Hideous experience. Booked a sitter to look after my cats whilst on vacation. Came home to them using their bed and toy basket as a litter box. Meds not administered. Had to threaten police action to get my keys back from the sitter. WARNING ⚠️ They don’t do police checks on the people on their platform!!! Customer services took almost 24hrs to get back to me, but they were excellent once you found a human to speak with. Never letting a stranger into my home again.

I used Rover as I wanted to secure a booking with a reliable and vetted pet boarder for our family holiday. We looked 6 months in advance, had a meet and greet and even a trial night to make sure our dog was happy with the boarder and also that the boarder was happy with our dog. We were very happy with who we had found and comfortable that our dog would be happy so that we could relax. However!......2 weeks before our holiday our sitter got in touch with us and said "do you mind if I look after another dog at the same time?" I said that I wanted our pet to be on its own as that's what we had agreed. (I had searched hard for "no pets/no kids"). The sitter then told me that her circumstances had changed, she'd had to put her prices up and that if she couldn't have 2 dogs together, she'd have to cancel our booking - which she did immediately.... leaving us with no boarder and no availability anywhere else as it was done at such short notice and in the summer period. For all I've got a full refund - it doesn't get away from the fact that I have no dog boarder and am struggling to find any boarders or kennels to put her in. The lady we went with had put her price up by more than £10 per night. She therefore felt that by cancelling our 12 nights, she could get other bookings and more money. I'm absolutely fuming that I'm left in this position. I wouldn't recommend Rover to anyone as there isn't any real insurance with it. All I got from Rover was that there were lots of other boarders available on their site that I could look at. Thats fine - if I'm wanting to pay way over the odds and in an environment which doesn't fit my criteria. NO THANK YOU!

Someone most likely stole my keys and you refused to assist me, regardless of all your promises of safety.

I booked a sitter weeks in advance who cancelled 4 days prior to my leave. I booked a new sitter who never showed up. No one was with my dogs Friday to Saturday and I booked a stay at my home sitter! I had spent 10+ hours on Saturday on and off the phone with rover trying to get someone to check in my dogs who had been alone for over 24 hours!!!

Sitter had good reviews on Rover and yet she was not good. Probably had 40 emails made up to create fake reviews. My dog was locked outside in the heat while this non dog sitter went to a picnic which she never mentioned. She wanted to eat hot dogs and get paid instead of watching a dog. Then she says.."she hides a lot." Uh...no she doesn't...ever! You're just scary.. Upon pick up...THEY COULDN'T FIND MY DOG. She came in from outside all low and timid looking. And that isn't how she responds ever to my arrival. My dog was outsids for up to 3+hours on a hot day. Upon reporting to Rover...they say..."They are private business owners." They did nothing. Despite a police report was made. Apologies don't fix animal cruelty or derelict action. Rover is possibly as dangerous as a dating site. Call a church to see if they have responsible people instead.

Rover allows the absolute worst sitters on there who have zero experience w certain breeds

I absolutely loved our pet sitter, but was unable to leave a written review within the allowed 21 day time period. I communicated my concern with the Rover support team member, but they said there was no way to fix the review for the sitter. As a first time user, I had opened the spot to do a review, but then was interrupted and unable to complete the review at that time. I closed the app without saving anything. When I went in later to leave the review, it stated I had already done one. Our pet sitter deserved an excellent review and I’m disappointed that I was unable to give her one. If she didn’t live 18 hours away, and I could use her all the time, I would have another opportunity to leave a review. I feel that this is something that needs to be corrected in the app & on the website. If in DC, choose Verlencia! My girl loved her & I wish I could have left the amazing review that I wanted to on her profile!

I’m starting to wonder if the people reaching out to me for dog boarding are actually real people? One messaged the day before they wanted boarding so no time to even meet the dog!!! A couple have been asking about boarding for dogs with specific needs, which have ranged from non-neutered dogs to dogs with disabilities so would need more time and care than your average dog. When I message back asking for a meet and greet, as advised before accepting the request, I’m being blanked!!! Surely the dog owners want to meet me first to make sure everyone is happy including the dog most importantly! It just feels a bit odd that nothing is materialising and some of the requests feel like a test to see how I respond?! Could it be the dreaded AI!!!
