Worst experience. Had to search for a new dog sitter on vacation. Wouldn’t take responsibility or refund money. Stay far far away

Petsitter caused death of my dog, Rover's due diligence and post accident support is poor
My dog died in an accident while she was with a Rover dog walker! I want to warn all pet owners who use Rover for pet sitting/walking: The pet walkers/sitters on Rover are in general not qualified for the job, these are students or unemployed individuals, who do the job to earn quickly some money. Rover does not control or conduct any due diligence on their qualifications, for Rover it is only about getting as many people on their website as possible, so they can cash in the subscription fees. My dog died at the hands of the Rover dog walker, through her despicable negligence while walking my dog, a bus run over my dog and the dog walker did nothing to stop or slow down the bus. The dog walker made the absolutely wrong decision to walk my dog along a busy and dangerous road, while she lost control over my dog as she was distracted, probably with her phone. Dog died a gruesome death, the body was completely disintegrated from the bus. She failed to call the police, the dog was laying on the street for over an hour until somebody called Animal Welfare to pick up the dead body and bring it to a vet for cremation. Horrible experience. But what is the worst, the dog walker in her panic called Rover right after it happened to report, and instead of guiding her to call the police as the bus driver did not stop after the accident, Rover support just pulled out a scripted speech of condolence in a situation of pure panic, while the dog was lying on the road with both her eyes popped out and the intestines dropped out of her body! Absolute shameful behaviour from both Rover and the dog walker, and pure incompetence from the Rover's walker. Police is now investigating. I recommend all dog owners to stay away from Rover and to better hire a fully Council approved dog walker, these are mature experts who know their job, they may be a bit more expensive, but it is worth it pay more and not going through what we did. These Rover students who want to make a quick GBP25 for 1h dragging your dog along a road should never be allowed to offer their incompetent services to the public!

my rover canceled on me the day before…
my rover canceled on me the day before and Rover has no policy in place if that happens which is ridiculous. Rover should find someone for me when it is that last minute and give me the rate I was going to pay. I had to scramble and no one was available for the price range I can afford due to it being literally less than 16 hours till I had to find someone. You gave me a $50 credit which is something but not anything close to what you should arrange. Please change your policy on this. I was stressing out when the guy canceled on me and luckily I found a friend outside of rover that helped me in a bind, but going out of town for work, I was stressed out when this happened. It's amazing you penalize us if we cancel last minute but nothing happens in this scenario?

Don't Trust Rover's Sitters
After using a sitter that seemed ok, had good reviews, and assured me that she could fulfill the duties, we discovered via our outside security cam that she was picking up poop with her hands and had placed some on our window sill. When I reached out to Rover support about my concern about her being a suitable sitter on their site, they sent back generic scripted replies and said they would talk to the sitter about it.
This person clearly has some mental issues and should not be caring for people's pets. Please do your due diligence before booking any sitters from Rover because they do not check people thoroughly as they previously did and reviews of sitters on this site are capable of being faked.

Horrible problem solution center
Horrible problem solution center. Had to deal with all issues on our own. Wanted us to pay up front for another sitter when we were having issues with our current sitter. They do not care about the safety of your animals, they only care about money. Said they would only refund the money if the sitter’s policy allows it????? So if they do their job or not, they still could potentially keep your money. I will never use rover again. They have proven that if you are traveling and don’t have access to get home right away or someone who can be there for your animals, just in case, that they will not do anything to correct the problem. Only charge you more money to book a new sitter (not guaranteed to find someone quickly) then offer a discount on the next booking. No thank you. My animals mean the world to me and it’s extremely apparent that Rover does not follow the safety and care that they preach about. I’m sure many people have had great experiences. But if you don’t, do not rely on Rover to help you correct the issue unless you have the extra money to shell out at that exact moment.
