I just spent about 3 hours I'll never get back trying to arrange a house sitter for my two dogs. After telling Rover what and when I needed someone, they sent a list of "candidates". After going back and forth with "Meg", feeling like I was at a job interview, she messaged me to first explain the dates wouldn't work. I told her the dates to begin with, she could have saved me hours by simply telling me that to begin with!! But no, she had to get all the details, including needing to know all about my house (nice), my dogs intimate details (ok) and their health status. As I told her, they have zero medical issues. They are about the easiest dogs to care for you could hope for. But besides the dates, she wasn't prepared to deal with my dogs "issues".....they have no issues!! I can only assume she was looking for a nice house with a good TV and dogs that took care of themselves so she wouldn't have to get off her ass!!
Also, the rates quoted were totally messed up. The total was fine, but the daily fee for 2 dogs was 1/2 the fee for my 1 cat that requires ZERO care!
Lastly, every single review for every pet sitter was 5 Stars... EVERY SINGLE ONE. Some had as many as 302 reviews with 100% 5 Stars. Not 4.5, 4.8, 4.9...5.0! What a total crock. Don't trust these people to be honest in anything they do!

Waste of time. Unreliable Service.
Very short notice cancellation by our dog sitter, who we would have appreciated more honesty from, as she showed no signs of not wanting to take care of our dog during our meet and greet. She even discussed exchanging health documents towards the end of our meeting, but then she cancelled next day very unexpectedly. Now, Rover says we need to wait 5-10 days for a refund.
People using this service have little to no experience in dog care and they are extremely unprofessional. We had a meet and greet with a few people and one said that they had looked after a dog once, when their profile actually said they had years of experience in dog care. Another cancelled on us because apparently they were concerned our dog would chew on things, knowing he was a 10 month old puppy. She had also expressly stated on her profile she was aware of chewing and chocking dangers in dogs from objects laying around the house and yet she cancels because of this. What an absolute waste of time! Now we're at risk of not finding a suitable place for our dog to stay before we can go on holiday. To make matters worse, we had already made a payment and Rover said we need to wait 5-10 working days for our refund following the cancellation. Won't be using Rover ever again!

WARNING! Rover does NOT "provide loving…
This company does NOT "provide loving care for your pet"! When presented with VIDEO PROOF of a Rover worker leaving the house after only 20 minutes and leaving the two dogs alone in a crate for the next 24 hours, he is still popping up as "recommended"!! DO NOT USE ROVER!!

If you think you can depend on Rover, you're wrong
If you’re someone who has to live each day trying to work while living with a disability and wants to work for Rover, I hope my story can convince you otherwise. I am a 32-year-old epileptic woman who was completely healthy until I began having seizures at the age of 22 years old. I was going to nursing school when my seizures started and I had to reevaluate my entire life plan. For six years, I tried every cocktail of antiseizure medications you can think of until I finally took the leap and agreed to let them cut into my brain. It was the scariest decision I’ve ever had to make, but I knew it was a chance at a life without seizures which meant I could work and live just like everyone else, the only thing I had wanted since epilepsy became part of my life. I’m claiming that diagnosis now even though it will undoubtedly color, consciously or subconsciously, how people view me and what I’m capable of. However, despite all of that, my story is a relevant one, even if Rover does not think it is. They failed to support me and my rights while working for them. For some background: A woman messaged me last minute because her original sitter plans fell through and asked if I could find a way to fit her dog into my hectic schedule. Because this is my full-time job, I schedule my jobs back to back and adding her animal in wasn’t easy, but it was something I was willing to do because she needed help. Upon returning from walking her dog in temperatures over 100°, I asked her if I could have some water. She asked me why I didn’t have any on me. I informed her that I had some earlier but I had already gone through it. I apologized for the inconvenience and only then upon seeing her displeasure did I explain that I am on some medication which can make me extra susceptible to the heat so I try to stay hydrated. While she wasn’t kind or pleasant, that was neither here nor there. I’m someone who had a job to do and that’s what I did. As soon as I got home, I was notified about this woman’s review. I saw that it clearly stated my medical condition that I disclosed to her in confidence and because of my condition, I should not be hired. I reached out to Rover devastated and in tears. I had to explain to them that people with disabilities have rights and had to basically define what discrimination against people with disabilities meant. This woman’s disclosure was a betrayal and a hurtful one that could have affected my livelihood - something that people without a disability don’t need to worry about very often. Rover originally wanted to do nothing but once I explained how what she did was illegal, they begrudgingly reached out to her to take out the singular line about my medical condition but she kept the rest of her comment and profile (and the ability to be hostile and discriminate against other Rover workers) because “everyone has the right to their opinion.” It is one thing to write a review and to say that you view my work as unsatisfactory, but once you cross the line that is disclosing my private medical condition and follow that up by saying that because of that I should not be hired, maybe you should lose the right to post on that particular platform? Every disabled person who has the will, determination, and blessing of being able to work and find ways to be part of our communities already has the cards stacked against them. We are already fighting the fight that is being viewed as equally important and equally capable as our healthy counterparts every day. If you decide to work for Rover, you may as well be saying that you don’t deserve the support every human being, disabled or not, deserves from their employer when someone breaks the law. Do not let your employer tell you that standing by you and your civil liberties is less important than one person‘s ability to leave a review. I’m not someone who thinks I can change the world, but I am someone who thought Rover was a respectable company that would be perfect for someone who’s healthy but living with a medical condition. It afforded me the opportunity to make my own schedule, allowing me to keep up with my very important medication schedule so I can stay healthy and continue work. Had I known this is what Rover stands for (or as it turns out, doesn’t stand for), I certainly would have made a different choice. Don’t make the same mistake I did. Find another company to work for.

Terrible…Less than one star
Very short notice cancellation by the dog sitter. She rearranged another appointment for me for the following week but didn’t show up. Very inconvenient and disappointing as we had also booked months ago for our holiday next month. We’d lost confidence therefore cancelled but haven’t been able to find anyone at such short notice. Customer services were extremely understanding and swiftly issued a refund and a voucher towards future booking.

Rover takes too much for doing nothing.
Rover takes too much from both the boarders and the pet owners. 20% of our earnings is ridiculous!

Rover let a sitter leave my dog for 19 hours
The rover I booked did not care for my dog and left her for 19 hours. She gave my dog the wrong medications, left chocolate muffins that my dog ate, left trash all over the floor, left dirty underwear/shoe prints on velvet chairs we had bought for our wedding, etc. When I reported her to Rover (with picture/video proof) to get a refund, it took them nearly a week to say they couldn’t do anything and I had to get a refund through the “dog sitter.” I will never use Rover again. Everything about the experience (from the sitter to their customer service) was a nightmare.
