I had a wonderful experience with my first pet sitter Debra M. However, the sitter scheduled to replace her at 9 am didn’t show up. I determined this around noon that day. I contacted Rover for help since I was 10 hours away and have a 13 year old lab that can’t be left alone that long. ROVER said they have no back up in place as these are independent contractors who work independently. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SERVICE. If your pet sitter is a no show you are screwed. There “medical” side got involved and said they sent another sitter to my house. This “second sitter” only let the dogs out and left. Again, my dogs were alone another 6 hours. I finally contacted the no-show sitter who came over and spent the night until we returned home the next evening. This series of events ruined the last few days of our vacation as we were frantic and worried with no one here when they should have been.

I was very disappointed to have chosen a dog sitter on Rover.com and left my animal with that dog sitter, only to find out she was shut down several days later. She was found with over 50 dogs in her home!! Yes the dogs appeared to have been treated well, but I can only imagine how stressful it was for my dog to have to interact with that many dogs for two days!! And this isn't the first time she has been cited for the conditions and number of dogs she was allowing.
So I am very disappointed that Rover.com does not have a better ongoing screening process to make sure situations like this (illegal conditions) aren't even options for the Rover.com customers!

Hello, Dorothy. We're terribly sorry to hear of your experience and can understand your frustrations. We do require all users of our platform abide any local or state laws or ordinances, and recommend all potential clients meet with their service providers in advance of their booking to conduct a meet and greet and determine if the expectations of the stay are a good fit for both parties - including the home environment conducive to quality care for each client. While we do conduct background checks of each and every care provider on the platform, we are unable to take any action on user accounts without knowledge of incident or concern - once this issue was reported we were able to take swift and appropriate action to support users and ensure pet safety. If you do have feedback or suggestions our team would be happy to speak with you further at 888-453-7889. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Steer clear!
I'd be extremely careful using this service and the fees they charge especially when cancellations are changes take place. The app doesn't work properly and I lost over $150.

The dog sitter didn't show up for the evening over night stay and stopped communicating with us. We were out of state for a wedding and it ruined our trip. Our dogs were alone from 6pm to 7 am. I was very unhappy with my first, and most likely last, experience with Rover.

Required $25 Non-Refundable Background Check Amounted to Nothing
It would be nice if Rover would give walkers a month trial period and give back the required background check $25 at the end of the month if a walker doesn’t get any clients. I’ve been on Rover updating my schedule and profile since 6/7/21, and no one has contacted me to walk their dogs. I live in a neighborhood where there are dogs barking in almost every house, so I thought I’d get great business. Alas, my $25 is gone forever.
Response from Rover.com | Pet SittingJul 3, 2021
We are sorry to hear about your experience. The initial payment during sign up is in place for a background check provided by a 3rd party vendor as every sitter requires a background check. We understand any frustrations with the process to become a sitter but should you ever need assistance or insight on how to promote your business on the platform please feel free to give our 24/7 Support team a call at 888-453-7889.

Worst House/Pet Sitting Service
Hi, We honestly will never use Rover again.
We have had 3 bad experiences since April 2021:
The First Experience in April- We had a "meet and greet" with the sitter at our home. We took the potential House/Dog sitter around our home and explained what she should know about caring for our dog and our home including the video security system that was in both family rooms and outside. On the evening that she came, we were already at our destination and could not return easily. She then told us that "indoor cameras were a non-starter". She then abandoned our home and the dog less than an hour after she had arrived. Rover.com was contacted and did try to find someone at the last minute, however, that wasn't realistic or honest. No one would agree to help on such short notice. We had to beg a family member in a different city to upend their life and schedule to care for our home and our dog. We had to cut our trip short to minimize the inconvenience to our family member.
The Second Experience in May - We contacted a sitter to arrange a "meet and greet" in May in preparation for a trip in mid June. She suggested a place and time to meet and we agreed. No one showed up. Then we were "ghosted" for quite a while. Almost a month later, a few days before we were supposed to leave, she contacted us claiming she was in a car accident had had "major injuries" and her phone was broken. While she may have been telling the truth about the accident, if she truly had the injuries that she claimed, she would absolutely not be able physically to house sit nor dog sit a month later. (We are in the medical field so we know something about injuries and the recovery process.)
The Third Experience- We tried again to contract with a house/dog sitter. We scheduled a "meet and greet". She did come over and we showed her around our home and explained what she should know about caring for our dog and our home including the video security system that was in both family rooms and outside. We asked for references which she provided and they were all very positive. She indicated that she was fine with the job and we signed the contract. Unfortunately, for us, she then cancelled the contract at 11PM on Tuesday when she knew we were leaving on Thursday morning. We were frantic. Rover.com again tried to find a replacement. Again, on such short notice, it was very difficult to find someone. One person eventually agreed to help, but took so long to respond that we had to reach out to neighbors and friends to find someone else to help in a timely manner.
Seriously, this is the Worst service we have ever seen. This company needs to vet the providers to make sure they have some sort of ethics and professionalism. As home and pet owners we expect to have honest, mentally stable, and trustworthy people to care for our pets and homes.
Based on our experience, we will Never use Rover.com again, nor recommend the company to others.
