Rover Stole My money and deleted my account
Zero stars.
Rover stopped paying me in April, and said they needed to verify more personal data. Under their agreement, I am supposed to be a private contractor, so they should not be allowed to verify certain personal data. They owe me $480 and I stopped booking through the site because I can’t afford them not to pay me. Support is next to impossible to deal with. They only have a form you can fill out online and they only accept responses sometimes. They don’t have a phone number. I told a client that I was not taking bookings on the site anymore, and they Rover terminated me off the app—which means I can no longer even contact rover support because you have to be signed in to contact them. The money they owe me has vanished, and I have no way of getting in touch with them. Of note is that CA recently determined rover is inappropriately claiming sitters should be classified as employees in an $18mil lawsuit. I have taken clients who travel to my state from CA for recreation and business, so I think that’s why I was flagged in their system. Or because clients wanted to tip me, or because rover said it was okay to exchange regular phone numbers, but recently changed terms so that is against terms of service.
They change the terms of service constantly to suit themselves, and my experience has been that it is always a huge nuisance. This is not the first time I haven’t gotten paid, but they’ve now terminated my account. Which is whatever, I don’t want to work for such a slimy company. They should still pay me the several hundred they owe me.
I was on Rover for 5 years, I had a perfect 5-star rating, and lots of regular clients who I built up relationships. Some of those relationships were very sensitive, and it is very unkind for River to care so much about money that that break these bonds and I can’t even tell my clients. Not to mention that I have KEYS to my clients’ houses, so now I’m supposed to not give them back?
There were constantly tech glitches and issues with the rover relay. Like visits not starting or rover cards not going through even when oroperly completed. They say you are a private contractor, but they: monitor all correspondence and now require all correspondence to be through the site, have a non-compete clause, require personal information that only an employer should be requiring, control all information through the site including owner information AND financial data. If you get blocked from the site without notice, you lose all of that data. They do not pay out for any damages to the sitters, their cars, or their homes-sitters must carry their own insurance. I got bit by a dog booked through the site, and rover doesn’t cover that $1600 bill, or lost income from not being able to care for my clients’ pets (but Rover still gets paid because the client has to book another sitter through them). They require that sitters comply with local laws and ordinances, which in my state, that requires that I get a business license, and that in turn violates the non-compete clause.
Also, a fun tidbit, is you will routinely get a prompt to love and rate Rover. Statistically, they are ballooning up their positive reviews because it is more likely that a person who is happy with rover will rate it every time it prompts you, which exponentially elevates the positive ratings based on how many times it prompts you. A person with a bad experience is more likely to leave one bad review instead of going back and writing a bad review every time they get onto rover… cuz they’ve already been kicked off.
Rover doesn’t care about it’s sitters, and it DEFINITELY doesn’t care about it’s pets. I’m so sad for my fur babies who took so long to build relationships with, and now they have to go through that again. Pets are emotional creatures, but Rover sees them only as $$$.

Why use other sites for reviews
I don't understand that's where we're doing reviews on? Why don't we have them on your site? I have to give you a single star because I don't like using other sites. That's how people get into my data

severe injuries
I took back my dog after a day care injured without nails on 3 paws
Rover approach is to try and escape liability all they think is money when im trying to worn dog owners to be very careful.
apparently they never ask for qualification therefore all those people seating at home looking after dogs do not care. By English law any dog seater must be licensed Rover does not ask for any licencing or filters the seaters. I will never ever use them again and I will make everything in my power to let people know how careless they are

Can't talk to a sitter unless you book a stay
Filled out the online application for a certain person but stopped short before committing any funds. The sitter sent me a message asking if my dog was neutered, I replied back and said he was and provided my phone number stating I had some questions before finishing the app. A few hours later I received another message saying they blocked my number for my protection. So its ok for me to give them my phone number address and email but not vice versa. They actually wanted me to book my dogs stay before letting me speak with the sitter. Hope they keep my data private , already booked with another chain not affiliated with Rover.com.

Account suspended for refusing to use a dog walker I didn’t trust
I messaged a potential dog walker then she wanted my phone number to discuss things. I did and I agreed to do a meet and greet with her as she didn’t want to use rover as she loses money. After the meet and greet I still felt uneasy about not using the service so declined using her and she got so upset and started to threaten me and yet rover decided to suspend my account but this lady is still allowed to have a profile on rover and potentially walk peoples dogs.

Sitters who don't resond
Contacted 2 pet sitters who said they were available and in each case received no acknowledgement or reply. Very disgusted with solicitors who want your business then lack the courtesy to even acknowledge your inquiry. Unfortunately, Rover only lets you leave a review to a pet sitter after they have watched your pet. Cannot review a sitter on Rover who ignores your request.
Response from Rover.com | Pet SittingJun 11, 2023
Hi Chuck, we’re very sorry to hear about this experience. I definitely understand how this can be frustrating! We’ve found that this can happen for a variety of reasons--from the sitter having a personal emergency, booking another appointment, to simply forgetting to get back in touch. Since sitters are considered independent business owners, not employees, they are in charge of running their personal business as they see fit. I understand how it’d be courteous to receive a response, but unfortunately, this doesn’t always happen. If you need help finding a sitter please be sure to give our Rover Support team a call at 888-453-7889. We’re available 24/7 and look forward to assisting you!
