Dogs neglected, fed the wrong food, rugs destroyed by sitter -- Rover DGAF
Rover will not refund me for a stay that was ended early due to the sitter's neglect of my animals--they won't refund for the cancelled 4th night or for the 2nd night when my pets were left alone for 18 hours. The Rover guarantees are completely fraudulent. I also suffered property damage and vet bills due to the sitter's lack of care for my pets and my belongings (which were damaged initially because of the 18 hour neglect period). Sitter also lied to me about when she took them out at night. Smart lock records clearly show the door locked at 8:30pm and was not opened until late the next morning, and she claimed she was there at 10pm. Update in response to Rover: I have already reached out to the Trust & Safety teams, as well as Customer Service, and engaged with them multiple times. I have been told that even though Rover is the platform used, takes a cut of each stay, and markets "guarantees," the problem is ultimately between myself and the sitter to work out. The sitter did not respond to my request for a refund. Rover will not help me on any of this. You are right that it is alarming, and what I wrote above is really the "light" version. The Rover guarantee was also exposed as useless (which was not the case ~6 years ago when I last needed it) when the sitter told me at 10am one morning that she couldn't make it. Despite my calling the emergency line right then, Rover did not even try to get a walker or sitter over there to relieve my pets. It sent out 3-4 requests AFTER the sitter finally made it over, then told me the only option was someone who couldn't be there until 8:30pm. In the meantime, I found a better option than that myself on Rover, which makes clear that the support team really did not try very hard. Again, this has gone greatly downhill since the last time I needed help and the Guarantee during a stay. I regret ever recommending Rover to anyone and will continue pursuing this on all fronts. My damages are in the hundreds, and Rover won't refund me anything at all--even though that still wouldn't cover the property damage or vet bill. And Rover won't cover vet costs, even if clearly caused by the Rover stay, until I've spent $250. I'm completely disgusted by the handling of this.
