My dog passed away and the company couldn't possibly care less
Edit 8/8/2023: I did finally hear back from "Chris" and the details he gave do not match with what sitter said so I called and that phone number doesn't actually go to anyone at the company. It routes to an overseas call center and all they do is take notes. How do I know this? Because I called and asked for Chris and she didn't know what I was talking about so I asked her. So to recap, my dog is dead and the details rover gave me from the sitter don't match what the sitter told me. I tried to call and their "trust and safety department" is a call center.

My dog passed away and the company was only interested in covering their a**es. How do I know what happened? I wasn't there. I received a text message "I hope your vacation is going well please give me a call" and I did and found out my dog was dead. He didn't eat for 2 days prior which I found out after the fact. There was another dog there, which I found out about too late to do anything about and was told the dog would be downstairs. The only update I ever got was they were settled in Wednesday night, until the message Sunday morning that he was dead. When I went to pick up my other dog I found out my boy that had passed had not eaten for 2 days. I found out they "got along" with the dog that was there even though there was supposed to be no other dogs there and she specifically noted only two at a time on her profile. One of the reasons I choose her. I got an email from Rover asking me what happened and never heard anything back from them. How can I possibly know what happened when I got no updates to even know he was doing poorly?? Honestly I don't think they care about people's pets at all, they just care about making sure they get their cut of the profit.

Sitter/Rover review.
The sitter left the hose running onto the ground all day after watering and took no responsibility for that. The water bowl on the front porch for the feral kitty was slimy and filled with flies again not taking responsibility or even apologizing for her lack of caring. In trying to remediate she stated she would not respond to any additional correspondence. I find this behavior unconscionable. In explaining all this to Joyce at Rover the response was to contact the sitter again.

Bad service. Horrendous emergency response!
Bad service. The employee who addresses emergencies needs to find another job. Stay away from this company at all costs. I have booked multiple times with different sitters. The issues weren’t with the dog sitters. They were with Rover specifically. Horrible emergency response handling. Find a neighbour or a local dog sitter. Do not book with Rover if you care about your pet.

Do not use Rover! Serious incident and no contact! !
I have used Rover numerous times in the past. My usual Rover sitter had to cancel on my booking at the last minute. Due to this, I had to scramble to find a different sitter with only a week before I was to leave. I was worried because my dog is like my child, and I want to find a good sitter that will ensure her care. I found a sitter on Rover and she had good reviews, so we scheduled a meet and greet with her and her dog. The meet and greet went great and both dogs really liked each other. A few days later on a Saturday, we drop my dog off and all seemed well. We received messages from the sitter a few hours after dropping her off saying that our dog was doing great and even sent a picture of both dogs cuddling with her on the couch. On Sunday morning, we receive pictures of my dog enjoying a walk as well as a message that both dogs really seem to like each other and that "they are buddies". Sunday late afternoon we receive a text out of the blue that states that our dog has attacked her dog and we need to come and pick her up because she can't stay there. We are frantic as we are 7hrs away from our sitter and our dog, have no one to contact to pick her up, and do not know what has all happened. Mind you, this was sent in a text. I call the sitter immediately, and after calling multiple times and leaving voicemails, she finally answers the phone and states that my dog tried to "kill" her dog and they are rushing to an animal hospital. I ask what happened and what is the condition of her dog, but she gives very little information. She does explicitly state that what would make this situation better is if we discussed the vet bill and that I state I would pay for it. Even though I am frantic, and do not know what all is happening, I say that of course I will pay the vet bill. My daughter and I start our 7hr drive back to the sitter and our dog. After a few min on the road, we try to call our sitter and ask the condition of her dog. When I first talked to her, she was saying that she didn't know how her dog was doing, just that our dog is food aggressive (which she never has been) and they both went for a piece of food on the ground at the sane time, and got into a fight. My daughter states that she is very sorry this has happened and she hopes her dog is doing ok. The sitter then states that her dog will be "fine" and he is back getting stiches, even though this was not stated to me when I was first talking with her myself. My daughter then asks how our dog is doing, as we have a right to know since we entrusted her and paid for her to care for our dog. The sitters mood instantly shifted and got defensive, and said that she cannot feel for us as they are the ones at the vet, not my dog. She then threatens us that she will pursue legal action against us if we do not pay the vet bill and will report our dog to authorities. My daughter and myself could not believe she was threatening us, even after we had originally told her we would pay for the vet bill and our driving 7hrs to her. I had already told her that I would pay, and that I am currently driving there. After not giving us the vet information after asking, my daughter looks up emergency vets in our area and she finds out where the sitter's dog is receiving treatment at. We pay for the bill, and after paying, my daughter asks the billing person if the dog will be alright, because up to this point, we still did not know the extent of the injuries, and the vet person said that the dog will be fine. After we paid the vet bill, we did not contact the sitter until we were 2hrs from her house, and we never received contact from her. For hours we never heard from the sitters, only until we were 1hr away did she text us and say to let ourselves into the house and she does not want contact. We do as she told us. Very disappointed in the lack of contact from our sitter and little information given to us.
A few days later we receive an email from Rover stating that they are starting an investigation because our pet caused injuries on another dog, and that they would like a written statement within the next two days. I respond immediately that I want someone to call me, and I even tried to call them. I then sent in my written statement the next day and included screenshots of our texts, phone logs, and vet invoice. I never heard back from Rover even though it is going on over a week since I called and sent the email!!! This is a serious situation. I want to talk to someone at Rover, specifically the Rover individual that sent me the email, but have heard nothing. I will NEVER recommend Rover to anyone who cares about their dog. This experience with our sitter was so terrible and could have been handled so much more professionally.

I don’t have to read any guidelines
I don’t have to read any guidelines . I can just tell my bad experience which is the truth . My dog walker cancelled less than 12 hours before a walk . I guess never told their employer Rover so I was charged for three walks ( which I never had ) then continued to get emails about the walks and other services . Why did Rover not know that because they just wanted my money . Rover charged me for 6 walks and I had none . Quick for them to offer a service and charge people who had no service . Now I have to wait 10 days to get my money back . Don’t recommend this company at all . I would. It trust leaving any dog with them

Bamboozled
ZERO stars. I was bamboozled. I was on my way to drop my cat off when I received a new drop off address that was not the same as the previous address I had been to 2wks prior. It was not residential. (This would've been the second time using this sitter.) Out of concern I asked to see the accommodations as I was feeling uneasy about the situation. It was deplorable. The windows had bars, and were covered for good reason... poor ventilation...It resembled a filthy dank jail cell with a dirty cot pushed up against a wall. It was unacceptable. There was dog barking and scratching behind another door...I took my cat Cairo (Mau) and drove around for 5 hrs. Total nightmare. As of today, I’ve been reimbursed but I'm still vexed. Guillermo doesn't live on a farm as his profile states and lodgings are far from being a resort as the business name on Whatsapp implies. Beware.

Rubbish customer service - no sense of urgency and no response.
Had an issue with a sitter at v short notice before booking started. The risk was that they had a dog -which they hadn't disclosed on Rover - when I'd specifically checked with them that they didn't, so we could have our cat stay with them.
I both rang Rover to ask them to cancel the booking, and sent them a support email. I did this as it was within 24 hours of the booking starting.
It's nearly 24 hours later and still a) No response from Rover support email b) The member of staff on the phone promised I would receive a call back from a supervisor "that day".
Later yesterday I was able to resolve this problem - but it's clear Rover customer service couldn't care less about the safety of the pets looking for care through their platform. No better than any other middle man looking to take their cut with as little as possible whilst they claim to care about pets and pet sitters.
