Very UNHAPPY w with ROVER
DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE !!! RIP OFF !!!
EDIT RESPONSE TO BELOW: If you Now proclaim that you Don't have insurance, then why was i referred to your insurance dept and informed that in order for the benefit to be offered, the Hurricane had to occur at my house? ~Just ANOTHER example of this company's deceptive practices. Please stop deceiving people! Its not going un-noticed!!!
Very unhappy with admin. This platform touts benefits of "insurance" and advertises confidence in booking with Rover with additional protections . This IS what enticed me to use Rover and I felt confident in initiating with it AFTER Using them , I have found that this is NOT the case at all and have found Rover very disappointing, full of clever and quite frankly deceptive practices in their marketing .. Bottom line Rover is Nothing more than a VERY Expensive Hook Up ready to take your money and keep it .
DON'T USE THEM.
ENCOUNTER:
When I had to cancel my 9 day vacation the day Prior to departure due to a receiving Hurricane Alert at a Catagory 1 making Landfall at my destination (and since built to a 3) I contacted Rover to denote the cancellation request of booking due to the natural disaster at hand at my destination and obviously the reason I reached to find services to cover my absence to begin with . My Pup-sitter was fine with it as she was informed immediately in our dialog But , when I engaged ROVER , they kept 1/2 of my $1450 .00 as they stated their booking "INSURANCE" that I bought into "hook line and sinker" stated that the Hurricane had to be AT MY HOUSE !!! before the booking insurance would be honored and funding returned or able to be used at a later time So basically .... they DON't have a legitimate insurance policy of " useage"coverage worth AT ALL , rather a clever sales pitch that just MIS LEADS and "lulls " the user (you) into basically a false sense of security ... which they the happily use as pitch . They are all very happy to take your money and then clobber you with clever "outs" and slick con snake oil legal BS that leave a user to see the true flimsy "SHELL COMPANY" that they indeed are . What they DO have is heavy monitoring of all communications to ensure their own legal needs are met. financial ease of accepting your funding, but really not much else and don't much care about their customers they're are "servicing " needs at all.
I don't know of anyone who would take the time to request an entire insurance policy to sit to review before booking under the "auspices" of using a "secure " booking company . (It's secure alright.... they secured 1/2 of my $1400 funding due to the refusal to acknowledge an interruption due to a natural disaster that by anyone's average coverage should have been adequately addressed for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. AKA: RIP OFF .
Even Covid has brought us this simple understanding in coverages .
Again in my opinion ,ROVER is not worth using and I encountered heartfelt disappointment in deception used by a company that I believe masquerades itself in nicely designed , attractive and user friendly site to sell. when in fact offers very little if anything to its users
GO TO A REPUTABLE KENNEL and ask for referrals and directives. You will be. Far FAR better off .

Hello LM, thank you for your feedback regarding the cancellation policy. First and foremost, we hope you and your loved ones are safe and that you were not in danger of the hurricane. We are sorry to hear your booking had to be canceled due to this unforeseen disaster and apologize for any inconvenience caused by this event. I understand your frustrations regarding the cancellation policy and want to clarify that Rover does not offer insurance. Half of the booking cost is retained by the sitter per their cancellation policy. Each sitter sets their own cancellation policy, and these policies help to ensure the sitter is able to conduct their business even if the booking falls through on short notice. You can think of it similar to a deposit; you would not get a refund for a deposit if you cancelled within the preset time frame set by the appointment, and in this case the same applies for a booking. As the sitter has booked your pet for the time frame decided upon, they are not able to book additional stays and thus require a cancellation fee to offset the cost of the bookings they would not be able to secure. However, should you speak to your sitter and they wish to waive your cancellation fee they are able to reach out to our 24/7 Customer Support Team at 1-888-453-7889.

Overnight did not go as expected.
Cats were taken care of as in food and water but everything else not so much. The overnight staying was apparently not what I understood it to be. The sitter was only there for morning and evening feeding and then came at midnight to stay the night and left after early morning feeding. My cats were alone all day and that's not what I thought I was signing up for.
The worst thing definitely had to be the shape of my house when I came home. My hallway carpet was stained with where my older cat got sick and cleaner was there and shown but it was left there. Also cat litter everywhere and a cordless vacuum was shown but nothing touched. I wasn't expecting my home to be cleaned but at least in same shape I left it. My guest room mattress also had soda spilled on it and was just left.
I guess I just wasn't expecting to come home from a 6 hour flight and have to spend 2 hours cleaning.
If I did use overnight service again I would definitely be extremely picky. The drop ins I've done numerous times and had no problem but this stay was awful.

