This company has been a horrible experience. In 2021 I was going through two types of cancer. I could not work outside my home and I saw a Rover ad which was very appealing. I have been a pet sitter on and off for 10 years with impeccable references. I thought I had halted my Rover account but that was not the case. When I finally retired this year I decided to contact Rover again to get back on their platform. I was banned with no explanation but they took my $35 for a background check.

I think it’s really poor service that both sitters and owners pay for rover fees yet sitter’s homes are not able to get any funds for damage to property. Very poor service there. Paying rover fees by sitters doesn’t help the sitter in anyway.

Extremely unprotected sitters
I have been sitting dogs in my home for many years, and I recently opened an account with Rover to continue providing this care.
I thought that by using an application like this, the whole process of taking care for the dogs would be more controlled, but I have encountered nothing but problems.
Of the bookings I have accepted lately, with the exception of 1 of them, in all the others the owners lied about their dogs so that the caregivers would accept to take care of them. They do not realize that in the homes of most of the caretakers there are already other dogs, so theirs cannot come to show aggressive behavior, much less cause serious damage to the house.
We have been able to verify that Rover has no responsibility for any damage caused to us, and the owners do not have to pay for any damage caused to our house, when it would be something as simple as at the time of paying the reservation, the owner is obliged to pay an amount as a deposit to be returned at the end of the dog's stay in our house once the caretaker confirms that there has been no serious damage.
I don't think we will continue to use Rover. We caregivers are extremely unprotected and we are also being aggressively chased so that there is no communication with owners outside of the app. If the service to caregivers was very good, none of us would want to work outside of the app, but that is not the case.

Hi again Alejandra. As discussed in the case that was opened for this incident, sitters are independent workers and are considered to be responsible for caring and managing pets during the stays, which is why as per our terms of use, damage to the sitter’s property isn’t covered under the Rover Guarante. However, we do always advise that sitters discuss these incidents with owners. At Rover, we do our best to make sure that owners and sitters communicate as much as possible, which is why we make sure to promote Meet & Greets prior to stays. This is the perfect time to learn about any special needs the dog may have or concerns you or the owner have about the stay, including the amount of dogs sitters will be caring for and any anxious tendencies a pet may have. We kindly ask you to reach out via email [email protected], phone, +44 8082 812524 or chat rover.com/help if you want to discuss other concerns. Best, Corinne.

We hired Elidett M in Texas -this was my first time experience which egan great and ended horribly. Our 16 lb Shih Tzu was scratched on his back in multiple areas while under her care the 4th day of his stay. She admitted to accepting another dog that was small but aggressive. On the 5th day/LAST DAY my pickup time for my dog changed making it about a 2 hour delay due to flight changes. While on my way to her house she texted saying she needed to leave for an appointment and she has already taken my dog to a local shelter for pickup--instructed by Rover! After dodging my calls and refusing to give the address to where she took my dog, we finally found him!!! He was shaking, anxious, licking his paws and panting. Lastly, she would not return my dog's items until I called the police for an escort in which I received his bed, toys, blanket etc. What a mess, a bad experience to say the least. She does not need to be on anybody's roster to animal sit, people sit or plant sit. This lady never apologized, she lied to the people at the shelter saying she found a dog at a store parking lot. ROVER needs to do better on who they choose to work for their company. I need more than just the reps apologizing, it seems like they will only step in if you have a vet bill for injuries.

Insulting and Waste of Time
I applied as a dog-walker, set up my account, was given a message saying I was done and needed to wait for my profile to be reviewed, came back at the specified date, and told I apparently had not finished setting up the profile and needed to do that and wait another several weeks. Very frustrating. Contacted customer service about finishing account (because they were very unclear about what I needed to do for that) and person I emailed with refused to answer my questions, misrepresented what I was saying, provided irrelevant copy and pasted information, and seemed to be taking out their bad day on me. I asked to be transferred to another agent and never was. Complete waste of time.

I had to shorten my reservation from…
I had to shorten my reservation from the 23-29, to the 23-24. I agreed to pay full price to the dogsitter, because she is lovely and we trust her. But rover, only gave back $42. The company has not remibursed me, and did not respond kindly to any of my messages. I felt robbed and the company was unsympathetic to my sickness that caused me to shorten my trip. I would like a call from a representative from Rover to assess my terrible experience with this companyl

Hello Anthony. Thank you for sharing your feedback, and we are sorry to hear about your experience. As the sitters on our site are their own small business owners, the funds they earn for services booked are theirs, not Rover's. Even though the funds are processed through the Rover site, the funds are paid to the sitter directly by the pet owners. As such, Rover cannot decide what to do with those funds without sitter input. If you haven't reached out to your sitter yet to share your concerns and ask for a refund, please do so via Rover messaging. If your sitter okays a refund, they can contact us at 888-453-7889 and we’ll handle the rest. Our support team is available 24/7 to help.
