Terrible greedy company who will provide nothing for users or sitters
Terrible.company
Have upped their prices and don't provide insurance for sitters. They now take 15% from sitters and service users. This used to be 3%!!
The support is awful. They're barely able to type or comprehend anything even remotely intelligent using stock answers. Don't rely on them at all. Please- don't think they will support a client or sitter. They just want the money.
They took over Cat in a Flat and it's been a disaster. The transition meant no access for weeks and awful response times and poor resolution or none at all!
They're taking more fees and not providing insurance like CIAF did.
Their star sitter program is misleading and favours dog sitters.
The parameters for Cat sitters star status are very restrictive. If you miss a single message response within the 24hr period they'll take the star sitter status from you and it will take MONTHS to get back if you ever do get it back.
Just avoid them. Look for independent sitters with insurance for better rates and less of a faff from thr worst platform for users anyone has ever seen. Poor show.
I was both a service user and sitter so this is 100% my experience from both sides.

Hi Steven, thank you for sharing your experience from both sides of the platform. We’re sorry the Cat in a Flat transition and support you’ve received have been frustrating. Rover’s fees help support secure payments, 24/7 support, Trust and Safety coverage, platform maintenance, and the Rover Guarantee. We also appreciate your feedback on the Star Sitter program and transition experience and will make sure it’s shared with the appropriate teams. If there are unresolved issues we can revisit, our Support team remains available to help. -Brittney

During an active animal emergency
During an active animal emergency, I contacted Rover Trust & Safety and specifically asked them to remain on the line while I worked to recover the animal. They ended the call anyway. I had to call back, and on the occasions I was able to reach someone, the support was largely unhelpful.
Fortunately, the animal was recovered safely, but Rover’s emergency response left me with very little confidence in the safety infrastructure they advertise.
Also worth knowing, whether you’re an owner or sitter: the Rover Guarantee is not insurance. After reading the Terms closely, my view is that it functions largely as a limited reimbursement program while substantial liability and risk remain with the owner and sitter.
Read the fine print before assuming Rover is protecting you when something goes wrong.

Hi David, we’re glad to hear the animal was recovered safely, but we’re sorry the support you received during such a stressful situation fell short of expectations. Our Trust and Safety team is available 24/7 for emergencies, and we take feedback about that experience seriously. You’re also correct that the Rover Guarantee is not insurance; it’s designed to provide reimbursement for certain eligible expenses when something goes wrong during a booking. We appreciate you sharing your experience and encourage anyone with questions about coverage to review the Guarantee terms or contact us at (888) 727-1140. -Brittney

Don’t use Rover if you don’t have to and be strict with your sitter meeting your animal esp one with special needs.
The sitter I met seemed like a nice lady, I mentioned multiple times my Great Dane is special and just a little more anxious and different than other dogs. I insisted on more than one meet and greet. Didn’t happen. So my week vacation came up. The day I left she couldn’t get my dog to go out for almost 13-14 hours as my flight was at 5am. I almost had to fly home. Until eventually she got her to go out and get her harness on.
All the communication as I read it was subpar and the more I read it the more it made me angry. I stated things multiple times and barely got replies. Then my dog got sick one day and had diarrhea and puking all over my apartment. Not her fault per say these things happen. I apologized and she offered to clean the rug. I said thank you, and please wash my stuff in the clean and clear I have… never got a response on what she cleaned my stuff in or my carpet. Anyways after the rug was cleaned and removed outside my dog threw up more… she suggested keeping her in my living room but I mentioned that wouldn’t be too great as the AC is in my room and the air needs to circulate as I am on the 2nd floor…. Still barely a response.
I almost again tried to fly home early but it was as an Outrageous amount of money. Then the day of my second flight gets delayed by 5 1/2 hours. As I’m trying to communicate and she is communicating with me at the bare minimum….
I get home around 11pm and I found dried vomit and what I assume was diarrhea and a dirty floor in general. My carpet thrown all crumpled up into a corner of my living room…. The cleaning was at a bare minimum.. I found my dog in my hot ass living room looking miserable on the couch in a stinky room with only a little fan for air flow. I won’t go into too much detail now but, when I contacted him Rover that night explaining this and wanting a refund for these services because this was just awful I have yet to receive a serious response from anyone. I keep getting the same emails and saying to talk to the sitter for a refund…. Excuse me?? You think the person who left my stuff in such a state would agree to a refund???? No. I will never be using rover again and if I do … I am
Going to be absolutely strict. This was a terrible situation. Please be careful on who you have watch your dogs / animals.

