Unpleasant Experience
I have left my fur baby with Rover sitters in the past and those were pleasant experiences. However if the last sitter was my first experience with Rover, I would never have returned to this service. As a pet owner, who cares about the well being of their fur baby, I request Rover to look into some of the folks that sign up for this as a side gig without much regard for a pet. Summary of experience: 1. When we requested to let the pet check out the backyard in our presence at drop off, the sitter politely declined the request stating family was in the backyard. This did not strike as a red flag at the time as we trusted the sitter. 2. Got an SOS in the middle of our vacation to pick up our pet, because she was sleep deprived and the dog kept barking and wouldn't sleep. Upon checking, she clarified that there was construction around her place at night and also that she has barricaded the dog. Anyone handling a dog will know that dogs have sensitive hearing and typically either let owners know or handle this better. Sitter's profile reads that the pets are allowed on furniture and bed, which does not leave room to consider, that they will be contained in any way. 3. Despite having swiftly picked up the pet with friends who were tending to family emergency at the hospital without causing any trouble and empathy for a young mother who is sleep deprived, when I enquired about corrections to the charges, and an ETA (as suggested by Rover to sort things out with the sitter vs Rover first), the sitter snapped back saying I was hassling her for $36 and it was not worth it. 4. My pet had blood in his stools after he was picked up from the sitter. It took two more bouts of lose stools before he was back to normal. Goes to show he was subject to high levels of stress and anxiety. 5. Upon leaving an honest review, she dropped a few nasties back to me. The handling has been unprofessional to say the least. I have not responded to her, since it is beyond acceptable behavior and the empathy that was extended to her was not reciprocated. @Rover.com : I have reported this per the process laid on the website which asks you to send out an email through log in -> help -> chat option. I have reported this issue in two places now. Hope Rover.com takes the necessary steps. Like I said in my email, I’m happy to share the transcript of the chat, if that helps. The sitter wrote to me that Rover hadn’t paid her for the stay at that point. I’m not interested in engaging with the sitter again. It was an unpleasant experience. I leave it to Rover teams judgement on how you want to proceed.
