Cancellation within 48 hours and no support from Rover
I had a Rover sitter cancel on me within 48 hours of my trip. I was in a complete panic. Rover gave me $20 credit which did nothing bc It was the week of Thanksgiving and everyone had “Holiday Prices”. When I asks if I could receive a discount the Rover customer support person said all he could do was the $20. I proceeded to make serval requests trying to find someone to no avail. Several of the people I contacted had not updated their profile. It said they were available and they were not or It said they had no other pets and they indeed did. Then Rover blocked me from requesting anyone people because “I had too many requests”. This experience was a nightmare and I never got anyone to watch my pup.

I had Megan twice reschedule meetings…
I had Megan twice reschedule meetings today to introduce my dogs. Then tells me she is going to be 20 minutes late to the third meeting. Megan has five star ratings which make me very skeptical of the completeness of the reviews on this website. Megan explains that she is a tech for a vet hospital and dogs could die if she doesn’t cancel meetings Kinda says what priority my pets would have in her busy schedule saving other dogs lives which seems unbelievable for a vet tech

Disgusting business practices
Here is my story. I currently live in Jacksonville, FL and had my wedding 11/16 in Asheville, NC. It’s been planned since August or so. We have been in town since 11/13. For the first few days of my stay, my husband and I were staying with family in an airBnb that did not allow pets. My dogs, Chewie and Maisey, are a big part of our lives and were going to be apart of our ceremony. I needed to find a pet sitter to watch our dogs from Wednesday-Saturday. Beginning Saturday, my husband and I were staying in a pet friendly rental so our dogs could join us. Friday evening, I received a message from the boyfriend of the pet sitter whom I left in charge of my dogs care. The pet sitter has gone to work and the boyfriend was “responsible” for their care. This was unbeknownst to me. The boyfriend messaged me at 730 pm that my dog had been missing since 600 pm because she “bolted” out the door while he was coming in from a walk. Mind you, Maisey is scared of doorways. She will only enter and exit if there is a clear unobstructed view. The door was clearly left open. When we arrived, our dog had not been spotted in more than 2 hours (pet their report which is not reliable). When we arrived, the boyfriend was standing with the door 3/4 of the way open and our other dog ran outside to greet us. This is immediately after my other dog had just ran away. We received this call regarding Maisey when our rehearsal dinner had just begun. We abruptly left our guests to go search. We woke up the morning of our wedding at 530 am to search. We searched the day after our wedding, from daylight to dark, hiking through mountains, not eating or sleeping due to the heartbreak and stress. We did the same the following day. So basically the first two days of our “honeymoon”, I was hunting through the wilderness for my dog. Rover offered fliers with the negligent pet sitters number on it and untrained volunteers who scared my dog even more. Following this incident, multiple neighbors and community members reported to me that this specific pet sitter had lost a pet before. I was informed that dogs she is sitting have frequently been let out of her apartment off leash. She also lives in a development where she is not permitted to conduct a private business in her home nor have more than 2 pets. I was depressed, distraught, and broken. My main concern was making sure that those horrible situation never happened to another pet owner nor animal and that the $200 I spent was refunded. rovers response was that they would temporarily suspend her account until my pet was found (and after 4 nights and 3 full days spent in the woods 7 hours away from her home, praise the lord she was found and is home). Imagine my surprise when I find that I was refunded 50% of my money with the explanation that the sitters are independent contractors. You mean to tell me this business doesn’t have 100$ to give me???? I honestly can’t believe that this is happening. As if my trust wasn’t already broken and my wedding week wasn’t already ruined....and Rover can’t even have the decency to refund me?? Shame on them. Never again. Never allow Rover to contract your services. The company’s behavior is honestly disgusting. It’s not about the money, it’s the principle.

I hate writing bad reviews and consider myself a level-headed person, but we had a sitter who destroyed and stole some of our property, took our dog from our home to stay at his house without asking (despite explicitly paying him to stay in our home), got incredibly aggressive to the point where we didn't feel safe having our dog in his care and had to hire someone else WHILE boarding a plane. Rover didn't refund us for property damage OR for what we paid for the service. Good luck if anything goes wrong! Absolutely awful service.

DO NOT USE -- YOUR HOUSE (AND PETS!)…
DO NOT USE -- YOUR HOUSE (AND PETS!) ARE AT RISK. Although they say they have insurance and a guarantee, they do not honor it. I have liked 2/3 dog sitters I used but the last one flooded my basement. Although there was no one else here, it was my word against hers on who left the water running and they took hers. THIS COST ME $10,000 NOT COVERED BY MY INSURANCE AND MY BATHROOM AND FAMILY ROOM UNDER CONSTRUCTION FOR WEEKS. DO NOT TRUST ROVER.COM!!!!!!!

I paid for the sitter to remain at my home. We have security cameras all around the perimeter of the house (the sitter was apprised of this) and they documented the absence of the sitter on the first night. When she failed to walk the dogs, keeping one locked up in a small room for 14 hours, we fired her. Rover claimed that the sitter was an independent contractor and that they could not refund all of our money even though there was a clear breach of our agreement with them. After numerous email interactions, as a "one-time customer service gesture," the company agreed to refund my money. Refunding my money for services not provided, neglect of my dogs bordering on abuse was a "one-time customer service gesture??" I will not be using this service again and advise potential customers to consider how they responded to this situation: Is this a company with which you want to entrust your pets?

Sick dogs after a Rover.com stay!
My dogs stayed with a Rover dog sitter for four days earlier this month. Our Rover sitter had her own dogs there and other dogs she was watching. All this was totally fine as we have had this sitter in the past and she handles multiple dogs great!
When I picked them up on 9/14, they came home and developed diarrhea.
Our golden retriever had it the worst ! To the extent, we put up baby gates in the kitchen (the golden is 9 years old so these baby gates are not used often!) because we had poop everywhere. We took her to the vet.
Our vet informed me she was infected with a parasite. The vet said it came from a dish, water bowl, the yard or another dog. Our shetland sheepdog then started showing signs of the parasite about a day later. Luckily he didnt have it as bad as he is 13 years old.. We cared for him, giving him a bland diet. Within three days he got worse and we took him to the emergency vet.
It took about two weeks for the dogs to look and play like normal. This was extremely stressful after coming back from vacation. We love our dogs - they are part of our family
and we will do anything for them. But the bills added up quickly to keep them healthy.
Vet: $366.00
9 Cans of Rug Cleaner - $45 (nothing worked either... wil need to replace)
I submitted this issue to Rover and asked that other people that are taking their dogs to this house be told about tthe parasite. How many other dogs are getting sick?
I also asked to be reimbursed for the dog’s stay or to be paid for the vet bills as this was obviously contacted at the sitter’s house.
Rover.com refused to help with anything. They said NO - No infections are covered . REALLY ? They have no liability. i ask myself.. what is covered ????
Is this somewhere I want to take my dogs again? No.
How can i ever be sure that there is not an issue at another person’s house?
Wasn’t the luxury of using Rover.com so you didnt have to put your dogs in a kennel and they could be comfortable while you are away?
Rover.com doesnt stand by their own business plan as they are not monitoring or reviewing any sort of “condition” their pet sitter’s houses are in.
I have used Rover for YEARS. I will never use Rover again. I am just thankful that the unkept house didn't kill my dogs.
