceled, it removes the option to leave a review. If you haven't done already, we highly encourage you to leave a review of your experience with your service provider. By leaving a stay review, this gives our Quality Team the ability to review the service providers profile.
Warm Regards,
Spencer D.

Unreliable page / wrong information…
Unreliable page / wrong information provided
I just tried for the last two days to contact people for dog boarding.
First I contacted Jodie whom in her page description stated available during my dates and that she only has one dog at a time etc only to find out that she was not quite available as had another/looking after another 2 dogs and a cat!!!!!
Then contacted another person Anna whom also replied that was away on the selected days!!
What a waste of time (3days) and unreliable site! Very disappointed.

Horrible
Horrible, I paid for cat sitting for two weeks and dog boarding for my dogs for two weeks which was good into I made a unexpected visit and saw that my dog was left alone with no food, or because water. To add insult to injury she left a random dog in our bathroom with feces and urine all over the place. When I called Rover because I couldn’t locate the sitter they told me that they would try to call the sitter but never did. My cat is traumatized and my dog appears to be overly aggressive since his stay. Do yourself a favor and stay away from rover

We hired a cat sitter through Rover
We hired a cat sitter through Rover. When we returned from our 2 week trip, one cat had stopped grooming and the other cat had a respiratory illness - probably caused by a change in kitty litter. The sitter stayed in our house and agreed to keep the pool filled, which did not happen. The sitter caused a few hundred dollars of damage to the house, which I got repaired at the lowest cost possible. I tried to get compensation from Rover and filled out the forms and provided receipts, but they disbelieved me and refused to pay (after the $250 deductible it would have been like $120, but it's the principle). So, I recommend avoiding Rover and finding a responsible sitter through friends or Craigslist.

Inconsistent, non-customer friendly cancel policy (even in emergencies)
I have used Rover for the past 3 years and until now would have rated them a 4. The sitters are genuinely animal lovers and take good care of my doggies. Many could provide more updates...early on, i got good updates but in the past 2 years i rarely get an update from the sitter. And now i just learned they have a very vague cancellation policy. Sitters don't post their individual policies so as a customer you are blind to what he / she will offer for a cancel. I have never canceled a sitting until now. My doggie came down with a case of diarrhea and being the responsible owner, i chose to cancel the sitting 48 hours in advance because even if he got over it, i felt the change in scenery might trigger it and would be a MESS for the sitter. Turns out the sitter won't refund any of my pre-paid payment. And Rover is standing behind the sitter saying "she may have turned down another client for you". The power is all in the sitter, not at all with the customer. I had to book 3 weeks in advance to secure a spot and pay way in advance (would be better to have a 50% deposit) and when a dog unexpectedly gets sick there is no refund! Most companies track "bad" "chronic" customers...if i was a chronic customer who canceled all the time, i would have a low rating and sitters wouldn't confirm a booking. That is how it works everywhere else. So sad Rover...i am now working with a local sitting company.

Hi Denise,
We're sorry to hear of your emergency and appreciate your feedback as we continue striving to provide the best customer support possible. Although care providers are in sole discretion of their cancellation policies, I see that your booking was refunded in full and we hope Jack and Shadow are doing okay at this time. Please feel free to reach out to our support team if you have any further questions or concerns.
Kind regards,

Property Damage by Rover Sitter - Kirra B in West Chester, PA
I hired a sitter via Rover in May. The sitter, Kirra, came to my home on 5/29 to meet my dogs. We did a walk-through of my home. During the walk-through, I showed her where the washer and dryer were located, opening (sliding) the doors of the laundry area, clearly not pulling them out. Kirra agreed to watch my dogs from July 3 to July 8. I asked Kirra to take care of my girls, most importantly that they not be left alone at night. I didn't mind if she stayed at my home or her home, as long as they weren't alone in the evening. I left instructions on the fridge as well, giving her info on their care and feeding. Kirra was thoughtful and washed the sheets and bedding she used, but I didn't ask her to change the bedding. When I returned home, I noticed that a piece from the sliding laundry room door had been left on my counter. I didn't realize what it was until I went to do wash. BOTH of the doors to my laundry area had been damaged. I now need to replace the two doors as the damage at the top cannot be fixed nor can the rollers be put back on the doors as the wood is so damaged from the doors being pulled open instead of slid open. I contacted Rover via email, and received a response that I would be contacted within 72 hours. Sean O responded to my email and then after I left a few messages for him to return my call, he and I spoke. Initially, he shared that there is a $250 deductible for which I am responsible (never heard this before), and after a discussion about my long history with Dog Vacay and now Rover, he shared that possibly they would issue me a full refund in order to cover the damaged doors. Now he is back to the $250 deductible and wants a quote from a company to fix the doors. I would like the doors replaced and I do not want to incur the costs to do so as I did not damage them myself. I have lived here for over five years, and I will need to replace them before I move out. I felt it was appropriate to contact Rover directly rather than the sitter as I hired her through Rover. Sitter was Kirra B from West Chester, PA.

Rover Sitter Lost Nori
Unfortunately my daughter Courtney obtained Rover's services while visiting Athens Ga. On Aug 8, 2019 for her 1 1/2 year old dog Nori. At 5:30 pm on August 8, 2019 the dog sitter who's employed with Rover by the name of Cameron claims Nori "somehow" got out of her harness and ran off in Athens near Milledge and Macon HWY. His story is SHADY & Rover the company itself is claiming NO RESPONSIBILITY! They're hiding behind this so called disclaimer!! So my daughter Courtney is out there searching for her Nori alone! We are (Courtney's parents) and we're driving 6 hours to be with her during this difficult & stressful time, while also assisting in the search for Nori. Rover is completely useless & NO ONE SHOULD EVER USE THERE SERVICES!!!! BEWARE!!!! This entire experience has not only been excruciating but also heartbreaking!!!! Nori has been gone for 2 days and no one has seen her since.
