We had a meet and greet and all seemed very good. A very friendly couple who felt happy to look after our 3 dogs. Ben was going to walk our reactive dog and Lauren was going to walk our other 2. However, this was not the case. They were walked twice for less than 10 minutes in the entire 7 days. This was only at around midnight too. Even one of our neighbours contacted us they were getting concerned that they had not seen our dogs. After reminding them that we had a ring doorbell, they began making stupid faces and even covering up the doorbell when going out every single evening. We have had items broken in the house. No regular updates and the house was dirty and stank when we arrived home. Our poor bulldog was so distraught when we got back it took a couple of days for him to come back out of his shell. I did express my concerns to the sitter but no reply and even looked at flights home. I have had to complain to Rover who have also agreed that they did not look after our dogs properly.
I will not be using Rover again.

Rover Sitters are Great, Rover is Unethical
It is important to take into consideration that the sitters themselves on Rover can be wonderful, but Rover itself is a terrible company to work for and work with. If you value a Rover sitter you have found, please leave them your phone number and information OUTSIDE of the Rover sitting app so you can have security knowing you can contact them at any time.
Rover is a marketing/referral corporate company, and can, at any time with their own discretion, delete any sitter profile at anytime without warning or discussion no matter how well they have done, how many reviews, or how much money they make. The majority of positive reviews are about the sitters, not the Rover company itself.
Rover company does minimal work and takes a large percent of all income earned by sitters. I was making $80k per year, working full time, as a sitter, and they were taking $20k from me to cover "website expenses, Rover Guarantee, and customer service support", which in my experience the past 4 years, was absolutely sh-t when I actually needed them. I was dumb not to branch off of Rover at that point because I do not feel they deserved at all the income I was providing for them.
Their "Rover Guarantee" doesn't mean much at all. I have only had to use their emergency services 3-4 times over the past 4 years. The first was for a hotspot under a dog's collar, which they covered the vet expenses over $250 without issue. The second was a client that tried to get me to pay a $500 xray bill that was completely unnecessary for a scratch her dog received while playing. Rover would not cover so she tried to sue me personally, which Rover did nothing about. Rover does not assist in ANY legal issues. I had to hire an attorney outside of the app to handle that conflict.
I also contacted Rover about an emergency of a dog being stuck in a house without my care for almost 24 hours because the garage door stopped working. Rover did absolutely nothing and just told me to wait until the owner eventually answered (they were on the other side of the world and a 13 hour time difference). So the dog had to hold his potty for almost 24 hours and was out of water by the time I was able to get in.
The last conflict was for daycare services in my house and was the first dog fight I had in 4 years of working with pets. Neither dogs are dog aggressive or had issues before. It was a random isolated incident. The dogs have known each other for years and absolutely had no issue, but this fight resulted in one needing staples/stitches. The owner was okay and requested to file a claim to get compensation for the emergency vet costs. The total was under $4k and manageable considering how much income I earned for Rover the past 4 years, it should have been no issues to cover it and let us move on. Because of the incident, Rover completely deleted my sitter profile, sitting at 430+ five star reviews and HUNDREDS of repeat clients and said there was no appeal whatsoever due to "policy" and past instances on my file.
The company is completely unethical and had no remorse over completely deleting 4 years of my work and would not release any of my hard earned referrals. Which is shocking considering I put my trust and faith in Rover to have my back because I work full time from home as a mom. Deleting my profile could have meant we ended up homeless if I wasn't smart and left my personal contact for many of my clients to continue my business outside of the app.
They do have a huge security issue: that they do no background checks on pet owners. Anyone at any time can make a owner profile and target hire specific sitters that they want, which can lead to safety issues as far as being a site for predators to lurk. Many gigs I did not take because of safety issue concerns.
This company is unethical and unfair with their treatment of their Rover sitters, and I absolutely warn anyone that is using their platform to have contracts with your clients, business insurance, download every review you earn, and leave your business card with EVERY client who loves to work and always wants to remain in contact with you. Otherwise, you are completely at mercy of a corporate company that doesn't give two sh-ts about you if a real concern comes up.
Edit in Response to Rover's reply:
I did bring to their attention that the dog that was in my care that was involved in the fight has since been rehomed and not allowed to come back since this incident suggested he was not a good fit for us. He did not provoke the fight, however, and any dog whether it is mine or a client is at risk to have conflict with any dog at any time. There is no safety guarantee working with any dog whatsoever and they should have heavily taken into consideration that I handled the situation appropriately, as this was an isolated case. The owner of the dog that was hurt was extremely understanding and gracious.

Hi Lydia,
Safety and the well being of our community on Rover is one of our most important priorities. So much so that we have a dedicated Trust & Safety department, who's full time job is to action matters in which the safety of animals and people are in jeopardy. Deactivating a Sitter's account is a last resort and will happen if there is a serious safety concern or a history of incidents. In regards to your account it was the latter. As the most recent injured was caused by your own dog it meant that your home was no longer a safe environment.
We understand that you disagree with the closure of your account and we wish you good fortune when it comes to your business.

