I had a horrible experience with our sitter and she was completely opposite of what all of the positive reviews about her stated. What I experienced with her treatment of my animals bordered on cruelty. They obviously don’t do a great job in ensuring that people on their site are vetted.

I find the website to be difficult to navigate and it’s a total rip off to those actually watching the dogs
I find the website to be difficult to navigate. Especially when setting prices and the default prices rover sets (and has them
Hidden under “additional prices”). It’s not user friendly. Moreover I think it’s absolutely absurd that rover takes 20 percent of your earnings and on top of that charges clients a service fee. It’s criminal.

Re: Could not find one licensed boarder in my area, all unlicensed. This is illegal and should be highlighted to owners, not hidden amongst the small print terms and conditions. Insurance will also be invalid. Rover should pull their finger out and validate boarders and day care providers.

Customer service is poor
Customer service is poor. No help if a sitter does not communicate or cancels last minute.

I hired a sitter in Minnesota Cassi C
I hired a sitter in Minnesota, Cassi C, to house/dogsit for two days. She was supposed to walk my dog the day before housesitting, and no-showed. Said she forgot because she was busy babysitting, then showed up and said she came from her retail job at the mall (????). I met with her prior to my trip and went over directions, etc.
While I was gone, she texted me multiple times. Sent me photos of her and my dog, said she had briefly taken my dog to her parents house for a “play date” (which I did not approve of) and I told her to get back to my home for the night, which she agreed to.
Unfortunately I became ill and came home one day early only to find out …….Cassi was never in my home for more than maybe a moment or two! It was exactly as I had left it. Nothing had been touched.
Apparently she took my dog to her parents house with 3-4 other dogs, didn’t feed her the expected food, and left the dog at her parents house overnight. My dog is only 4 lbs and was recovering from surgery. When confronted with the truth, she told several DIFFERENT lies trying to cover up, pretended she slept in my home. When informed that my building has security cameras - she BLOCKED MY MESSAGES.
Cassi went on to say untrue, crazy things (like I sprained my ankle WHILE driving because I was in a psychologically “manic” state because i’m too dependent on my dog…..UMMMMM. HUH?????). When in fact she lied repeatedly.
Since I had everything in writing, screenshots, Rover messages etc I thought it was a no-brainer that she would be removed from Rover. Nope!!! Multiple emails and phone calls, all documentation provided to Rover and they still allow her on Rover. Told me if I wanted to know what actually happened to my dad g while I was gone - I had to get a COURT ORDER! I strongly suggest any prospective customers ask them about their “privacy policy”. (Which means they protect the sitter no matter what)
Neither Cassi or her parents would tell me the truth or show any remorse for the repeated lies they told. Her father told me he would only talk to an attorney. I have his text message. My dear g was pawing at her mouth and I wanted to know what happened. Cassi threatened me in writing and I had to get my locks changed per advice from police. ALL info given to Rover. All Rover.com said is that the cost to change the locks was under the $250 Rover Guarantee deductible and to follow law enforcements instructions. They were extremely uncaring and unconcerned in their phone calls and emails to me (which I’m happy to provide) even though they did NOT deny that Cassi did indeed lie repeatedly about my dogs whereabouts. They told me they wouldn’t pay for a visit to the vet since I couldn’t prove anything the sitter did contributed to any harm or her pawing at her mouth (ummmmm that’s because the sitter and her family refuse to say what actually happened! At least 5 different versions of events)
Rover could CARE LESS about sitters blatantly lying. Or about dogs well being. Unfortunately, it’s the innocent animals they’re hired to care for, that are ultimately the most hurt. They can’t speak for themselves. Rover is all about making themselves wealthy on the backs of unsuspecting dogs and owners.

Hello, we're terribly sorry to hear of your experience and assure you pet safety and professionalism within the Rover Community are two of our top priorities. We do understand that entrusting your loved one(s) with someone while you are away can be incredibly stressful and are saddened to hear your stay did not go as planned. With any incident or concern reported to us, we do conduct as thorough of an investigation as possible - including veterinary notes, communication with both our Support Team and amongst other users of the platform, and any other relevant documentation that may assist in our safety review. While our Rover Guarantee does not extend to preventative care or wellness checks, we would be happy to review any documentation should medical care be necessary and found to be a result of your booking. That being said, our privacy policy is in place to protect all users of our platform (both pet owners and care providers) so we are unable to provide further information you have requested. If you have any other questions that our team has not already assisted with we'd be happy to discuss at your convenience. We remain available 24/7 at 888-453-7889

I’ve had some pretty terrible luck
I’ve had some pretty terrible luck with the people I’ve hired from this app. Flakes. A bunch of flakes. One tried to quit In the middle of the vacation I was on 1,000 miles away. The most recent one quit on the day he was supposed to show up then told me how much he loves the dog but he didn’t want to make the drive. He is 8 miles away. The dog is super easy. Not reactive to anything, great on a leash, well trained and only requires a 30 minute walk.
