I always kept my pup with me or at a small group of friends I trust but a weekend trip came up that he couldn't come and my circle was all out of pocket. I had seen Rover advertised and it was very easy to research, sign up, and book a sitter. Lydia took great care of my boy and I will be using again

5 stars for the dog care 3 stars for the price. The initial price was reasonable but Rover keeps adding extra for this and extra for that ie holiday upgrade, partial day fee, the heavier the dog the more you pay.

The pet sitter was excellent! The platform and ease of using Rover was not. I continued to get emails from another pet sitter whom I was not planning to use.

This was my first experience using Rover. I found out about it from my neighborhood listserve Nextdoor, where many people highly recommended it and a few people had the usual horror stories. I decided to check it out because I really needed to find somewhere to board my dog for a few days and it sounded promising. If there were a way to leave 3.75 stars I would and this is why. Overall I was very happy with Rover in the end but I had to go through a lot of aggravation to get there which in all fairness was not directly Rover's fault except insofar as it's not clear how seriously they look into bad reviews of their pet-sitters. I found someone who looked like a perfect match. She was in the right area; in particular she was very close to the dog park where I take my dog regularly and her description implied that she also went to this park which was what I was hoping for. Her rate was acceptable and she was available. We arranged to meet at her house a good 10-12 days before the date I would be needing her and I and my dog went over for a visit. It seemed OK, my dog loved her backyard, he got along OK with her dogs and while I didn't fall in love with her I felt it was acceptable. She didn't exactly live up to what she had described on line, she had exaggerated a lot. Although she had a lot of good reviews, I should have been forewarned by the bad one which I asked her about; she got very defensive and said it wasn't accurate but I now suspect it was probably exactly true. Still, since she had the yard, I was less concerned because it was very large, my dog loved it and he seemed comfortable in the house. While I was there she asked if I would be OK if she boarded another dog the last two nights of my dog's stay but if I didn't want her to, that was OK. It turned out, however, which she did not tell me at the time, that it was her niece's dog and she had already promised that she would take the dog. I said it would probably be OK but my dog and I had to meet the dog first at her house with her dogs as well altogether before I could decide. She said OK and said she would get back to me. This was on a Thursday. By the following Wednesday I hadn't heard from her so I texted her and said what's going on, are you still going to board my dog and are we going to meet this other dog? At that point she wanted me to go with her to her niece's house to meet the dog there! I told her I didn't have time to do that and besides the whole point was to meet the dog at her house where all four dogs would be staying together. She didn't get back to me so on Saturday I texted her and said I was sorry, but unless we could meet the other dog and that didn't seem like it was going to happen, I didn't feel comfortable having it there while my dog was there. I repeated that she had told me at the beginning that it was OK if I said that and I was saying that now; I just wanted it to be my dog. The next thing I heard was a text from Rover saying she had cancelled my reservation! SHE never contacted me or told me, I only heard it from Rover! And this was on Saturday night with me leaving the following Tuesday! Leaving me two whole days to find someone else. Rover was great about it, to their credit. They apologized and gave me a $20 credit toward my next booking. That wasn't the end though. She continued to text me all Saturday night incoherent messages about her niece and she thought I would understand and she was sure we could work it out. I didn't answer any of them and finally blocked her. At least the story has a happy ending. I was able to find another person on Rover at a slightly higher rate but he was wonderful, he took my dog to the park several times and I felt confident that he treated him very well. I would use him again. So 4 stars instead of 5 because somehow Rover needs to have a better way of keeping track of their unreliable and not completely together pet-sitters. I have the entire text thread as documentation.

Rover has helped me find pet friendly reliable sitters for several years. I have never been disappointed in any sitter we have had. I wish there was a phone number on the website though. We went on a cruise for 12 days back in late September. I could not find any sitter to do drop in visits at my house. We had to board our dog unfortunately. She is a rescue pet and was did it do well at the kennel. I feel if there had a contact phone number we might have avoided the kennel.

The 2nd person who watched my dog was wonderful. The first one was terrible. She lied about not having any other dogs there and I had to find someone else
