I did not have a good experience with Rover. The first pet sitter did two walks with me and my dogs to introduce them, seemed great, then messaged that she had health problems and couldn’t be a sitter. The second dog sitter took three walks with me and my dogs, watched them once and did a good job but then no-showed three times in a row and stopped messaging. The Rover customer service was no help. I am having difficulty getting a refund for the final no-show. My impression of Rover is terrible.

Initially good, but then...
I have recently joined Rover as a pet sitter, after years of occasional pet sitting for neighbours. While the initial 3 bookings via Rover were straight forward, and owners, dogs and myself were happy, the 4th booking ended up an administrative nightmare.
It started with Rover asking me, the sitter to reconfirm my bank account details (despite fact I had received a payment from them 2 days prior).
I had great difficulties doing so, trying several times, as the system does not display confirmations.
I was also waiting for a new booking to be confirmed, having met the owners and dogs, and all were happy to go ahead.
The owner then had horrendous problems sending payments to Rover. They kept asking her to input her card details numerous times, and requested additional verifications. Her own bank advised her to stop it all, as too suspicious.
All along, I had tried to communicate via the Support chat, via basic chat bots and occasional repetitive humans.
The dog owner did same, to no avail!
In frustration, she ended up cancelling the 7 day dog sitting, and will never use Rover again.
I am furious with Rover, as my record is perfect, a 5* sitter with excellent reviews.
In parallel, Rover has further increased the % they levy from sitters. So, an increasingly expensive company, with a worsening setup and customer service.
For an app based company, that is VERY VERY VERY poor.
Post-reply from Rover:
I don't run a business, this is an occasional and very enjoyable activity whilst I try to fund full time work.
Again, if the efficiency and customer service justified the high fees, I'd have no problems.
But this is far from being the case.
And no, I don't wish to speak to anyone about it.
You have all the facts, now fix the problems.

I am extremely disappointed
I am extremely disappointed and dissatisfied with Rover. I have been a loyal customer for a long time, and after a single incident, your response was to suspend my account without giving proper consideration to my experience or concerns.
What is even more frustrating is that the dog walker involved—who failed to provide a professional service and whose conduct was completely unacceptable continues to have an active account. It feels incredibly unfair that the customer is penalized while the service provider faces no apparent consequences.
As someone who trusted Rover and used the platform regularly, I expected a fair and balanced review of the situation. Instead, I feel dismissed, unsupported, and deeply disappointed by how this was handled. This experience has caused me to lose confidence in Rover’s commitment to protecting and valuing its customers.
I genuinely expected better from a company with Rover’s reputation. Unfortunately, this experience has left me feeling that customer loyalty and safety concerns were not taken seriously.

We had a terrible experience with a dog…
We had a terrible experience with a dog sitter who tried to extort us for more money while we were on vacation. But what made matters worse was how awful Rover's customer service was. They wouldn't listen or respond to us and ignored the problem completely. At the end of the day, all they cared about was collecting their fee. They didn't care about the welfare of our puppy at all. The absolute worst experience I've had with any company.

Terrible sitter
Terrible sitter , had to fire him. First, he said his brakes went out on his car and he couldn’t make it and then he said his phone was stolen and that’s why he wasn’t communicating. Just a complete disaster.

our sitter left our front door wide open and left!!!
our sitter left the house before we got home as agreed but she left our front door wide open to anyone who was passing, putting our pets and cars and belongings at huge risk. she admits her mistake openly (how can anyone get confused about closing a front door?). Rover customer support are doing nothing. it's all bots no real human beings.

Dangerous emergency placements and misleading information from Rover
Rover contacted us directly and asked us to take a dog because it was not getting on with another dog. We accepted in good faith based on the description provided and were assured that the dog could be safely accommodated alongside a pre-existing booking we already had scheduled for the following morning.
Valeria, the case manager, called us three times before we took the booking. On those calls, she misled us about the dog’s needs and his ability to be safely around other dogs. We later spoke to the dog’s owners, who had been incorrectly told by Rover that we accepted their dog before taking the other booking. In reality, we had informed Rover of our existing booking from the very start.
Unfortunately, the dog’s actual care needs and behaviour were significantly different from what we had been told. The dog required near-continuous supervision, would not remain in his crate despite being described as crate-trained, repeatedly soiled our flat, and displayed aggressive behaviour towards us.
This left us unable to sleep overnight and created a serious safety concern, particularly because we had another familiar dog due to arrive the following morning. Rover was aware of that booking and had said the arrangement would be fine, but it was clearly not safe or appropriate for the two dogs to be together.
Throughout the situation, we ensured the dog was safe, walked, fed, and cared for to the best of our ability. However, his undisclosed needs were simply too much for us and far exceeded the limits we had clearly stated to the case manager before accepting the emergency placement.
When we contacted Rover with our urgent safety concerns, their advice was to simply lock the dog in our bathroom to stop him from soiling the flat. Rather than taking responsibility for the situation they had created, they put the onus back on the owners to find someone to collect him. The owners did not have anyone available, leaving them spending a significant part of their holiday frantically trying to find alternative care arrangements.
Despite repeatedly contacting Rover, communication was incredibly poor. We were told the matter was being dealt with, but we had to repeatedly demand a clear, urgent collection plan. We were left managing an unsafe and highly stressful situation without timely, practical support.
Given this experience, we will not be sitting through Rover again. The service they offer feels dangerous: emergency placements are arranged without accurate behavioural information, compatibility with existing bookings is not properly assessed, and urgent safety concerns are met with shocking advice and delayed action. We would never trust leaving our own pets in care arranged through this app.

Do not use Rover under any circumstances
I would warn every single person that I know to avoid using Rover. The girl that we have hired before did not check on our animal for the duration of the trip and we came back where he was severely dehydrated and needed to go to the emergency veterinary clinic. He had no medical conditions prior to our trip and now he still can’t even have full control of his tongue due to the lack of care and neglect we have filed a police report against the person who is supposed to be taking care of him and still have not received any sort of reimbursement for our Vet veterinary care from Rover.