Rover Failed Us After Michele Malkah Cancelled Our Confirmed Booking at the Last Minute
I am extremely disappointed with both Rover and the way a sitter's serious last-minute cancellation was handled. I booked the same sitter, Michele Malkah (Michele M.), who is based in Maryland, through Rover months in advance for two separate stays in May 2026. She came to our home beforehand, met my husband and me, and met our dog, who is completely blind and requires consistent supervision and stable care. Nothing about our household or our dog's needs was hidden from her. The day before we were scheduled to leave for our son’s out-of-state college graduation, we were finalizing arrangements. Because of unexpected family circumstances and a last-minute change involving our younger son who is in high school, I informed the sitter that he might need to briefly enter the home after school while waiting to be picked up. I proactively asked whether she was comfortable with this and even offered alternatives so he would not have to enter the home. She initially responded in writing that she was fine with him coming inside temporarily and that she would feel strange making him stand outside. Shortly afterward, however, she reversed her decision and canceled both of our bookings—less than 24 hours before our departure! She stated that there were “liability and legal issues,” that she had never met my son, and that it was “not ok” to bring up this information at the last minute. I immediately tried to resolve her concerns. I explained that my son could remain outside or wait at school. None of those options changed her decision. The timing was particularly concerning because earlier that same day, she had told me that her daughter had unexpectedly asked her to pet-sit her dog during the time she was supposed to sit for us. I don't know if this is why she ultimately made her decision, but the sequence of events was extremely troubling. The consequences were significant. We were unable to find comparable overnight care on such short notice, replacement care ultimately cost more than $700, and we had to rely on emergency drop-in arrangements instead. We also incurred approximately $125 in non-refundable home preparation and cleaning expenses. Most importantly, our dog experienced significant distress and behavioral changes during the disruption. He became depressed. She turned two joyous occasions a college graduation and a family reunion into very stressful situations for us. What has been almost as disappointing as the cancellation itself is Rover’s response. I contacted Rover multiple times and spoke with both customer support and the Trust & Safety team. I was told the matter would be escalated, but I never received the promised follow-up or meaningful resolution. Rover ultimately offered a $70 non-refundable platform credit, which did not come close to addressing the actual costs and disruption caused by the cancellation. I am also deeply concerned about the lack of transparency for future customers. Rover does not provide consumers with a meaningful way to leave a factual review when a sitter cancels before providing the service. The sitter remains publicly listed as a "Star Sitter" with numerous five-star reviews, while prospective customers have no meaningful context for this confirmed booking, the extremely short notice of the cancellation, or the circumstances surrounding it. Rover needs stronger protections for customers when sitters cancel confirmed bookings at the last minute, particularly when vulnerable or special-needs animals are involved. Customers should also be able to provide factual, contextual reviews when a sitter cancels before providing the service. I do not recommend using Rover, as there is no customer protection, and I recommend staying far away from Michele Malkah. She is completely unreliable, and she lacks empathy and compassion.

Sitter abandoned & Rover not responding
Part of why you pay sitters over Rover and pay the insane service fee to them is the “Rover Guarantee.” We never needed to use it in the past until our latest (and now last) booking. Our pet sitter messaged us saying she needed to leave our dog the next morning at 10.30 when she was supposed to leave at 19.30, and that we need to find someone to “check in” on him during that time. It is illegal to leave a dog alone in Sweden for more than 6 hours. We rang up friends and old sitters frantically on our last night of vacation instead of enjoying it and finally got a past sitter to watch him at the last minute for a premium. I reported this to Rover via chat with detailed info and they just asked me the same questions “to confirm” the details over and over. Then they said they’ll need to respond to me via email. They take multiple days to respond and each email is just asking the same questions “to confirm.” I have then consolidated every repeated question and answered them all in one mail and asked them to please push this process forward and have not heard from them in weeks. There is NO Rover guarantee.

Horrible First Experience
My sitter was very unprofessional, verbally offensive, harassing, and intimidating! Our sitter made no effort to connect with my dog, who was barking at her a lot. Our dog does not bark at people that much, but with her, he didn't like her. Red flag! She wore her LARGE sunglasses in the house, which alarmed him, and she turned on a big light in the family room and left it on for 4 days until I told her to turn it off. We have Ring cameras in our home. She sent me a text telling me she played Lynx sounds to intimidate my small dog, Ozzy, from barking. It only caused him more anxiety! What made things worse is that on the last day she didn't give them any water. They were without water for 24 hours! We live in an area where the temperatures reach 100 degrees daily. We are lucky we got home when we did.
She didn't follow the printed directions. When we asked her about some of the things we could see, that was when she became verbally abusive.
I have submitted all of the documentation, screenshots, and videos, and nothing has been resolved with Rover.
I would definitely not use them again! Protect your pets, because Rover only cares about their sitters who try to leave their website and be hired personally.