This company is a joke
This company is a joke. I paid almost $600 for a pet sitter over 2wks--and even though I reached out to the company IMMEDIATELY upon my return from my vacation that the sitter DID NOT follow-through on ANYTHING we discussed--Rover Support gave me the run around for over a month before finally informing me that they would not be refunding any of my money and that there was nothing they could do about the issue. I provided them with screenshots of my communication with the sitter (all done through the app, as Rover requests), timestamps from my Ring doorbell camera proving that the sitter did NOT stay with my pets to provide any kind of companionship for them at all, AND even reached out immediately. Please do not use this company--they are thieves. Period.

Poor recommendation of Rover pet sitter
I wrote a review, not recommending the Rover dog sitter we recently used, and no one from Rover has contacted me to discuss what happened.
I paid for a dog sitter to sit for our 3 Huskies over 9 days. We let her know that our dogs are used to having someone there and we were looking for that. They are not left alone for more than 4 to 5 hours. Niah came to do a meet up before committing. We asked her if she wanted us to hire a poop scooping service because with 3 Huskies and a small yard, it does need to be done daily or at minimum every 2nd day. Niah indicated she would do it.
We did not hear from Niah or get notifications on how are dogs were doing. We explained to Niah that these dogs are our life (we don't have kids) and how anxious we were about leaving them. She said not to worry, she would keep us informed. 3 days into our vacation we had not heard from her. So I reached out asking. We got one picture. We barely heard from her except 4 days later a text asking if it was normal for our dogs to pee in the house. I told her no, they rarely had accidents as puppies, but if there would be one it would be Sakari especially if she was not being taken out frequently enough. Niah snapped back that she was taking them out every 4 to 5 hours as I had told her. I reminded her that I said we did not leave them alone for more than 4 to 5 hours, but that we frequently took them out to go to the bathroom. That is when I knew things were not as they seemed.
When we got back she texted in the morning asking when we were getting in. I told her we should be home from the airport between 10 and 10:30 AM. She seemed rushed to leave even though our reservation was through 10:30. She texted that all the poop had been cleaned up in the yard, plants watered, vacuum run, and mail picked up. When we arrived home I immediately knew something had not gone well. Our two female dogs were happy to see us but immediately ran back into their crates. They would not come out. It took hours to get them to stay out of the crates and comfortable again. My husband checked the backyard and NONE OF THE POOP OVER 9 DAYS HAD BEEN CLEANED UP (even though I had a text saying so), and the vacuum had not been run. I don't care about those items, even though she was not truthful, but I DO CARE ABOUT MY DOGS TRAUMA.
I checked with our 2 neighbors, who were keeping an eye on the place for us. Both indicated they saw a car parked in front of our house, but never stayed long, and rarely saw the lights on in our house. I then reached out to the HOA to get a report on our gate code to enter our community. Based on the activity of our gate code key, she was rarely at our house! We paid for a service we did not get!
Since this experience, we have purchased a Ring doorbell and 2 cameras for inside our home. IF I EVER USE ROVER AGAIN, at least I will have 'eyes' on what is happening with our babies.
I have all the receipts for what I referenced above. I am more than happy to discuss with anyone at Rover! If they actually care. Gina Miller

This review is about the experience I had with Rover customer support, not the sitter I hired through the Rover platform. I had a serious problem with my pet sitter and needed to get her removed from my house while I was away. Rover offered to call the sitter and promised to call me back after they had spoken to her. They never called me. When I finally called them, they gave no explanation as to why they failed to call me as promised and offered only a partial refund, even in light of the very egregious behavior on the part of my sitter. They would not budge and I had to escalate my request to a supervisor who readily agreed that I was entitled to a full refund. Since then, I have been in contact with Cyndi in the Trust & Safety department, who is evaluating the misconduct of my sitter. She promised to get back to me yesterday when she closed the case. As of this writing, I am still waiting for her communication. Clearly Rover has some work to do on follow through and their failure in this aspect sends the message that they don’t really care about their customers or their customers’ pets. Based on my experience with my sitter and then with the Rover company, I would not recommend Rover to my worst enemy.