Sitter backed out after taking dog
I dropped my dog off and 30minutes later the person said the dog had too much energy and they did not want to watch him. I reached out to rover and they said they were looking for alternative solutions. It was late at night so they made no effort to find a new option and asked me to reach out to sitters. I reached out to 10+ with no. During this the sitter then threatened to take my dog to the pound(i have screen shots). My flight was leaving in 6hrs so i had to scramble to find a boarding facility for nearly 3 times the amount of the original rover. Rover has zero interest in reimbursing me for this expense. This app and service is disaster and rover shows zero accountability. DO NOT USE! Update it has now been over 24hrs with no resolution. I am now out over 250 dollars due to having to find a last minute boarding facility. Below is not true, I have sent several email messages to the trust and safety team that reached out to me. I tried calling yesterday to contact my case manager Daniel g. I waited on hold for many minutes to be told that I would received a call back. Almost 20 hrs later with no response.oh my this gets worse and worse after days of no response, rover replies that they choose to do nothing. Won’t refund my extra boarding costs(despite it being their fault) and they are choosing to allow an abusive unreliable sitter who threatens to take dogs the pound to remain on their platform. Btw I also notice my review of the sitter has not been published, hope they are aware of the new review laws as I will be reporting them for this.

My sitter was not enough responsible…
My sitter was not enough responsible with my dogs.
They kept my dogs tied. Even one of my dogs eat her leash. They come home dirty and thirsty. Not enough updates during their stay with sitter.
Rover Customer Service was bad with no professional help. I am not happy with Rover. They did not protect pet owner rights.

Hi Vas, we're sorry to see this was your experience. Meet and greets prior to stays are always the best way to insure that the sitters care and home are both the best fit for your pets and your needs. This is the best time to make sure that update schedule and accommodations also match your requests. If you have any questions, please feel free to give our 24/7 Support Team a call at 1-888-453-7889.

Nightmare. Don’t trust this company.
I never ever leave reviews, let alone negative ones. My dog became very ill 36 hours into his Rover stay. We are a military family who was in the middle of a cross country move but we had no choice but to go get him and take him to the vet for treatment. The vet determined that indeed he either injested something or was put in a situation that was so stressful that he started hemorrhaging. I worked with the claims department for 4 months. It was a nightmare. Slow responses, repeatedly asking for documents I’d already sent, assurances it would be covered….only for the claim to be denied. I was told there was no way to elevate my case from the claims specialist I was working with and that “they don’t really have supervisors like that.” This is a sham of a company. I am sure the network of sitters are good people, but don’t believe their “health guarantee” for a second. They don’t care about your dog. And they don’t care about customer service.
Edited to add….
Thank you for your response. However, it doesn’t address the real problem. I explained to my claims agent and I will be explaining it here once more…. I am less concerned about your policies and not getting money than I am about the general experience I had with your customer service department. You are allowed to make whatever policies and exclusions you’d like and I have no problem with that. Financially, I am in a place where paying this vet bill is not an issue either. However, this process should not have taken four months. I shouldn’t have had to wait weeks for a response from my claims agent (whose name I will leave off). I shouldn’t have been asked multiple times to submit documents I had already submitted. I shouldn’t have been told by the claims agent that you will cover whatever part of my vet bill was not covered by insurance when ultimately, that would not be the case.
THESE are the real issues with your company-not whether or not you actually pay a claim or what your policies are.

Hi Sarah, we appreciate you sharing your feedback and sincerely hope that your pup is in good spirits and had a smooth recovery. As you mentioned a stressful time with moving and your pup being in a new environment, stress colitis is not uncommon for pet's to experience. However, as mentioned in your claim outcome and outlined in our Rover Guarantee terms of service, this is a direct exclusion for coverage of this program. As the Rover Guarantee is not insurance, we're happy to hear that your personal insurance was able to assist with some of your claim, however, we are unable to reimburse for items that are directly excluded from the program based on your veterinarian's documentation provided. If you'd like to learn more about the Rover Guarantee, limitations, eligibility requirements, exclusions and timeframes, please feel free to visit www.rover.com/guarantee. We apologize this was not the outcome you were hoping for, however, remain available to answer any other questions you might have.

It seems that many people on Rover are…
It seems that many people on Rover are in it for the money, charging crazy prices. I've yet to find anyone on the app that I would trust my dogs with, I've been let down so many times. Seems its all about the money to me, people aren't always who they make out to be, so be very careful before parting with your cash and more importantly entrusting a stranger with your pets

This service is a disaster
This service is a disaster. We signed up for three nights and (not her fault), the sitter had an asthma attack so the best she could provide was three visits during the day. She did her best, even took her to Feeders Supply for a bath, but the dog peed in her crate and elsewhere on the floor, and wound up with a UTI, such that we had to pay $500 for the vet, upon return. Our phone was flooded with suggestions for substitutes (which should have been managed by the company) and all of them canceled minutes afterwards because they wouldn't stay the night. I would sincerely like a full refund of the cost, since it cost US a great deal. Sarah Skinner
